I bought a 07 XK as my daily last year (partly because of your videos) and what I can say is, that here in germany the prestige you get in a Jaguar is way over the average cars driving around. Not as high like an Aston Martin, but people who don‘t know much about cars would put both brands on the same level. Last week a mother said to her child „don‘t step too close to that car, that costs 250000€“ well, I‘m not sure if this was seriously. 😅 Maybe because XK‘s here are generally more expensive than in the UK.

I read a great old review that basically said, if you want a sportier ride and want the badge get the Aston.....But...if you want to drive from Southampton to the south of France in style and COMFORT...get the Jag.
For me, there is no doubt about the extra cool factor of the Aston....but I just love the comfort of my 5.0 XK Jag.
Also, here in NYC, the XK (and F-type) is much rarer than the Maseratis, which are all over (like the AMGs and BMW Ms--literally everywhere)...and so have a high cool factor.

I’ve always loved Jags and was a very happy owner of a 2012 XKR but ‘traded up’ to an Aston largely because of the cachet associated with the brand. Not regretted it. Yet.

Not really sure what I'd go for myself, as I haven't driven either of the cars. The running costs of the Aston would be a worry, but then again, you only live once and you don't always have to be sensible in life, do you?

XKR vs DB9 would have been a fairer comparison

As a car, yes, maybe. But would it be possible to get a DB9 of more or less the same era in the same price range?

@@tedpalmer1537 that's my point a bit. Early ones would go back to 2007? Interesting thought though: would a potential buyer flip a coin between an early DB9 or a late XK? Line them up, beardy! :)

I will be comparing the DB9 to XKR in future (when I finally arrange a DB9 for the channel) but one of the main issues is the price comparison. A DB9 in the same range as a good XKR is much higher mileage and much more of a risk

@BEARDS 'n CARS A v6 F-Type would be a good comparison to the Vantage. Similar size and power. Also available with a manual, although rare.
