One thing a lot of boats could really make use of is to be able to run the engine and simply use it as a generator. (either by having it drive a small mains generator, or just use the 12-24 volt alternator to drive an inverter for mains power.) After all, even a fairly small motor could produce enough power to run a microwave or electric cooker in general, or other more power hungry equipment with ease. (Even a pathetic 10 hp is after all 7 kw of power, that can get one rather far in terms of electric appliances.) Adding solar panels would have their own advantages, and for a sailboat, it could provide quite the advantage especially if combined with some regen on an electric motor. Then the only thing to worry about is how much water and food one can bring.
They can get away with it because they have a small engine. Just remember, this boat will only go about 8 knots max speed under engine power. It will be slightly faster under sails, and in the right conditions though.
Wonderful tour, the 458 is a great boat (though I wish it came as a two-cabin layout with an aft-cabin master). I'm currently trying to convince the wife to consider the Hanse 508 as our next big purchase, seems pretty hard to find a dealer here in the U.S. though. Given that sailboats cater to a much different market than motor yachts, I wouldn't mind if you touched on some of these items in the future: - Freshwater tank size - Watermaker (is it included, optional from the factory, etc.) - Battery size - Airconditioning optional? Great video as always, looks like you're sporting a Submariner in this one.
Lovely boat, I quite like the heads, I still prefer a centre cockpit, but this would be very tempting. Of course it’s probably the excellent Aquaholic Tour, that’s tempting me LOL. Great job Nick.
