I stayed in edmonton traveling from Victoria bc to Toronto Ontario back in 2016 for like 2 months. I would never live again in edmonton. City is like town , never stopping constructions, just 1 street is downtown, middle of nowhere, crazy weather super cold, very snowy. Investing in real estate in edmonton could be worst decision of anyone's life prices never go up.
I lived there in 1982-1984, in the west end, Stoney Plain Rd area, I worked at the Chefs Table, which I hear is gone now, lost contact with the family who owned it.
Hey David, thanks for watching! That restaurant must be gone, too bad. There are not many locally owned restaurants, Astros is in the west end and really good! Where did you move to?
@@PatrickFieldsRE I came back to Ontario, the restaurant was at 156th St and 11thAv, the family who ran it was a Chinese family name Lai, Peter Lai was the manager.

And there's skiing, skating, and other outdoor activities to stay active. I helped a family move here from the UK last fall and they loved the winter (except for a few very cold days)! He's a Dr and rides his bike year round to the hospital! There's many people that ride fat tire bikes in the winter. You just bundle up and get used to it
I have been here since I was born. Edmonton is full of diversity. But people in this city have some attitude. I have lived right beside low income areas and 1 dangerous neighborhood, and trust me when I say this. White people don’t understand what street life is like. I grew up spending most of my time on them and I can say I have never seen a white gang here 😂. I am native, and if I walk by a cop they always keep their hand right next to their gun. So yes, depending how you spend your time your experience will vary. But be prepared to see a LOT of Filipinos
@@mark3960 most of the west and southside is "gangland" you wouldnt believe the experiences i had. ive been beat with a pipe just for walking in the wrong area of my own neighborhood. last year someone was stabbed and bled out in that same area i got beat. people get assaulted there constantly and people rubbing feces on my car cuz they mad at me. people smashing windows, breaking into schools, constantly armed. i seen that, so u may think where u from is bad. try livin here. my father OD'ed on caine and schizo pills for a disorder he got from doing drugs too young. i used to live downtown and we had hookers walking up and down the alley behind my house everyday. while in that same house someone stole our rv. in april of this year a black kid got beat by a group of racist kids while they threw slurs at him. in edmonton we seen it all. now i live on the westside, have been for a while and we got that same problem. edmonton isnt what everyone thinks it is. Most people just live they 9 to 5 life and dont experience nothing. now i aint saying where u from aint bad. but u just talkin bout how edmonton dont got problems like ontario. nah, its just as bad here. if not worse
@@mark3960 it can be. u got low income right beside the million dollar houses here. there aint no in between. i know u being sarcastic when u sayin that. but no i aint describing LA cuz they got it worse than we do. but i just tell it how it is. as a native person these problems with the community are far more pressing for my people rather than white people. probably the only reason u takin like this a joke. like i said in the original comment, it depends how u spend ur time here to see what its really like, when u see what a minority has to go through u wont be laughing bout this. a white person could walk outside and see a rough neighborhood and not know where they are until they see what people doing there. but when i walk out my door, i look around, i know what it is. the look people give me, the way they talk and act. i understand where i am. you probably wont ever have the experiences i have cuz ur people dont try to forget and push away the pain of their actions and what was done to them. u think u know whats goin on, how can u joke about a place u never been to? how is it that a white cop can look at me and already have his hand on his gun before i even started to talk to talk to him? you dont have to worry about whether or not you gon have a group of people comin to beat ur a** over a beef with they cousin years ago. ur family aint gone through residential schools, they aint have to deal with substance abuse but you still try and talk about my life like its a joke. this is all real to me, its somethin i gotta live with. so how can you talk about my life like this? i got it worse than you, its just finally starting to get better, these things that happened to me shaped me into who i am today. but you gotta talk about it like it aint nuthin. why is that? how is that?
@@mark3960 ok, i re read everything and i admit i got carried away, i just read it different then u intended. so i will give u advice. alberta can have jobs that make lots of money, but most of that gets taken from us by Trudeau and he just gives it to Quebec so he gets voted in again. the equalization payments can get kinda crazy over here, and so can the income tax, etc. if you want to live somewhere peaceful where u can still keep most of your money i would live somewhere on the eastern side of canada under Treudeau's power. money wont be as tight. there is very little people in P.E.I and a house for the middle class can go for 200k average. you probably wont have a whole lot to do there community wise. but with there being less people prices will most likely stay low. thats my recommendation. but with this election trudeau aint really saying anything, just watch his response to school vote, watch another candidates response and u can tell he most likely wont get in. especially with all the shots everyone is taking at him. if PC gets in (which i hope it does) western canada will finally have money in they pockets again and then u might wanna move here. but if green party getting in they talkin bout a better safety net for canada (which we all know would get abused) which could help with housing for you and your wife. with free secondary education being offered by green and NDP. if one of them gets in any kids u do have wont have a problem with getting a good job if they put in the effort. but with them being as left wing as they are i would stay on the eastern side of canada.

Hi Mark, both cities have their pros and cons, I am glad I am raising my sons in Edmonton though! Let me know if I can answer any questions or show you some homes when you are here, you'd be amazed at the price difference between here and Vancouver!
Honestly I just keep track of the home sales, I know rent amounts have gone up in the past few years. I have a list of good websites I can send you if you like? Just send me your email address.
That is a tough question for me to compare other cities tech to Edmonton. We do have a growing tech sector here, but I know more about the housing market!
Hi Sharmalan, Edmonton is a great city to raise a family! I am lucky to live here! :-) Are you thinking of moving here? Let me know if I can answer any questions!
There are things about each city that I really like, I am very happy to live in Edmonton now (especially with kids)! Toronto was great but gets very hot and muggy in the summer and can have too much traffic, (but great if you are a Blue Jays fan or like concerts/shows etc). Vancouver is very beautiful but very expensive and lots of traffic too! Edmonton cost of living is lower, less traffic than those others and there is so much to see and do here!! 😀
I have question how people with allergies especially sneezing survive harsh Edmonton climate? I am worried I have been placed to Edmonton for doctoral research ! Please let me know I never experienced climate above -1 degree
Thanks for providing this valuable information. Can you please tell me whether the land area of Edmonton is flat or hilly (Slope) . I am considering to more to Alberta but I want to live in a city which is flat like the ones in Saskatchewan. Thank you
Thanks for watching! That is a great question, Edmonton is generally flat but we do have a wonderful river that runs through the city and there are 11 bridges that connect the city from side to side. The hilliest areas would be going up or down some of the hills to cross the bridges. Edmonton is quite similar to Saskatoon in that regard. Hope this helps, Edmonton is an AMAZING place to live!
Hello, it is great to have that much sunshine - when it gets cold you don't mind going outside, just bundle up! I helped a wonderful couple move here from the U.K. last year, they love it here!! There is depression everywhere, and probably more so this year with Covid, but that would be worldwide too! There are so many things to see and do in the city and close by. Hope to see you here someday! Stay safe and well!
I (the child of British immigrant parents) am British Columbian because of something mentioned in this video and surprisingly it's not the winter. It was the mosquitoes! My parents couldn't stand them and moved to BC after 5 years in Edmonton. The sun in Edmonton is wonderful but those skeeters are a pain.
Edmonton weather sucks. Often 8 months with snow in it. Yes Alberta is supposed to be the sunniest Province but you often can’t actually feel the sun. We get maybe 6 weeks of warm weather then back to crappy weather. People are friendly. Nice river valley. 4 hours from the mountains.
I be honest with you if I have to choose between Death and Edmonton which is also known as deadmonton I will choose Death reason there is no life in Edmonton the biggest mistake I made in life is I moved here and bought a house and I'm stuck.

Thankyou for your amazing review of Edmonton, Patrick! By the way, I just watched a 4k walking in Edmonton and the video showed very few people pass by. My question is : Is Edmonton that quiet? Cause I’m planning to study there soon and I’m a “love crowd” kind of person hahaha
Hi Luckizel, I have not seen that video so I am not sure what area they filmed, but normally Edmonton is a vibrant city with people out and about, moving around.
Hi friend what’s Edmonton Calgary Canada like is it worth the move and the cold weather outside and inside. Can we choose the course and the cost of living each house would be very expensive and to keep warm in the winter months and the food I am a vegan vegetarian so I would suggest what to eat the cost of living each time each person shops at Edmonton Calgary Canada shops and restaurants and shops bars all the stuff we need I live in the UK ok. All matters and the difference in diversity and the cultural nature. It’s beautiful scenes and the jobs. Mainly the cost of living crisis. It’s very expensive and warm but is it worth it.
Very informative video Patrick, I'm considering to study a master's degree in Edmonton, at the University of Alberta. Quick question, do you like Edmonton or Calgary better? What would you say are the major differences?
Hi Giovanni, thanks for watching the video, that is a great question! Personally I like Edmonton more, I have been to Calgary many times but never lived there though. I find their traffic is worse than here, it can be confusing to get around too. Housing and cost of living is a bit more there. U of A is fantastic, we see so many people from around the world come to Edmonton to get degree's! Enjoy whichever you choose and study hard! 😀 Stay safe and well!
Id say Edmonton is a bit more cultured , has a beautiful river valley with parks that Calgary can't compete with . And because Calgary sits at a much higher elevation than Edmonton , the summer overnights can get very , very chilly . Calgarians will tell you that they get these wonderful chinooks in the winter , which can b quite pleasant . But the reality is there is really only a few a year .

@Patric Fields Very nice video, quite sincere, but you have not mentioned anything about public transit in Edmonton..for those that do not own a car..and what about job oportunities? Also..how do you explain that there are many comments and videos on U tube talking about people being depressed in Edm. because of lack of sunshine in winter..? According to what you say it rivals Calgary in being very sunny..but ..is it? And how would you compare these two cities? (p.s. I am from Vancouver,so I know very little about Edm.)
Hello Joan, I should have discussed public transit - we have great bus service and an LRT system that they are in the works of expanding. It is great if you need to go downtown or to the University! I have not lived in Calgary so I can not comment on how we compare. I am not sure about the lack of sunshine, we get more than most cities in Canada!! Much more sunlight than Vancouver when it rains and rains and rains..... Hope you enjoyed it, please let me know if I can answer any other questions!
@@PatrickFieldsRE Patric, thank you so much indeed for your answer! The question I have is, what areas of Edmonton would you recommend for renting, as safe (not criminal or delinquent) and close to supermarkets, amenities, and possibly transit routes/Downtown?
@DAVE ADAM Hello, Dave, thank you so much for your answers! Great feedback about safety and the city as a whole, i appreciate your comments. I ve read your other comment to someone about the Festivals in Ed., very interesting! And yes, the Ed. Mall is famous.. I ve seen many videos of it.. Some people love and some hate, like with all such places, it is not for everyone, of course, but it is quite impressive. As for shopping, i meant more like supermarkets and Costco type stores, where person can buy anything necessary. It is great if those are accessible throught the city.. Thanks a lot for your comments, very helpful.. 😁👋👍
@DAVE ADAM Wow.. Thank you ever so much for such a detailed answer! I am looking at Edmonton videos because i am learning as much as I can about other, more affordable, Canadian cities, besides Vancouver.. At the moment we cannot afford to move out of Vancouver, and we like it where we are.. But it is important to know what our options would be in other cities.. I will definitely consider Edmonton, if we do decide to move after all this feedback.. Thank you, once again, for your response, all the best for you..

Hello! If you email me at pfields@outlook.com I can send you my list of best places to look for a rental home! I look forward to meeting you once you get here and settled! 😃
My family has been in Edmonton for 4 generations now; long time I suppose. Typically Edmonton has a reputation for being a blue collar city. The downtown is generally dead after work hours, and the city centre mall manages to get exponentially worse over time. After covid I don't know what will save Edmonton. The urban sprawl is another pet peeve, and property taxes are becoming unaffordable for some. If you want to get in to mature neighborhoods closer to the core and the river Valley, now is probably time to get in while the market slows down a bit.
Hi Michael, thank-you for your comment, I am not sure how I missed it! I am a bit newer to Edmonton, but my wife's family has been here for 4 generations as well! I think Edmonton will be ok after Covid, we will fare better than Calgary and Ft Mac for sure. We are lucky to have so much land and be spread out, it is an easy city to navigate unless you get into a newer community with named streets, trust me traffic in Vancouver was mad!! It is definitely tough to get a decent place close to the core or the river valley trails. Stay safe & take good care!! 👍
We do have some fantastic hospitals here, I helped a doctor from the UK move here last year! Not sure if there is a constant need for neurosurgeons or doctors here though, you would need to contact Alberta Health Services. Let me know if I can help you find a great home here though!
Yea you just talk about food parks things to or by house ! I was all over the world & Edmonton people are the coldest ppl on the planet 🌍 until social ppl very hard to meet ppl here is unbelievable

Hello, thank you for the video. I'm planning to go to Alberta, Edmonton or Calgary, I was wondering how is the job market there. Some people said it's hard to find a job there :(
Hello! Thanks for watching! Covid has hurt a lot of industries, but I made a video about how to find a job, I hope it helps you: th-cam.com/video/zr8b0LhUB84/w-d-xo.html
Hello Anas, it would really depend on what exactly you had in mind for marketing and business. Everyone will be facing new and uncertain times ahead with the effects of Covid, low oil prices, different government tightening of budgets and effects of that (lower salaries for teachers, doctors, fire, police etc.) So hard to predict where we are going, some people will make millions while others lose their homes sadly....

Dont do it

Cons: Not many good lakes, oceans or mountains nearby. Its downtown is also pretty quiet. Main pro (as a young person): cost of living.
I stayed in edmonton traveling from Victoria bc to Toronto Ontario back in 2016 for like 2 months. I would never live again in edmonton. City is like town , never stopping constructions, just 1 street is downtown, middle of nowhere, crazy weather super cold, very snowy. Investing in real estate in edmonton could be worst decision of anyone's life prices never go up.
you are so wrong on so many levels....
2.5 hrs to Jasper lol. try 4.5 hrs!
You are correct! We accidentally mapped to Hinton instead of Jasper. Thanks for watching, Happy Holidays!

Ooooooooh and they are such good burgers! Thanks for watching!

Huge home price difference
There is a big difference in home prices in certain areas here vs other provinces! Thanks for watching!
I’m from the uk we don’t usually have snow here but me and my family wanted to move to Victoria bc because it’s warmer but have family friends in edmonton
Where in the UK do you live now? Victoria is a beautiful city, you will love it there!! Edmonton is great but it gets colder here than in Victoria....
Patrick Fields, Edmonton Real Estate Guy I live in Manchester and I’m really excited for a fresh start but the only one thing is the weather what do you think about the weather in Edmonton?
@@shaz6461 we have beautiful spring, fall and summer but the winter can be long sometimes to be honest. But it's almost always sunny which is great!

That is a tough question for me to compare other cities tech to Edmonton. We do have a growing tech sector here, but I know more about the housing market!
Thanks! Sounds like a nice place to raise a family.
Hi Sharmalan, Edmonton is a great city to raise a family! I am lucky to live here! :-) Are you thinking of moving here? Let me know if I can answer any questions!
Which place would you choose from al the places you lived?
There are things about each city that I really like, I am very happy to live in Edmonton now (especially with kids)! Toronto was great but gets very hot and muggy in the summer and can have too much traffic, (but great if you are a Blue Jays fan or like concerts/shows etc).
Vancouver is very beautiful but very expensive and lots of traffic too! Edmonton cost of living is lower, less traffic than those others and there is so much to see and do here!! 😀
Very well done ... i am coming
Hi Kuldeep, you will love it here!
325 sunny days in a year? OMG, that's lovely. Do you have depression there at all? I am stuck in England. I would love love love to come to Edmonton.

@@PatrickFieldsRE Thank you very much for the information. Have a great day!

Thanks. I hope Edmonton's recovery is Swift.

Besides the COVID situation, how is the scope for marketing and business development jobs especially for expats?
Hello Anas, it would really depend on what exactly you had in mind for marketing and business. Everyone will be facing new and uncertain times ahead with the effects of Covid, low oil prices, different government tightening of budgets and effects of that (lower salaries for teachers, doctors, fire, police etc.) So hard to predict where we are going, some people will make millions while others lose their homes sadly....
