HOW TO RIG AN ANCHOR FOR YOUR BOAT

- Welcome to this segment of tips and tricks.Well the other day i lost my anchor out on the reef. so i thought this would make an interesting video. I'm rigging this anchor the standard way without the fail safe. I've rigged them both ways in my years fishing and in this area and depth of water i fish i don't feel its necessary for the fail safe. with that being said tho if i was to fish water deeper than 100 ft i would put in a fail safe. as always thank you so much for watching and if you like this video please hit that subscribe button.Tight lines yall

Nice way to secure a rope/chain to an anchor. I am surprised that I didn't think of the zip tie/rope trick. I use the zip ties to connect the pin to the clevis, kinda like a safety wire. Additionally I use loctite on the clevis pin threads.

Very good, just what I was looking for. A captain friend also uses zip ties but he puts it through the hole in the pin of the shackle so the pin cannot come out, which is how I lost my anchor. Thx again
You should really use the breakaway and attach it to the bottom securely. And run the chain to the top and attach with a zip tie. Comes in clutch to remove a stick anchor with lout loosing your anchor.

Thanks for this video,needed it lol. Lost the same exact anchor year before and almost lost the new one last year and we know how much they cost lol. Think of investing in the breakaway wreck anchors but the price is killing me man lol. Awesome video yet again.

I did read the shackle at the anchor should be the other way around so the screw pin goes through the chain not the anchor as it puts less stress on the shackle pin when the anchor moves around and less likely to come loose.

at 1:10 you can use a cable tie to stop the shackle from unscrewing.

I bought a high end anchor last spring , when my wife and i were done catfishing i went to pull the anchor up and it was stuck big time .. My wife volunteered to swim down and try to work to anchor free.. Well she never came back up .. So i had to cut the rope .. That was a damn good anchor to close to 200 bucks .

I drill a hole in the crown and attach the chain there with a shackle, then run the chain down the shank and attach the chain with a 100lb stainless steel zip tie. Should the anchor hang I can use the boat to break the zip tie at the shank and pull the anchor out from the rear by the crown.

Don't forget to setup a trip line..
use a safety wire to secure your clevis pins so they can't back out

For any "newby" boat people maybe ending with showing how you would attach to a boat would help us who are just learning about all this stuff.
I would recommend you use 100% Nylon rode and not poly! the difference being nylon will stretch and poly wont! nylon is about 10x stronger than poly for the same diameter.
what's the size of the shrink tube that you used?

How come you didn't rig this to break away? Your asking to get this anchor stuck time and time again.
I dont as rule lose my anchors..ive lost one in 20 years..so i dont really see the need for a break away for me and the style of fishing that i do .

Question do you know anyone who is sailing a used trailer for a 21 ft cuddle cabin boat my trailer is homemade one and it is gone. Both my axles are gone the hubs are shot and it's just it's just a complete mess

The zip ties and shrink tube defeat the purpose of an anchor hitch knot.....the ropes tension tightens the knot and retains the strength of the doubled rope around the clevis....using the zipties and shrink tube I would imagine weakens the knot point to about 50%...

im that guy that didn't use pliers to tighten the shackle to the anchor and saw it fly off my bow roller. ****note to all never hand tighten an anchor
