Hi Sister Sunshine TV - from a different perspective that is outside of the Protestant fronema (mindset). The Church historically hasn’t permitted women into the priesthood. The theology behind that is complex. But in a reader’s digest answer - because when the priest is fully vested, he becomes the icon of Christ to the laity. Because Christ God was incarnated as a man, and resurrected and ascended as a man - and is present during the Divine Liturgy ‘consubstantial’ … the Church maintains a strict line. Also, no women are permitted beyond the solea and into the Sanctuary (the area behind the iconostasis where the holy table is positioned). Only males can serve as acolytes. There are women in religious life vocations - who serve the Body as nuns. I have only met two nuns to date. And that was outside of the Divine Liturgy so I don’t know a lot about monastics. One of my favorite orthodox scholars is a woman, Dr Jeanie Constantinou. She can certainly hold her own - and is very informative. But this is how it has always been… and the Orthodox Church rarely changes… if at all. Trust you are well. Lovingly, Lee.
The Ancient and Unbroken Church set a pattern for entry into the ordination of the priesthood based on what is mentioned in the Pauline Epistles. It remains steadfastly in place. Firstly, as controversial as this is in Modernity - it remains open only to men. The beginning steps towards the priesthood is the ‘Reader’. This man can be appointed by his local priest to serve unofficially in this capacity. Should he desire to progress with his priest’s recommendation, he will present himself before the Archbishop and will be confirmed by the Church. He is tonsured by the bishop. The Reader’s role is very important to the lifecycle of the Church. He must learn to read the word in ‘simple chant’. He leads the people in their prayers during Orthos / Matins. He serves behind the iconostasis as an acolyte, learning the flow of the Divine Liturgy. He grows in wisdom and in knowledge of the Scriptures. He also reads the Old Testament in the Week Days to the faithful gathered…. And the readings for Vesperal prayers on Saturday evening. He reads the Epistles on Sunday. There are official training centers called Seminaries that prepare those who are called to share in the ministry of Christ. The man must be married before entering into the Diaconate, or he must remain celibate throughout his life. He then presents himself again before the Archbishop, and experiences a special rite where he begins his public ministry. He is confirmed by the Church with the calling out of ‘AXIOS’ -- and unless there is that calling out of ‘AXIOS’ he is refrained from this entry level ordination. From there he must progress a minimum of five years before he can become a priest - again presenting himself to the Archbishop and undergo a specific rite - and confirmed by the Church with cheers of ‘AXIOS’. It takes approximately 12 years from tonsured reader - to - Priest through the Diaconate. Only the ordained priest can consecrate the Gifts, serve in the Mystery of Confession, and publicly read the Gospels in the Divine Liturgy. The Church confirms the man into public ministry. The whole while - the laity serve within their parish and their communities. And, of course there is ministry specifically for women to serve in ‘religious life’. However, I am not knowledgeable enough to write about it - but there are certainly monastics who faithfully serve the Body comprised of monks an nuns. This structure served the Church well for well over a thousand years before Rome began innovating the Faith in the West, leading up to the further fracturing that occurred in the Reformation - where every wind of doctrine resurfaced and blew upon the Protestant Stew - adding unique ‘flavorings’ not found in the Ancient and Unbroken Church. Since then, every sectarian group that have formed their own context towards religious life and organizational norms apart from Orthodoxy - have created their own path towards qualifying their ministers. The UPCI, the SBC, the AOG, the UMC, LDS, SDA, and the list goes on and on - have determined their own traditions of qualifying their people towards administrations in their corporate groups. The UPCI Culture historically has frowned upon collegiate education within the University system with much fear. Oftentimes, the people have misguided young folks that they’re called into ‘ministry’ (context is ‘preaching’ or pulpit ministry). The standing joke back in the day that Bible College was really ‘Bridal College’ - where young people better have that ‘ring by spring’ of their first year. Of course, this is a broad brush I am using here… not all folks in the UPCI are uneducated, or had their degrees conferred by Bible Colleges. But, I would assert that God calls people in their humanity to serve all mankind in various disciplines - of medicine, of law, of humanities, of theology, of sciences, of psychology, of philosophies, of mathematics, etc. - and yet, these folks glorify God with their good deeds working outside of the ‘Church’ context. Without a doubt, God calls men into his priesthood. Some folks may be called to serve the Body in monastic communities. While others may be called to serve God as teachers, doctors - mechanical and electrical engineers… farmers, truck drivers, tradesmen - etc. And even though they are not called directly into the priesthood, they walk in the anointing God has placed upon them - in their vocation. Of course this is a different perspective of what Dr. Bernard presenting. All are called to the ‘priesthood of believers’ - but not everyone is called or is qualified to serve in leadership within an organization. Some folks within the UPCI have relied upon their ‘Pentecostal Pedigree’ to advance themselves and their financial gains within the organization. It is never about ‘you’ and ‘your’ ministry…. The Theology of Ordination, as it was practiced in the Ancients and remains steadfastly in place - a man is invited by Christ God to share in His ministry - and God’s salvific plan of Reconciliation of the cosmos.
Scripturally those that were called in the Bible were conferred as called by God Himself without any organisational processes. God trains them up in his way without certificates. Not that God may not use certificates though it is not actually scriptural and not needing them is scriptural. It is about the called person following God's Will for themselves and showing themselves before God and men in ministry as approved by what they do and conduct.

From a different point of view. Please don't put too much pressure on a young person to to get their Minister's License. Especially before they're ready. I personally have seen this happen and the results were devastating.
You are 100 percent correct in your recommendation here based on your observations. I also witnessed this back in the day when I walked among the Oneness Pentecostals Camp - where a young man is sent off to youth camp, has an incredible God moment, and upon returning to his normal life everyone begins to ‘speak a word’ over the young man…. And that misapplied pressure interferes with God’s true calling on that young man’s life. Of course, God calls young ladies too into various works within His Church… but NOT everyone is called into the pulpit ministry… some are called to serve mankind apart from the Church - yet through their Faith and Obedience in Christ Jesus - in various vocations that benefit folks.
Its so sad to see young people being pressured to follow in their parents or grandparents footsteps in the ministry. If these kids do not have a divine call from God Almighty please do not manipulate and try to make these young people into something YOU desire for them. I see a lot of nepotism and politics in our churches. So sad.

@@realmccoy124 Well said sir.
There seems to be an epidemic of this mentality in the UPC.
Its so sad to see young people being pressured to follow in their parents or grandparents footsteps in the ministry. If these kids do not have a divine call from God Almighty please do not manipulate and try to make these young people into something YOU desire for them. I see a lot of nepotism and politics in our churches. So sad.

You need it so much ❤❤
I know for a fact that I wont ever get my license through UPCI or ALJC. Its because my wife wears alittle bit of jewlrey, even though she is filled with Holy Ghost and baptized in Jesus name. Because we know how frowned up that is to many people.
I for one am ok with that
