Echo Lake Hike: Easy Hikes Near South Lake Tahoe and the Desolation Wilderness!!

This is a pretty cool hike we did near South Lake Tahoe, called Echo Lake. The initial hike is about 5.3 miles with only a few hundred feet of elevation gain. This hike is one of the many ways to get into the desolation wilderness.
Disclaimer: Do not fly your drones in this area, it has come to my attention that drones are no longer allowed to fly in any wilderness areas or California state parks, as of the update of this message the ca.gov website says that drones ARE ALLOWED however this is NOT necessarily TRUE. be sure to always call local authorities to find out the most current flying restrictions. thanks and be safe.

Some cool history there, but Echo Lake cabins DO have running water. The cabins on your trail side filter their water from the lake, but the other side of the lake offers amazing, fresh, cold water right off the snowmelt. Our cabin has a kitchen, washroom, shower, etc. with water - even hot, thanks to propane. It's rustic, but not camping.

can you hike from echo to horsetail falls or is there no trail?

I think there is a way to get there but it’s not an official trail. I know they get pretty close. I haven’t tried it however.

@@JohnExploresEverything It's been a terrifying month, but amazingly none of the cabins on the lake burned! Quite a few were lost along the road. So tragic.
