NEC is what brought me here and earned a membership for me, so excited to have at least a bit of it back. Now you've got me wanting to kitbash the FrankenCrab, but for now please accept a heartfelt thanks for what you do for the community MechFrog!
Hello Frog. Hey! Another good NEC story! I agree that Tenika needed 'closure' as a character. Hopefully, she finds some peace in that mining colony site. Being both a Mechwarrior and Tech, she should be able to salvage an entire Mech out of the remains of the two Javelins. From the description, the Hatchetman just needs a new cockpit, and Tenika can salvage most of the systems from her crab's cockpit to build a new one for the Hatchetman. That alone would give the community two jumping Mechs for defense, and any other weapons systems should be able to be salvaged and mounted for defense into more substantial ground bunkers. Powered by salvaging a Mech's reactor core and heat sinks. Before you say 'that can't be done', it can. And if done right, it would work well. It would mean mining the site downhill of the town a bit. Building the reinforced bunkers, and laying power cabling deep into the earth to the buried reactor and its heat sinks. Which I would build with a 'dog leg' so that any stray shot would not hit the reactor. Building both bunkers and, lets call it a Power Center, deep in the earth and rock should protect them from all but the most accurate frontal shots, where the most armor would be placed for protection. Once built, the town would have to plant bushes and small trees to disguise the bunkers, but that's just landscaping. The community has at least some heavy equipment in the mines, so earth moving shouldn't be THAT big of a problem, since Tenika has bought them time. Selling ores at the town where Tenika met the recruiter, should enable the community to buy one, or two, of those derelict Mech Repair Gantries mentioned in the story. I am unsure of mining tech in the Battletech Universe, but I would think the miners have ready access to mining explosives. So, digging those bunkers and other field emplacements shouldn't be difficult. Also, access to explosives would allow the miners to build and emplace lots of mines along the access road and the road's edges. Claymore mines are not difficult to make, use, or place, so anti-infantry would be enhanced with explosives. Even 'only' mining grade explosives. Hell, one could make 'bouncing betty' mines out of large tin cans (actually steel, not tin), scrap, mining explosives, and low calibur rounds without projectiles. The firing mechanism would be somewhat 'bodged', but should be simple to make and use, along with trip wires. Back to the Mech salvage... There should be plenty of myomer, armor plates, actuators, etc from the 5 Mechs involved, to get at least two Mechs up and running again. Possibly three, depending upon just how damaged the others were. Just about all of this could be accomplished in a year. And I figure that it would be at least a year before the other sites could even hope to replace the Mechs they had lost, if then. It would be a busy year, yes. But a fruitful one for the community. Oh, and Tenika could train the guy that recruited her to operate one of the Mechs, and train Ann (the little girl) to be an Astech, with a view to her becoming a pilot as she gets older. Just a few thoughts. P. S. I agree wholeheartedly that you got yourself a good voice actor to read the story. She did very well indeed. Kudos to you both.
insane get on the narrator, I immediately recognized her from Blood Will Tell! really great story, glad the lower audience numbers isn't dissuading you from writing good character stuff. it's very well done
Once again, Mech Frog knocks it out of the park with an excellent story! Awesome narration work, too! But it takes a good story, and you sir, you write a good story!
I actually only just finished NEC a couple months ago and was sad it was the end; it was a solid end and satisfying but I really enjoy your work. So needless to say this was an amazing surprise yo see pop up today!
Has it really been almost a year since the Finale? Wow. Glad to see your knack for writing compelling characters is still sharp, and Lisa did a fantastic job!
As much as I love the crab, PGI's cockpit placement is soooo much better. I look at Catalyst's and wonder if the pilot is supposed to lay on his belly and crane his head up.
whoaaaa. standing ovation all round. stoked for the return of NEC. Lisa's narration was awesome. Caught me off-guard to hear "Teneca" but listen to a different voice deliver her lines but it was great. I hope to hear more narration from Lisa.
It's pieces like this that fuel my desire to start writing, myself. One day i hope totell even half as compelling a story as this. Well done, Mechfrog. I cant wait for the next one, and i hope to hear of a upstart new merc outfit called Taneca's Talons sometime in the future.
I waited a while MF for another NEC, and not surprise at the start, of the Big Guy's effect still lingering. From King Crab to Franken-Crab. All still will be crab and a new home. Till the next NEC tale, keep hoppin MF
What a wonderful epilogue for Teneka. Vasil would be proud of her accomplishment. The wayward warrior finding defending a forgotten town is an old trope but a good one and she wears it well. I was both touched and happy with this story and if this is where we leave her I can be content with it.
Such a good and heartfelt story. I’m not crying (but just because my hormone setup makes crying harder). Really happy for Taneka to have found a home (for now).
I really want to see Tenecca (spelling) cobble the Crab together with the scrap from the attacking mechs. They likley have a couple SRM-6's, a hatchet, maybe an AC-10 and aome miscellanious lasers. A Crab with a Snub PPC, a hatchet, and an SRM-6 pack would be a very interesting build.
Well done to all involved on a very entertaining and engaging story. I will be looking forward to more in the future as with a little time and polish I can see even better stories being crafted by you in the future. Not that this was bad at all as I already stated it was a good story that left me wanting more. Take care and God Bless...
I miss Vasyl :( there is a huge gigantic elemental shaped and teal'c flavoured void in my soul. I love that she got a matching tattoo to honour him though.
Love the stories. Nice to see franken mechs in action, always spurs my imagination for stories where a single 'useless' mech with only MGs or AC2 could be very valuable vs bandits. Great content, Im very old I dont get these modern layouts, wanted to support on koffi but can't find wheres a link for it. Get back to me with some pointers if you can xD
Now, that was an enjoyable story, and the narrator did an awesome job and brought the characters to life. I really do enjoy your channel, and please keep up the good content. Just out of curiosity, are you going to keep writing more short stories? Because you did write a good story.
Taneka makes a new small friend.
Vasyl would nod approvingly.
I think so.
I'm not crying... *sniff*
Only a couple of minutes and you can feel the effort and quality put in.
Liisa can make anything sound good.

Now I need to kitbash a frankencrab... Thank you so much for the support!
"All the grace of an inebriated giraffe". What a fantastic image!
Heh. :D
That's almost Douglas Adams level.
Not sure why the stories don’t get the views but I love it…It’s what the community needs more of
I'm happy to give this gift to the channel regulars. views or no.
NEC! Also your short stories are fantastic... new power on Flynn? Unified planet? Trading partners? Periphery kingdom????
Thanks a lot for giving them a go.

I'm not at all concerned about the views for this. It was a gift for you and well worth the effort.
@MechanicalFrog Thank you from the community. I also like the modified Crab. Snubby!
Once again, Mech Frog knocks it out of the park with an excellent story! Awesome narration work, too! But it takes a good story, and you sir, you write a good story!
Glad you enjoyed it!
NEC IS BACK BAYBE! GRAB A SIBCO AND A SPHEROID
Well written and enjoyable story.
Lisa's narration really added to the characters.
Thank you. Liisa is awesome.

Im so glad you are still doing NEC stories
RAAAAAGH WE ARE SO BACK
Yay!
Yesssss! New Story!
Huzzah!
This hits so oddly with Opera GX background music jumping in when there are moments of silence. Love Lisa Lee's voice for this!
Liisa is great!
So looking forward to getting off work at 0600 & listening to this one!
I cant up vote this enough!

Loved the story and Lisa did an awesome job! More? :)

Hope you enjoyed it.

Thanks for having this done, it was very enjoyable and the narration top notch!🎉
Thanks for giving it a go and for the continued support for the channel.
OUTSTANDING!!!! Now I have to go back and listen through those original NEC videos again.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome story and narration! Happy to see NEC return!
Thanks for giving it a go and coming along on the adventure.

Yaaaaaaaay! Really well done! Great story and great voice acting!
Thank you so much! I really wanted to go all out for this one.
What a wholesome sendoff for Taneka. Love the reference of the tattoos.
She, (and Vasyl as proxy) deserved a good wrap up.
@@MechanicalFrog absolutely. And Vasyl.....an elemental with a heart as big as a 400xl engine.
A great story,
And congrats on 15k!
Thank you so much 😀

I would definitely recommend it. :)

happy to see more NEC!
It was a wonderful surprise to hear this great story. The N.E.C was a fantastic story and we need more like it
Thanks so much for giving it a go.
Absolutely fantastic. The narration was very good and we got some closure on things left hanging.
Glad you enjoyed it
This was great and really nice conclusion for my favorite character in the NEC.
Teneca deserved a good conclusion.
Such a good and heartfelt story. I’m not crying (but just because my hormone setup makes crying harder).
Really happy for Taneka to have found a home (for now).
I'm glad she could be given a good conclusion.
Great story by you as always. I really appreciate these and how more are to come.
Thanks for listening. I think Teneca needed a proper wrap-up.
I couldn’t help noticing that the emotional support small laser was getting a bunch of shots in at the end 😂
Purely coincidental and not due to any author bias.
Awesome! I've been "patiently" waiting for this lol.
Felt good to finally give Teneca some closure.
That was a great story! I'll have to go back and check out the previous ones now! Thanks for the entertaining video and stay safe out there!
Thanks a lot. If you do back to listen to the NEC, it'll definitely add something to what you listened to here with Teneca.
very good periphery story and the voice actress who played it is excellent at what she does

Thanks for giving it a go!
It would be great to have your stories in podcasts form. I don't always have access to TH-cam when I am out patrolling. 👍
That would be neat.
Great job Mechfrog! You sir are an author! Keep them coming!
Thanks a lot!
Glad to see your fiction back
Felt good to do some writing again.
