Looking forward to being able to afford this one day! Once I actually start to compete in VGC, this will be one of my first investments to get access to that World Champ difference, baybeeee!
It was actually made for torterra, probably. In PLA, they added three moves that were only learnable by the starters and three new Paldean Pokémon/forms: Headlong Rush by Torterra and Ursaluna, Raging Fury by Infernape and Hisuian Arcanine, and Wave Crash for Empoleon and Basculegion. The only one that didn't get distributed to other Pokémon in SV is Raging Fury which is still only learnable by Infernape and H-Arcanine. I suspect that they made these new moves specifically for the starters.
For Kleavor, you made a mistake: X-Scissor *is* boosted by sharpness, though the speed control aspect of pounce might play, I think the raw power might make the sharp move more attractive, because Kleavor offers little outside of stealth rocks and damage
What Kleavor really needs is a priority move...namely the one that they gave to lycanrock nearly a decade ago and still refuse to distribute to anyone else for some reason.
Scizor with something like tera dragon is very interesting in my opinion. The only natural threats to scizor are fire types. Dragon resists it. It also resists water and grass. The fact that Ogerpon , rillaboom and urshifu are everywhere, means this will be a very hard counter to them. After it Teras into dragon, it does become weak to Chien-pao and flutter mane, but technician bullet punch essentially ohkos both of them without sash. This on top of the fact that people won't want to bring flutter or Chien pao into a matchup with scizor because it resists ice and fairy naturally. With dual wing beat, it can get rid of the troublesome grass and fighting types everywhere. I'm glad you mentioned this and I plan on trying it out starting today!
This is pretty intriguing because I’ve thought about potential tera dragons on certain Pokémon since fire/water/grass cores have been so popular but then I take two seconds and remember, “oh yeah flutter mane exists”
@@mecha5893 exactly but I think scizor specifically checks flutter and at the very least forces a defensive Tera from it! About to start testing right now
@@wjt764 so this is what I ended up figuring out. I must preface this by saying I am in the top 1000 on the scarlet violet online ladder so I am usually playing against standard strong meta teams. Firstly, I had a very hard time bringing scizor into matchups . For some reason, as soon as I started using scizor, I ran into either a farigiraf or indeedee f EVERY GAME. This is troublesome enough as it is but there are more problems with scizor. Scizor is quite slow which means even if it Tera’s into dragon, it can be doubled up onto with neutral moves. Urshifu close combat is a big issue. Chien pao is not actually walled by scizor either. This is because of sucker punch. Since Chien pao is faster, sucker punch will go before bullet punch and it will do 40-50% damage to you. This essentially forces you to deal with Chien-pao quickly which is very hard to do when almost every Chien-pao is running focus sash and protect. Since almost everything outspends scizor, you have to rely heavily on bullet punch and if you cant use it, scizor’s viability decreases substantially. Lastly, bug is not a good stab typing . It is resisted by fire, bug, steel, fighting and poison. I may be forgetting a few as well. This means that even if scizor can get off an attack, with how slow it is, it usually cant do enough damage to pressure opponents into even taking it seriously . Long story short, scizor is bad. What I did learn however, is that ceruledge is VERY GOOD right now. Tera grass ceruledge in particular. It completely walls all of Ogerpons form, it walls heatran , and with a single Bulk up , it walls iron hands , rillaboom, dragonite and many more. The toughest thing about this strategy is ….you guessed it……Chien-pao once again . If you don’t Tera grass, then sucker punch ohkos unless you have a lot of bulk and/or have used bulk up at least once . If you do Tera grass, then it outspeeds you and can ohko with icicle crash or ice spinner. I would recommend running protect on your ceruledge to bait out protect on their end and to properly time your uses of bitter blade. The recovery from bitter blade is absolutely ridiculous. It seems to recover like 75% of damage dealt. Leftovers, combined with protect and bitter blade makes this thing a nightmare to remove . I have won many matches in 1 v 2s and 3s with this thing but it is not easily to pull off. Both of these picks are very niche however and I don’t think they are good enough to consider bringing to a tournament or anything . So this is about all I’ve got . Let me know if you guys have any questions.
Quick misconception: X-Scissor is boosted by sharpness and it does do a ton of damage when on Kleavor. Other than that great vid! Looking forward to finally seeing my bois Shiftry and Kommo-O getting more usage!

Yeah even though Mach Punch is better because of Iron Fists, Vacuum Wave is still quite decent but Aura Sphere is definitely a big one because the only other special fighting move it got was Focus Miss and I 100% would take Aura Sphere with that guranteed damage over that
@@aerostar1334 I mean he is fast maybe you OHKO'd a mon with Flare Blitz and then you can recover the recoil using Drain Punch on the next mon. The main thing is that it's a buff Infernape never had. Might not be a useful buff but a buff is still a buff.
Literally why did they get rid of silver wind?? I'm STILL trying to figure out why they made the weird choice to get rid of silver wind because now special bug types in game use struggle bug until like 25 levels later and get bug buzz. Streamlining the move pools was a weird move for competitive gameplay (no pursuit or hidden power) but it's also odd for playthroughs where moves like Mirror Shot or Ominous Wind were meant to be small improvements to your moves as you go through, and it felt good to learn new small improvements that felt like your mons leveling up were actually getting stronger other than raw stats. Now it can feel like you jump from moves that are basically the 'tackle' of a specific type, to moves like Wood Hammer or Psychic in terms of BP with little change in between. Sorry for the rant, your comment just reminded me of that.
@railfaneric7107 You say that as if they didn't give Protean to THREE starters. (Technically Cinderace's is called Libero, but it does the same thing)
Respect to Wolfey for actually putting out a video with useful info and analysis instead of just rushing a vid put with facts we can all read on Bulbapedia. This us why you deserve a million more subs.
I tried using Volbeat with tail glow and max sp atk investment during the story, then I failed to KO an NPC trainer’s pokémon even after the boost and a level advantage, so I boxed it again. 😐
@@chillcloak Try using Illumise instead it's special attack is higher with 73, still not high but better than Volbeat's special attack of 47. Volbeat is more of a physical attacker with 73 attack.
Volbeat has some niche play that if set up correctly can be dangerous, usuallly sash, then prankster tail glow turn 1 and baton pass into chi Ty/ flutter mane turn 2 for an insane spatk boost, otherwise they’re useless
Zapdos getting weather ball is nice to buff its coverage on a weather team. On a rain team it can run Hurricane/Thunder/Weather Ball and potentially tailwind if paired with Politoed instead of Pelliper. Also kinda neat on hail teams for an ice move to smack Landorus/Ursaluna.
Everyone sleeps on Normal Gem Quick Attack Technician- Flying Tera Acrobatics Scizor. If it's terrifying with Sneedsler it's just as scary with Scizor. Dont sleep on it.
Switcheroo Infernape is interesting, it can get decent usage out of choice band, specs, and scarf or if it has a bad matchup, it can swap items to mess up opponent sets. Def situational and infernape still isn’t amazing, but I still think it’s worth a mention
12:44 On the topic of Scald, one Pokémon that did get Scald back is Pincurchin. I know it isn’t exactly the most useful Pokémon around, but I’ve enjoyed using it back in Reg A to screw up the, at the time, common Indeedee-F and Armarouge lead with Electric Surge while also messing with Torkoal via Rain Dance and shutting down Amoongus’s Spore with the Electric Terrain. Having Scald back gives it the chance to effectively increase its physical bulk by burning the opponent, which can buy it more time alive and able to switch in and set Electric Terrain. Blocking Sleep tends to be a big deal, whether it’s Spore, Rest, or the Hail Mary Hypnosis plays, and some Pokémon (particularly the future Paradox Pokémon) benefit a ton from the presence of Electric Terrain. Given that Miraidon currently isn’t legal yet and Tapu Koko isn’t available yet, Pincurchin is the only reliable Electric Terrain setter, and having Scald back, at least if you ask me, definitely increases its viability.
@slimestudios9748 rising voltage Miraidon would be absolutely disgusting. I'm pretty sure there might not be a reason to use electro drift over rising voltage in this hypothetical scenario
@@Castersvarogeven against electric weak mons it might not be the best. I have not run calcs or anything, but I don't think there's any Water type that would resist a 140 BP stab terrain and ability boosted move with double damage coming from a mon with 135 Sp attack. Tankier Flying mons would be more resistant due to not being grounded and thus not causing Rising Voltage to increase in power while Electro Drift might pickup the 1HKO, but I don't think there's any relevant Flying type this tanky in the game right now (maybe the Flying cover legendaries if they come back in the DLC, with Lugia in particular being able to tank even more thanks to Multiscale).
In regards to Baxcalibur receiving play. It’s already been banned from OU on Showdown because of the fact it is an Ice Type and therefore has an easy time switching in and setting up with Swords Dance. This is due to Ninetales with Aurora Veil AND the Defence Boost from Snow. Before the ban, I ran a team with Empoleon, Chandelure, Glimmora and Corviknight, and it worked surprisingly well.
I think GF should give stat buffs to older pokemon again in addition to new abilities and moves, like for example Ledian. Give it 20-30 more in Physical atk and give it Huge Power as an ability
Roaring mid has had Scale shot for a while now, I know this because I tried running a white herb acrobatics set, he did not turn out well, but if it’s because of the set or because of my experience, I do not remember lol
I'm surprised you didnt mention the rock blast and bullet seed combination with shell smash, loaded dice on torterra thats now possible. keep up your content, always sorted and informative!
I'm really curious as to how Ogrepon with the Water Mask + Follow me would do as it has Water Absorb and would counter Rapid Urshifu's signature move, and would definitely be my go to idea if I was playing comp or even wanted to play the DLC, but it looks like it'd physically hurt me to play with that level of awful frame rate
If I remember correctly Kommo-o has access to all the elemental punch moves so you could change it's Tera type accordingly and get rid of the Flying/Ice/Fairy weakness that's so common in competitive and get off a Dragon Dance and wreck shop, Life Orb or even Muscle Band would be awesome for more offensive pressure too
Oh yeah plus Clangorous Soup and and there was another dragon type move but I don't remember what one it is off the top of my head are both boosted by throat spray too so you could have other one of those with your elemental punch, bullet punch for coverage and dragon dance then I don't know go electric Tera and be set
don’t forget to mention that torterra learning shell smash makes it a beast in other formats such as it’s pre evos in lc since you mentioned that kilowattrel might be good in other formats
Now, I'm not saying it's viable, but I find it hilarious how with Torterra's new shell smash synergy, after that bonus with max speed EV investment, you are exactly 1 speed higher than a positive speed nature max speed EV dragapult. And most of them that would run a speed nature would more than likely run specs with a special build, so you wouldn't run into a dragon dance very often when the difference matters. What's even more funny about this is that Torterra's base speed stat is 56. And it's somewhat uncommon for pokemon stats to vary off increments of 5 for base stats. Personally, I despize dragapult given how naturally fast it is for no reason but this gives me the chance to get some stupid revenge if the opportunity ever comes up.
I was fighting an Empoleon on Showdown recently (Gen 9 National Dex). I have a Kartana with attack lowered by Intimidate. It’s in front of my Hatterene that knows I have Mystical Fire, switches out into Empoleon, and when the Mystical Fire lowers its Sp. Attack, I see Competitive. And I’m happy! Defiant never really suited Empoleon since, while it can be good mixed, it’s obviously more Sp. Attack focused.
This is a good step in the right direction, weaker pokemon getting buffed is something we need more of. Really happy to see this done. Also I've used Bonnet to very good success, but thats most likely just me here, hehe
Wolf, you missed a big one. Torterra gets Headlong Rush now; that's a massive buff. Its higher base power than Earthquake, is single target, and isn't affected by Grassy Terrian (that last one being especially major since it gets Grassy Glide now too). Its a much bigger deal than Shell Smash, imo.

And that's all i can remember of what I know already/learned about new stuff in the dlc. There's probably oyher stuff, but either i forgot about it or havent learned they got this move or wutevr.
Yeah even though Mach Punch is better because of Iron Fists, Vacuum Wave is still quite decent but Aura Sphere is definitely a big one because the only other special fighting move it got was Focus Miss and I 100% would take Aura Sphere with that guranteed damage over that
Don't forget that Infernape also FIANLLY got access to Drain Punch meaning it now has STAB Iron Fist boosted Drain Punch for recovery.
@@Gotenhanku since when are you going to recover with a glass canon like Infernape???
@@aerostar1334 I mean he is fast maybe you OHKO'd a mon with Flare Blitz and then you can recover the recoil using Drain Punch on the next mon. The main thing is that it's a buff Infernape never had. Might not be a useful buff but a buff is still a buff.
@@Gotenhanku lol
Finally, shiftry is immune to Silver Wind :)
Also Signal Beam. Why on earth did they get rid of signal beam. Especially with the loss of hidden power psychic types got hella boned in coverage
Now imagine if Torterra got Unburden as its hidden ability. Never gonna happen, but I find it kinda funny to think about
could you even imagine an unburden shell smash pokémon? With white herb that's like 4 times speed with one move and double attack, crazy
@@mme.veronica735 Shuckle chads... we will rise.
I can see why they didn’t give Torterra Unburden considering they already gave it to Sceptile.
@railfaneric7107 You say that as if they didn't give Protean to THREE starters.
(Technically Cinderace's is called Libero, but it does the same thing)
Now just waiting for the “Why Torterra is a menace in competitive” video back from his starter tier list 😂
My boy Torterra! I love him so much. Best Pokémon of all Time!!!
The idea of tera normal Kommo-o using Boomburst also intrigues me, especially if it manages to set up with throat spray first.
Maybe the biggest buff is the friends we meet along the way
*insert Patrick Star boo gif here*
Cringe....I hate this word....
14:40 Kilowattrel already had access to Weather Ball I’m pretty sure, via egg moves
20:41 " roaring mid" 😂
Respect to Wolfey for actually putting out a video with useful info and analysis instead of just rushing a vid put with facts we can all read on Bulbapedia.
This us why you deserve a million more subs.
I've had scale shot on Roaring Moon since release, it's a move reminder move. I'd love to see it used somehow
It’s the one and only mon to get it via level up which is newt
I wish they'd give buffs to Pokémon that are truly unusable like Illumise and Volbeat.
simple, Reg E remove Tornadus, Talonflame, Murcrow etc so that those two are the only ones with Prio Tailwind
you're welcome 😂
@@PeterGriffin11does Illumise get Tail Glow? I remember in older gens it didn’t when Volbeat did
the true buff was wolvey
The true buff was the friends we made along the way
“Fighting types like Urshifu and…… Urshifu”
Honestly though
Didnt even mention Empoleon getting Roost thats huuge. Thats like the thing everyone was saying held back Empoleon, having no recovery.
That megaman background music sure pumped me up. This elevated an already excellent video.
Wolfe calling it “roaring mid” at 20:42 ? A little Freudian slip there?😂😂
Everyone sleeps on Normal Gem Quick Attack Technician- Flying Tera Acrobatics Scizor. If it's terrifying with Sneedsler it's just as scary with Scizor. Dont sleep on it.
Throat chop is pretty good control against kommo-o, especially with boomburst
Switcheroo Infernape is interesting, it can get decent usage out of choice band, specs, and scarf or if it has a bad matchup, it can swap items to mess up opponent sets. Def situational and infernape still isn’t amazing, but I still think it’s worth a mention
4:26 “Explosion if you wanna go boom”
-Wolfey 2023
so how good is this pokemon now?
wolfey: "its at least worth considering"
The editor has based VG music taste, Undertale, Raincode, and Great Ace Attorney OST❤
i felt that double sucker punch in pterrain at 2:49
12:44 On the topic of Scald, one Pokémon that did get Scald back is Pincurchin.
It’s really disappointing Koraidon did not receive solar blade
would've been really funny if Korai got Blade and Mirai got Rising Voltage
@slimestudios9748 rising voltage Miraidon would be absolutely disgusting. I'm pretty sure there might not be a reason to use electro drift over rising voltage in this hypothetical scenario
@@conorb.1901there might be a use against electric weak Mons, but Rising voltage would easily be the go to because of the sheer damage it gives
Koraidon does not need solar blade.
Whoever is doing the editing and threw in the Rain Code music, you are seen and appreciated.
“And the fighting types like Urshifu and Urshifu”
I mean he isn’t wrong
Torterra was a beast then and now it's a monster!! Let's go!!
Scizor receiving anything makes me happy
Since Shiftry got it's buff it's on my team (mono normal)
- Fake Out
- Explosion
- Leaf Blade
- Tail Wind
Wind Rider Ability
252 Atk 252 Speed
Holding Life Orb
In regards to Baxcalibur receiving play.
It’s already been banned from OU on Showdown because of the fact it is an Ice Type and therefore has an easy time switching in and setting up with Swords Dance.
This is due to Ninetales with Aurora Veil AND the Defence Boost from Snow. Before the ban, I ran a team with Empoleon, Chandelure, Glimmora and Corviknight, and it worked surprisingly well.
this is about vgc
I think GF should give stat buffs to older pokemon again in addition to new abilities and moves, like for example Ledian. Give it 20-30 more in Physical atk and give it Huge Power as an ability
Kilowattrel has been able to run weatherball since launch through egg moves
2 wolfey videos in one week? I must be dreaming
Roaring mid has had Scale shot for a while now, I know this because I tried running a white herb acrobatics set, he did not turn out well, but if it’s because of the set or because of my experience, I do not remember lol
These are niche buffs for sure, but gawd damn boys we got new Tech options for team building.
I'm surprised you didnt mention the rock blast and bullet seed combination with shell smash, loaded dice on torterra thats now possible. keep up your content, always sorted and informative!
I wish we had more time to really explore this new meta more. October is gonna be a wild month!
It always makes me smile that of all the Gen 3 pokemon to be eternally relevant it's Torkoal XD
I'm still waiting for the helping hand perrserker surprise
Gtassy glide with the grassy terrain boost gets becomes 71 base power aprox, so it still deals good damage
I’ve been trying to make an ogerpon team and I’m getting confused on what to do. This video is kinda helpful for building a doubles team. Thanks!
Love the rain code music playing in the background during the Torterra section
Someone at game freak became obsessed with grass type this dlc
I will always hate that Kilowattrel has one less base speed point than Talonflame
I'm so happy Empoleon might be used competitively
Victreebel can now learn grassy glide and sucker punch
Iron valiant now has vaccum wave, before he has only shadow sneak for priority
Scyther and Scizor have had Dual Wingbeat since the move was introduced, it isn't new.
Id love to hear about Grotle’s usage in 2015. I know clefairy and dusclops are good preevolutions but I would like to hear about any others.
My man used the Konga Conga Kappa for the music monkey Rillaboom, i love it so much
dude that's amizing that in the rilaboom segment the background music is king konga theme from the crypt of the necrodancer!
I completely missed that Gallade gets Solar Blade after this dlc. Now I really want to make a Torkoal team with him
ok putting king conga boss music during rillaboom was pretty funny lol
Incineroar+rilaboom+empolion seems like it would be a fun fire water grass core with pledges
Video Idea: Pokemon showdown but your team is under leveled for example like level 40 so your 10 levels lower then your opponent
I'm just happy Infernape has Drain Punch outside of Legends Arceus
This is a good step in the right direction, weaker pokemon getting buffed is something we need more of. Really happy to see this done.
Also I've used Bonnet to very good success, but thats most likely just me here, hehe
hey thats me :D
thanks for the cameo, wolfe & team
Hey wolfe, X-Scissor is in fact, boosted by sharpness so Lunge is only run for the drop.
2:00 Rain Code music spotted, another cookie for the editor
16:37 and another for the Ghost Trick
Wolf, you missed a big one. Torterra gets Headlong Rush now; that's a massive buff. Its higher base power than Earthquake, is single target, and isn't affected by Grassy Terrian (that last one being especially major since it gets Grassy Glide now too). Its a much bigger deal than Shell Smash, imo.
Drum Beating looking rly good rn after Grassy Glide nerfs
tyranitar is bout to become a menace in doubles
the ghost trick music when you started talking about ceruledge 😂
