I'm 19 and I weigh 330lbs. I've been depressed almost all my life, since I was a kid. I've been bullied, told I'd never do anything with my life, been told no one is ever going to want me. I really did try losing weight, I tried exercise, dieting, and other forms of weight loss but I always seem to fall back to my old habits. It's not as easy as people think. I want to change my life, I no longer want to be the fat girl in my group of pretty friends, the one that no one talks to and everyone makes fun of. I don't want to be depressed anymore. I don't want to be unhealthy and obese all my life. So after contemplating so many months, I've decided to get this surgery for my own good. Your video really honestly made me tear up, you're a strong person (: and you look beautiful and much happier now. I want to be happy too and I'll be having my surgery in a couple months, I'm dedicated to get healthy and STAY healthy, wish me luck on my journey (:

you have an amazing story ,I am 20 days post op the sleeve at midnight and have not actually been weighed yet due to missing my post op appointment ,but I am anxious to know the amount lost I began this journey 1 year ago having to do 12 months of diet documentation and it flew by .The experience for me was horrible because of pain but once your home the healing begins .you have been the what to watch in my home since i found you 4 days ago and i feel so encouraged by your journey I am looking forward to finding the girl inside that i know dwells there ,I keep catching glimpses of her in the mirror and cant wait to meet up with her
Dear Lauren, I just came upon your story and I am so inspired by what you have done. I had been "mildly thinking" about WLS for 4 years, but this past August I began the process. Like you, I have been overweight my whole life, however I am much older then you are. I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago and I have been losing the same 45 pounds for years and years! A yo-yo process for a long time. I am now planning surgery for the end of January 2015. I will be having the bypass. Listening to you and hearing about your journey and seeing how beautiful you are (by the way, you were beautiful at 267lbs also!) gives me such a huge boost of encouragement. THANK YOU!! I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS!! I am 3 weeks post op and I've lost 40lbs already!! I am amazed at how I feel, the changes I'm already seeing; being able to walk better, I can breath better and sleep better!

I finally made the decision last night to get weight loss surgery. It has been on my list but I think I was scared and too proud to ask for that help. Now, a diabetic with a liver disease, I'm realizing no matter how much I am insecure about surgery, I want to feel alive again , and everything you said in the beginning video, I feel the exact same. Thank you for posting this. Knowing one is not alone in how they feel/felt is incredibly reassuring. I had gastric bypass last week (sept 3) and I was 285 at 5"9. Having been in the obese category since I very young has taken a toll on my now 24 year-old self. To explain my reasoning to someone who has no clue as to what it's like being this large is tiring. It's good to know there are some people out there who understand fully.

Awesome ! Encouraging words ! Your video is the 1st one I watched. I am going to have weight loss surgery. I haven't always been overweight, but due to disability, chronic illnesses and chronic pain, I've gained a lot of weight and am hitting 230. I am 5'8and usually 140-150. I am soooo happy for you! You look great, and you look genuinely happy. I have just received my referral from my doctor to proceed with the counseling portion of my VSG. My journey is about to begin, and I cannot wait. I FINALLY look forward to the future with my children, my husband, my friends, with MYSELF. I am 5-6 and approximately 255lbs, my heaviest ever. I eat well, but can no longer get the exercise I need due to severe pain from Scoliosis and arthritis. This gives me hope that I TOO can lead a normal and comfortable life. Loved the video!

Lauren, You were beautiful before surgery, and you are even more beautiful now! I am 46 years old and have been fighting the weight battle for several years now. I have my first appointment next Tuesday for the information session. I am looking forward and hope that my insurance will approve it and that I can get the surgery as soon as possible, since I have high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, plantar faciitis, and fibromyalgia. Working out is not possible for me right now with my foot hurting so much, but one of my goals is to run in a race, and do one a mud run. I have about 100 lbs to lose, and I can't wait to start my new life! Thank you for sharing your story!

I Love, Love, Love how you articulated what WLS did for you. I agree 100% that it doesn't fix or change anything accept how much you are able to eat and the initial weight loss that goes with the surgery (my experience). I am 5 months post-op RNY. I wouldn't change a single thing except maybe doing it sooner. I am working on becoming a personal trainer and I start my masters program next month for my MBA. This journey does change your life and I thank you for sharing your journey.

Hi Lauren, listening to this video, I feel like I am looking in a mirror, I mean the exact same thing you're going through, I've struggled with my entire life too. I was sleeved 5/13 of this year and although I'm losing slowly, I'm pleased with this decision, and I wouldn't change it for the world. You choosing to do this is the best steps to take to becoming the person you what to be. I too have videos that I'm trying to build the courage to post. Lauren you are so amazing and such a huge inspiration to me! For the last few months I have been seriously considering talking to my Dr about having weight loss surgery so I have been searching videos and doing research. I found your videos to be so much help in making my decision. I am currently 280lbs and have lived all of my life overweight. I was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, PCOS, Depression, GAD and Panic Disorder. I know that having this kind of surgery will help me with many more of my issues too. Thank you for posting your journey, and more so helping me to really make my decision!
So happy for you Vicki! Just remember that WLS doesn't cure everything, you're going to have to do some self evaluations too, and focus on living a life that makes you proud of who you are. Set goals, and work towards them and don't live in that negative space in your head anymore. Best of luck!

im about to have surgery on the 29th of this month, i happened to stumble across your video and i just want to say hearing you talk about how you used to feel about being the fat girl and that when you look in the mirror thats not who you see. Wow! Your story is all to familiar for me because I'm going through the same things! I've decided to go through with the gastric sleeve and met with the surgeon this past week! I just need to stop smoking and have the nicotine out of my system 90 days which is pretty hard being that I'm a 2 pack a day addict...so I've started slowing waaaay down. The past couple days I've made a pack of cigarettes last 2 days and I'm just going to keep at it so I can have this surgery! I want to THANK YOU for posting this video it was a tear jercker I literally tiered up I was 271 at my highest. 250 on the day of surgery and now 220 only 6 weeks I had gastric bypass and by FAR! Just came across your video and the light bulb has gone off I just got my referral for WLS. For me this tool is a necessary given the obstacles of my illnesses its definately going to be a fight to the finish but I am a fighter and I know this is the drastic change needed to truly go out and LIVE my life. Lauren I just want to start off by saying thank you for posting this video. I feel like I'm looking at my self when you describe the depression and just tired of being over weight. I can't help but cry. I myself have been over weight my entire life.. I can't work out because it hurts. I have suffered with depression and I am thinking of having the surgery. I just got married and I wish to have children someday but I know I'm not healthy enough to even think to carry a Baby. Thank you again Lauren. Tomorrow I will be calling my dr. I am at the beginning of my weight loss journey after fighting my demons for many years, what kept me putting on the weight after losing 20 or so kgs each time was the fact I became pregnant and I now have 4 beautiful boys ranging in age from 12-2 but unfortunately with my last pregnancy my son was too big for my inner frame and a disc in my lower spine is now herniated so I am now disabled and struggle with everything especially walking. I am chronic pain all day everyday and want to use the surgery as a tool like you did to help me change my life. I have already put in place healthy eating, not skipping meals and drinking more water so its a start.. I see the surgeons in a month and cant wait to see where I end up.. so thank you!

I'm inspired to really do the surgery now. I have 2 months left to see my weight loss dr. and sleep study. I am currently lost my job and money is running out but my health is wealth so I will stick it out for 2 more months. I have learned a lot form watching and listening as you express your thoughts. Also thanks for taking time out to make the videos. I am having the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Dec 16th I just had my post op yesterday feeling excited and nervous all at the same time. Yes I am all set and ready to get started on my journey using this wonderful weight loss “tool” to help me get started. I have been carrying this 100 pound girl around with me for over twenty years. I can honestly say I have done all the diets you can name losing the weight then gaining it back and then some. This 100 pound girl needs to get off my back and waste away never to be seen again. I want to enjoy and live a healthier life finding and loving myself again. It hasn’t been easy making this decision my oldest daughter is very upset that I decided to do the surgery. She told me it is unhealthy and she will not support me “nor will she ever support me on this decision”. I know after going through the process including reading books going to support groups and talking to people who have had bariatric surgery I am ready. Not one person said they regretted having surgery only that they wish they had done it sooner. Please keep posting and I will keep watching.

congratulations on your weight loss and the hard road you took, people think surgery is cheating, but it isnt, its just another tool to success, its no easy road even with surgery, many many lifestyle changes, i too will be having the surgery some time soon and watching thos video has helped convince me its the right decision, thank you.
My husband and I are just now talking about me getting surgery. I've submited a profile with my local bariatric center and am waiting on hearing from them. But through the internet I really like the sleeve surgery, and I am in the same boat you were in at the beginning of your video (but i'm sitting at 367 in my 5'3 frame). My whole life I've been overweight and just wanted a chance to be in the body that actually fits me, who I am. I've tried every diet under the sun (maybe not them all, I haven't tried "eating the sun" haha) but nothing gives me the chance to make it a lifelong goal. My marriage and my quality of life are suffering so greatly and I just want a change. I pray to God that I'll be approved through insurance. I know a lot of people will question it and just say I'm taking the easy way out but as you said it's a tool. It's not a fix all for my problems. Thank you so much for posting this video. I'm inspired and hopeful that one day I'll be in the body that will give me the confidence to live the life I've always wanted (and my bucket list has the color run on it.)

Wow I had people tell me that's the easy way out I've been big all my life my heaviest weight was 275 and now I'm stuck on 250. I've tired all sources of diets which they did work, once I stop I've gained it right back. Seeing your story motives me to go for it. I am also in the progress for my weight loss surgery.

Lauren, I just watched your vid and wanted to say awesome job. I wouldn't mind doing the surgery but my medical sucks and I'm not able to work due to chronic ongoing back pain/disc disease. The depression sucks, and being a single mom it gets hard to put that "I'm ok face" on daily. .. Congrats to you keep up the great work.. Having Vsg in July can't wait. Going through overall health and physical, hormone tests now to make sure I will be healthy plus know everything else is ok so not to hinder my weight loss journey. You look awesome. Very inspiring and thank you. Please everyone have hormones checked as well before surgery if you can, if anything is out of balance it can keep you from losing last 20-30 lbs to reach goal weight. You would be surprised how many have thyroid issues yet have no idea of it.

Hi Lauren, I really want to thank you for sharing this video. I was great really. I just started my nutritionist appointments. I am just waiting to get approve and move on. I feel like everything you said is how I feel in this instant. I am a strong independent young women but when it comes to my looks and my inner happiness I am not. I have struggle with my weight since I can remember. My family come from a Puerto Rican background in where if to all most people are overweight. I know that once I loose the weight I will be able to do everything I want to educational and personal. Weight is definitely stopping me from that. I feel similar about the weight loss surgery many people in my circle say stuck like "you don't need surgery" or "who loves you loves you no matter what" and it just like you said they are not in my shoes to know what is doing to my life. you have an amazing story ,I am 20 days post op the sleeve at midnight and have not actually been weighed yet due to missing my post op appointment ,but I am anxious to know the amount lost I began this journey 1 year ago having to do 12 months of diet documentation and it flew by .The experience for me was horrible because of pain but once your home the healing begins .you have been the what to watch in my home since i found you 4 days ago and i feel so encouraged by your journey I am looking forward to finding the girl inside that i know dwells there ,I keep catching glimpses of her in the mirror and cant wait to meet up with her
Dear Lauren, I just came upon your story and I am so inspired by what you have done. I had been "mildly thinking" about WLS for 4 years, but this past August I began the process. Like you, I have been overweight my whole life, however I am much older then you are. I was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago and I have been losing the same 45 pounds for years and years! A yo-yo process for a long time. I am now planning surgery for the end of January 2015. I will be having the bypass. Listening to you and hearing about your journey and seeing how beautiful you are (by the way, you were beautiful at 267lbs also!) gives me such a huge boost of encouragement. THANK YOU!! I finally made the decision last night to get weight loss surgery. It has been on my list but I think I was scared and too proud to ask for that help. Now, a diabetic with a liver disease, I'm realizing no matter how much I am insecure about surgery, I want to feel alive again , and everything you said in the beginning video, I feel the exact same. Thank you for posting this. Knowing one is not alone in how they feel/felt is incredibly reassuring. I had gastric bypass last week (sept 3) and I was 285 at 5"9. Having been in the obese category since I very young has taken a toll on my now 24 year-old self. To explain my reasoning to someone who has no clue as to what it's like being this large is tiring. It's good to know there are some people out there who understand fully.

I haven't always been overweight, but due to disability, chronic illnesses and chronic pain, I've gained a lot of weight and am hitting 230. I am 5'8and usually 140-150. My BMI is now 35, so my doctors consider me a candidate since we have tried everything and nothing is working. Congratulations on your success and good luck on your journey! God Bless You!

I am soooo happy for you! You look great, and you look genuinely happy. I have just received my referral from my doctor to proceed with the counseling portion of my VSG. My journey is about to begin, and I cannot wait. I FINALLY look forward to the future with my children, my husband, my friends, with MYSELF. I am 5-6 and approximately 255lbs, my heaviest ever. I eat well, but can no longer get the exercise I need due to severe pain from Scoliosis and arthritis. This gives me hope that I TOO can lead a normal and comfortable life. Loved the video!

Lauren, You were beautiful before surgery, and you are even more beautiful now! I am 46 years old and have been fighting the weight battle for several years now. I have my first appointment next Tuesday for the information session. I am looking forward and hope that my insurance will approve it and that I can get the surgery as soon as possible, since I have high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, plantar faciitis, and fibromyalgia. Working out is not possible for me right now with my foot hurting so much, but one of my goals is to run in a race, and do one a mud run. I have about 100 lbs to lose, and I can't wait to start my new life! Thank you for sharing your story!

I Love, Love, Love how you articulated what WLS did for you. I agree 100% that it doesn't fix or change anything accept how much you are able to eat and the initial weight loss that goes with the surgery (my experience). I am 5 months post-op RNY. I wouldn't change a single thing except maybe doing it sooner. I am working on becoming a personal trainer and I start my masters program next month for my MBA. This journey does change your life and I thank you for sharing your journey.

Hi Lauren, listening to this video, I feel like I am looking in a mirror, I mean the exact same thing you're going through, I've struggled with my entire life too. I was sleeved 5/13 of this year and although I'm losing slowly, I'm pleased with this decision, and I wouldn't change it for the world. You choosing to do this is the best steps to take to becoming the person you what to be. I too have videos that I'm trying to build the courage to post. Lauren you are so amazing and such a huge inspiration to me! For the last few months I have been seriously considering talking to my Dr about having weight loss surgery so I have been searching videos and doing research. I found your videos to be so much help in making my decision. I am currently 280lbs and have lived all of my life overweight. I was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, PCOS, Depression, GAD and Panic Disorder. I know that having this kind of surgery will help me with many more of my issues too. Thank you for posting your journey, and more so helping me to really make my decision!
So happy for you Vicki! Just remember that WLS doesn't cure everything, you're going to have to do some self evaluations too, and focus on living a life that makes you proud of who you are. Set goals, and work towards them and don't live in that negative space in your head anymore. Best of luck!

Wow! Your story is all to familiar for me because I'm going through the same things! I've decided to go through with the gastric sleeve and met with the surgeon this past week! I just need to stop smoking and have the nicotine out of my system 90 days which is pretty hard being that I'm a 2 pack a day addict...so I've started slowing waaaay down. The past couple days I've made a pack of cigarettes last 2 days and I'm just going to keep at it so I can have this surgery! I want to thank you for taking the time to make these videos because you're helping so many people! So once again, THANKS and I am so proud of you and all that you have achieved!!

Just came across your video and the light bulb has gone off I just got my referral for WLS. For me this tool is a necessary given the obstacles of my illnesses its definately going to be a fight to the finish but I am a fighter and I know this is the drastic change needed to truly go out and LIVE my life. Lauren I just want to start off by saying thank you for posting this video. I feel like I'm looking at my self when you describe the depression and just tired of being over weight. I can't help but cry. I myself have been over weight my entire life.. I can't work out because it hurts. I have suffered with depression and I am thinking of having the surgery. I just got married and I wish to have children someday but I know I'm not healthy enough to even think to carry a Baby. Thank you again Lauren. Tomorrow I will be calling my dr. I am at the beginning of my weight loss journey after fighting my demons for many years, what kept me putting on the weight after losing 20 or so kgs each time was the fact I became pregnant and I now have 4 beautiful boys ranging in age from 12-2 but unfortunately with my last pregnancy my son was too big for my inner frame and a disc in my lower spine is now herniated so I am now disabled and struggle with everything especially walking. I am chronic pain all day everyday and want to use the surgery as a tool like you did to help me change my life. I have already put in place healthy eating, not skipping meals and drinking more water so its a start.. I see the surgeons in a month and cant wait to see where I end up.. so thank you!

I'm inspired to really do the surgery now. I have 2 months left to see my weight loss dr. and sleep study. I am currently lost my job and money is running out but my health is wealth so I will stick it out for 2 more months. I don't even think I can fit into a suit to go on an interview since I weigh almost 300lbs. the most I have every weighed in my life. Im sure the extra 40lbs that my body has never seen is due to job loss and depression. I am determined to loose the weight his time and keep it off. Thanks for the video.

I have learned a lot form watching and listening as you express your thoughts. Also thanks for taking time out to make the videos. I am having the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Dec 16th I just had my post op yesterday feeling excited and nervous all at the same time. Yes I am all set and ready to get started on my journey using this wonderful weight loss “tool” to help me get started. I have been carrying this 100 pound girl around with me for over twenty years. I can honestly say I have done all the diets you can name losing the weight then gaining it back and then some. This 100 pound girl needs to get off my back and waste away never to be seen again. I want to enjoy and live a healthier life finding and loving myself again. It hasn’t been easy making this decision my oldest daughter is very upset that I decided to do the surgery. She told me it is unhealthy and she will not support me “nor will she ever support me on this decision”. I know after going through the process including reading books going to support groups and talking to people who have had bariatric surgery I am ready. Not one person said they regretted having surgery only that they wish they had done it sooner. Please keep posting and I will keep watching.

My husband and I are just now talking about me getting surgery. I've submited a profile with my local bariatric center and am waiting on hearing from them. But through the internet I really like the sleeve surgery, and I am in the same boat you were in at the beginning of your video (but i'm sitting at 367 in my 5'3 frame). My whole life I've been overweight and just wanted a chance to be in the body that actually fits me, who I am. I've tried every diet under the sun (maybe not them all, I haven't tried "eating the sun" haha) but nothing gives me the chance to make it a lifelong goal. My marriage and my quality of life are suffering so greatly and I just want a change. I pray to God that I'll be approved through insurance. I know a lot of people will question it and just say I'm taking the easy way out but as you said it's a tool. It's not a fix all for my problems. Thank you so much for posting this video. I'm inspired and hopeful that one day I'll be in the body that will give me the confidence to live the life I've always wanted (and my bucket list has the color run on it.)

Wow I had people tell me that's the easy way out I've been big all my life my heaviest weight was 275 and now I'm stuck on 250. I've tired all sources of diets which they did work, once I stop I've gained it right back. Seeing your story motives me to go for it. I am also in the progress for my weight loss surgery.

Having Vsg in July can't wait. Going through overall health and physical, hormone tests now to make sure I will be healthy plus know everything else is ok so not to hinder my weight loss journey. You look awesome. Very inspiring and thank you. Please everyone have hormones checked as well before surgery if you can, if anything is out of balance it can keep you from losing last 20-30 lbs to reach goal weight. You would be surprised how many have thyroid issues yet have no idea of it.

I really want to thank you for sharing this video. I was great really. I just started my nutritionist appointments. I am just waiting to get approve and move on. I feel like everything you said is how I feel in this instant. I am a strong independent young women but when it comes to my looks and my inner happiness I am not. I have struggle with my weight since I can remember. My family come from a Puerto Rican background in where if to all most people are overweight. I know that once I loose the weight I will be able to do everything I want to educational and personal. Weight is definitely stopping me from that. I feel similar about the weight loss surgery many people in my circle say stuck like "you don't need surgery" or "who loves you loves you no matter what" and it just like you said they are not in my shoes to know what is doing to my life. Thank you for the inspiration. I want to be that person, a happy one, not just feel good but be healthy. I need that. And I will do it.
