  • A brief unboxing, impressions, and testing of the Eley hose reel (model 1043). It's easily the best hose real I have used. Don't overthink it, just get one: www.eleyhosere...

Have this cart. Although costly, it is worth every penny. Quality is what you’re paying for. I will say though, I swapped out the hose with some Continental Rubber hoses for more flexibility. It is now perfect.

I just returned on of these. It is extremely high quality, but is not a great design. Compared to those heavy (rusting) steel carts, it is very unstable and tippy. And the hose always falls over the edge of the reel unless you guide it the whole way with your hands.

Regarding the winding direction comment at 5:50; the copper gooseneck swivels both axially (for spooling) and radially (for changing the winding direction). So you *can* choose to wind hoses onto the reel in either the clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. I suspect OP knows this by now, but just mentioning for the benefit of others watching the video.

I just installed the wall mount model with the ELEY hoses, (1) 100' & (1) 20' (feeder hose from faucet), and their quick connects, and all nozzles. Plus; the cover.
So; I've invested a little over $650 total in this project. But; I'm set for life! 👍🍻
I was so fed up with the cheap plastic box store garbage and their barely passable hoses.
ELEY is Pure Quality!! Not to mention; a 10 Year Warranty against leaks and breakage!

$300.00 and made in China? I’d rather pay some Nebraska workers. Bring it home, Eley.

I have one of the early models of this design from 2009, when it was called rapid reel. There are some scratches from it getting knocked over a few times, but otherwise still looks great and works just like it did back then. Design looks pretty much unchanged.

Don't know about the cart reel, but the wall mounted ones can be installed parallel to the wall or perpendicularly, so you can pull the house straight out like you are talking about.

Love mine, only wish they made the handles a bit taller so could be used comfortably by adults. Fine to scoot around a small yard but for a large property, slightly annoying.

So what is the verdict on the Irwin Rotary Scissors you were so excited about? The fact that you didn't follow up leads me to believe that you were unimpressed but would like to hear your experience.

Sorry, just saw this. The rotary scissors are over hyped IMHO. Especially for the cost. Can't say I would give a buy recommendation on it.

Three years later, how is it holding up?

Still really good! I think the only thing I would have done different is get the one mounted to the wall. I never wheel it around. Sorry for the late reply, didn't see your comment for some reason.

What do you think about the Eley hose? I’m sold on the reel and accessories, but would love your take on the hose itself. So expensive!

It's really nice. Much better fittings than anything I have bought in the store. It does not kink easily at all... it is not super light, but not really an issue... agreed, its not cheap.

Scott Aubuchon thanks! How long is the hose you have on there? Think the reel would be overkill for a 50’ hose?

    • @flying_scott
      @flying_scott  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@andrew947 I have a 100ft on there... and as I use it more and more, it's a little problematic. What happens is the hose gets wound up overlapping and becomes a little "stuck" together after sitting in the heat. So, when I go to pull it off, the cart has tipped a few times due to the hose being stuck to itself. It gets easier after about half is out... so to answer your question, I think 50 is actually preferred. In the future, I will be using a house mounted one.. but for now I need the cart.

@Scott Aubuchon - Very helpful. I don’t need more than 50’, and based on your info I’m going to get the wall mount reel, the 50’ hose & quick connect system. I may go overboard and get the sprayer nozzle too 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

@@flying_scott I use rubber hoses exclusively from Sears. I hope you can still get them with Sears going out of business. Rubber hoses are hard to find.
