What I like about this footage is that unlike others where they just show surfers riding the waves again and again, here, you get an aerial overview of the lineup with the surfers. As a result you get a much clearer sense of how huge these waves are. The post storm, calm swell conditions is an extra reality check bonus.
Thats killer sets . That clean up wave half mile off ! Like no sound makes me hear all those real wave sound in my head . If you ever parked got out the car. Hear the break first from behind the dunes . You kniw it going off !!
Awesome to see drones providing superior footage to what would have required an 3xpensive film crew and a helicopter ony a few years ago. Only wish it could record the audio as well
I was one of the four boats out and shuttled a pro, big-wave surfer out. Arrived just after that Whaler flipped. The sets were huge but chunky, not clean and seemingly hard to ride.
Looks like those first two waves were paddle-ins? Very Nice on a massive, mean, and raw Mavericks day! That boat capsizing at about 8:00 is scary carnage...thankfully everybody okay!
Maverick was rocking that day. We were bangin the rudimentaries but were unable to find the right numbers. Still floating in the ocean hangin for the elevator rides and tempting the sharks is rad enough for me. Even beats a pow day on the slopes. Keep on ridin the H20 in all its forms peeps and bro-hammies.
Great amazing video thanks! That huge outside breaker around 3:35 or so was so far outside peak. And that small boat getting racked around 8:00 so gnarly!
Glad you mentioned to look for those two waves. I was kind of bummed after 7 or so minutes watching... but great shots of beautiful waves. Thank God for drones!
I thought everyone went out on swells like this at Mavericks? Where is everyone? Is this just too heavy conditions for a lot of the big wave guys? (A non surfer asking) have so much respect for this sport and life style
A lot of amazing surfers caught amazing waves this day. For the drone there was only a few chances to fly because so much precipitation in the air. This is just a few aerials from the day. Follow Powerlines Productions for all the waves caught that day. Cheers !
There ARE NO 100' waves! Maverick is normally no more than 20-30' max. Waves often get reported way out of proportion to what they really are, because they can look fearsome! The highest wave in the world was reported at 62+ feet, although there are "tales" of one that was 1720', but that was a tsunami wave in Alaska and it washed water up on land for about 1720' the wave itself was not nearly that high. There has never been a 100' wave except in the minds of very frightened people!
this was just a big dam day all around,,,the steam rollers that came by had everyone of those guys paddle their asses off and still get nabed ,,so hard to paddle in on this day..but give these guys credit for being out and giving it a shot.
Why aren't they grabbing the bow line on the over-turned boat with one of the jet skis and hauling it out to an area before the waves are breaking?? Then at least with two or three jetskis they might be able to flip it back over. Then tow it in downshore for a salvage(?)
If you'd allow I'd really love the opportunity to add music to this video. Nothing serious or major just watching this and I have this beautiful soundtrack going through my head. it's my inner DJ. :)
Amazing that Jeff Clark and friends surfed Mavericks for decades without rescue skis and without the entourage of boats and no one died until Mark Foo in 1994.
@@onefodderunit You try to ride a Maverick, I'd like to see you try Believe me the water is so deep that you would never see a shark coming from beneath you, sharks don't see humans as prey. You are most likely to be killed by a mosquito dude, or a dog.
this is what we want to see! Raw big wave footage, not the short edited commercial version with that annoying and redundant intro . Good job and thanks for sharing!
Maybe I missed it, but I watched this whole clip and I didnt see anyone actually surf one of these beautiful waves. Nobody even got a tow from the jetskis out there.
the first two waves have guys on them . it was either raining or foggy all day I only got two flights in. ION Banner caught huge waves in the morning that I did not capture and Lucas Chumbo and Peter Mel and Ben Andrews all got waves that day so did Ian Wallace.
Amazing Waves man!! my question is.. isnt that a NFZ? I tried to launch my Drone from the Beach near the break and I couldnt even take off! Did you start from far away and fly into where the break is at? again amazing footage!
yes, but where were all the locals, usually there are like 100 people. Lucky for the guys out there...they already have the problem of dodging bomb sets and making drops to a safe channel, so less people = less flying boards. :)
Hi! I hope to go to places known for surfing some day just to watch. I was wondering... why is it that no one is catching a wave? Is it because the velocity of the waves is so great they can't judge well enough in advance of the wave when to start paddling to catch one, or what?
@@garman1966 Mavericks are loaded with power, its extremely difficult just to paddle into one, even with the right techniques its hard, they can be unforgiving waves.

Amen.....how many good waves went unridden because of the current fad for paddle surfing. tow surfers would have been ripping that session up on boards designed to surf rather than paddle.
Biggest waste of my time in a while. Ten minutes to not see a single wave. And not like there were not any surfers. Come one! Good footage, but disliked.
Man the guy in the boat was so tired of watching so many empty sets he must have tried to surf his boat @ 7:06 , turtle rolling in a boat doesn't help get you past the break >_
i wouldnt say baby brother mavricks waves can get very very big in the perfect conditions. you ask any pro big wave surfer they all say Mavricks is the scariest place on earth.
Hey, it is all an illusion.. the only reason why 10 guys are out is because it so offshore.. surfing this place offshore is impossible.. so no locals are out. and a handful of guys who want to say that they paddled out during a huge Mavs swell just for their own ego is warranted..
the first two waves have guys on them . it was either raining or foggy all day I only got two flights in. ION Banner caught huge waves in the morning that I did not capture and Lucas Chumbo and Peter Mel and Ben Andrews all got waves that day so did Ian Wallace.
I did notice that the first minute or two had the ONLY actual surfing. Everything else was either guys trying to avoid waves or guys weakly paddling in, then giving up. Did I miss anything there?
No edits for "excitement", no stupid music overlay, - perfect. That's what we want to see. thanks for respecting the purity of raw footage
I really like how the raw footage shows how skilled you need to be to position yourself, judge the break and survive under such extreme conditions.

Fantastic, silence is deafening watching this which gives it such a great feel. Keep them silently coming . Well done.
I really liked having the journey out. So often - all the time - we just see the huge wave but no context. This was great.
Thanks man, heavy, crazy, respects out to the injured and speedy recovery to any bang up...hope everyone was ok.
realistic view of the waves. I felt like I was out there. Remarkable footage. Look forward to seeing more down the road. Thanks

It's crazy. I was at that same beach a week later and the waves were tiny. I actually asked around to see if I was at the right beach and whatnot.
not much surfing going on that day. Tremendous work thanks

It's 4′33″ by John Cage.

They're floating around like whale watchers, not paddling for waves. The only fear factor for them is shark.

white water from the wave before, it shows where the reef is
