  • Growing Canna plants is sure to give your garden a tropical vibe. Their large jungly leaves and bright tropical flowers really help add colour and height to any garden. Propagating cannas is an easy task and is a low-cost way to get more canna plants for free. In this video I show you how to propagate canna plants by dividing their rise aims. If you have a favourite canna plant this method of propagating it will provide you with an exact clone of your favourite plant. As well as propagating canna plants I share some tips on how best to grow them and care for the canna lilies growing in your garden.

      I propagated them from seed and they came up within a month. I used a heated propagator, temperature controlled at 25°C. I made a small cut in each seed with a small hand saw (be careful not to saw through the endocarp; once you see the white layer you are good). Then soak the seeds for 48 hours in warm water. I put my seeds in plastic containers with damp vermiculite and cover them with a plastic lid. I used to use compost to germinate seeds but I find vermiculite is a lot better; less chance of root rott and fungus gnats stay away. I used the same method for Thalia Dealbata seeds which are quite similar.

      They should be fine if kept frost free and drier. 👍

    I've been searching all over the web and TH-cam: can someone PLEASE tell me if it's okay to water my canna lilies with my sprinkler system?? And if not, why not?

    • @vorong2ru
      @vorong2ru 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah why not lol. they love water and you can't overwater them while they are in the active growing stage, some of them literally live in plain water

  • @Royaliize
    @Royaliize ปีที่แล้ว

    Do cannas not need to heal where u been cutting before replanting?

    • @GrowParadise
      @GrowParadise  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never done this and it hasn't caused issues for my propagation 😁👍

      Where in the world is your garden?

    • @MrBaconwhopper
      @MrBaconwhopper ปีที่แล้ว

      In the Netherlands. I have Canna Kreta, the red Musafolia Rubrum and one with pink flowers. These things create shoots so fast. I transplanted the Kreta to a container to make space but it was bulging by the end of the summer from all the new rhizomes. I planted Canna Stuttgart last year and I hope it will come back this year. Also just bought a Canna Pretoria to see how hardy it is. I'm also growing Pollia Japonica, Tacca Palmata and Leea Macrophylla from seeds and am excited to see how these do but it will be a while because they are just seedlings. These aren't cannas but I thought you might be interested to check them out. The Tacca and Pollia are understory plants. The Pollia is hardy and the Tacca might be. The Leea Macrophylla is the only hardy Leea and has enormous leaves; very tropical looking.
