Welcome to my Austin Mini Mayfair 998cc Automatic restoration. This project car was bought from e-bay in July 2020 for the sum of £4000. My intentions are to carry out a light restoration and make the car the best it can be while keeping it almost completely original. The end result will be a time warp back to 1984 and the car will look like it has just left the showroom.
This Mini Mayfair is rare in that it has only covered 12,000 miles since new, only 330 miles per year! The shell is almost completely rust free and has never been welded or had any panels replaced.
In this update, I overhaul the front top suspension arms fitting a new pin kit, needle bearings, knuckle joints, and Hilo

Hi once again, when I did my front suspension arms I bought a cheap internal bearing puller kit off eBay for £ 25 I was a bit dubious about how effective it would be , but it was great had both bearings out literally in seconds, no fuss or nonsense, worth thinking about if you’re doing them on another project. Can’t take the credit for it as I think William Murfitt did a video on it.
Have a great and safe Christmas everyone, Regards Dave🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Good tip! I'll have a look. There is plant of room at the back of the bearing for an internal puller to fit.

Hi Keith I followed your advice with Christine’s first start up, I set it all up cranked it over and nothing I then realised HT leads 2 and 3 were the wrong way round (not me!!) tried again and got a very lumpy response and after a few moments the engine ran but stared to increase revs significantly so I switched it off after which I couldn’t get it going again. I’m not sure what’s going on. Happy to hear your thoughts.
Keep up the good work I think I get as much pleasure watch you restoration as I do my own .
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Maybe an air leak if it was revving up by itself? Worth checking the inlet manifold and gasket

Thanks I’ll have a look, I also thought it might be either the accelerator cable or the idle screw too far in?
