Because those days people mostly were interested in Roland and Oberheim-like, analog synths that you can tweak the sliders etc. Which are still favorable these days 🙂
Additive synthesis by its very definition can make *any sound*. As in any sound that has every happened or will ever happen. The only limit is bandwidth/amount of sines available.
An underrated synth that sounds lovely.
I used to have one and its a quite underrated machine that not many really understood back in the day
