This is something I do not understand, at least from an American perspective. What is the concern for plates? In the U.S., unless you order vanity or cause plates, no one cares, and certainly would not pay $$ to replace standard plates. OK, I am done now, thank you!

I had one same year. Rust is a problem. One thing I should mention to any prospective buyer which is never mention in buyers guides, always check the heater blows hot air. The heater has its own 12V booster pump. They go wrong not especially expensive. However official jaguar way to change it is to remove the gearbox. It can be done by removing the inlet manifold, a bit fiddley but possible

I had this edition. A beautiful black XKR with all the extras..it seemed like a Bond car and in my opinion the most beautiful modern Jaguar. Both adults and kids turned their heads when it went by, the later one didn't do that. I sold it mostly because I didn't fit, even on the lowest setting my head touched the roof, beware if you're around 6,2 or 187cm . Why did they make it with such a low roof for the driver? Pity.

The guy just wanted it moved so we agreed to take it for nothing. Gave him a nice bottle of wine. 300 euros grua back to La Linea and we've had it ever since. Interior is poor although the roof works fine and it runs well. Recently bought an XK8 shell with nice interior so we're going to swap that out and then ...... probably leave it sitting where it is for another 2 years or more!!! Thats the world of projects ....

I own a very late model X100 XKR and I understand what Matt means. The car looks absolutely stunning, no question. But it falls between two (or three) stools as we say. It is very quick in a straight line, and handles high speed bends well, especially on sports suspension. But the steering, autobox and sheer weight mean it is not a country lane hustler.
It is very comfortable for a long run, but so are lots of modern cars that have better equipment such as Apple Carplay. Plus modern cars spoil us for fuel consumption.
But it sounds amazing - especially with a decent exhaust such as an Adamesh!
And did I say it looks gorgeous?

Interestingly, you mention engine and gearbox servicing. One of the many faults mine had was the gearbox. My local Jaguar main dealer wouldn't carry out a gearbox service at my request stating they are sealed for life units?? The gearbox was the reason I finally sold the car on for parts for £1500.
I may be wrong, but your faultless Jag might need a new aerial. It shouldn't sit partway extended with the engine off.

Agree with you about the colour combo looks great - I notice you don't make any "Werthers" quips about Jaguar's these days?🙂 The original XK & XKR had the underpinnings of the old XJS that date back to the 70's so I think it is now very much a modern classic whereas the series 2 could still be a daily driver and I think I prefer the looks (slightly) of the later model. Another great video Matt! Love the channel, just curious why you didn't end up changing the plates for the old font? On a Y it could've come with the new font from the start in fairness, but I agree the wide font does add a touch of retro class.

I miss my XJS as it had the bullet proof 4.0 litre engine and lovely comfortable suspension. I thought about the XKR and XK8 but the amount up for sale with issues was a worry plus you have the Ford buttons. The leather on that car does look lovely though, it's aged really well.

A one owner, Pampered 50K mile XKR and it needed welding! These really are rot boxes as they use the old 1970's XJS platform, I bought a XK8 cheap from a mate but gave up on it as it was just rotten, Ended up selling it to a Polish guy who shipped it home but i made a nice ££ profit on it!

"Something strange happened on the drive back.." thought you were going to say that you had an urge to stop and buy some Werther's Original and sign up to the National Trust 😅
Refurb the wheels definitely added to the stance and looks.

.....love the fact a bit of welding doesn't faze you. I bought my absolute dream car a Fulvia Zagato but when it turned up from the restorer I just didn't feel it. Sold it before my significant other even saw it....!! Now I'm thinking, the French designers really seem to be producing lovely modern designs these days and how good Toyota's warranty is.....🙀🙊🙈

I want one so bad, and an old Range Rover Sport , and an old Range Rover Vogue, and an XJ6, and an XJS. Sadly I'm retired and skint. I did when I had some money own an XJS 3.6 manual for 10yrs and loved it. Also a Rover P5B V8 Coupe in the 70's. When my premium bonds hit the jackpot I'll give HPA a call?

Really enjoyed the video Matt. Beautiful car. For what it’s worth I think £12995 was too cheap. But you know best to be fair

Hi Matt, Shame about the Jag not floating your boat. Could you let us know the end results of your video cars, maybe a short aftermath video, does not have to include final deal price if your not happy with that aspect.

These are gorgious cars, along with its sister car the Aston DB7 with which I am sure it shares a chassis. Back in the day I am surprised these did not sell a lot more as they were quite unique. I heard they had a problem with sulphur in the fuel back then damaging the nikasil bore liner coating and causing issues.

Shame. I had one and loved it. Manually select the gears on the J shift and it revs lovely and can even upgrade the exhaust and suspension as it is quite soft even on the XKR but is such a lovely ride as a GT

Thanks for this - a great start to my birthday. Off to Cheltenham for the day next in my 2014 xk dynamic r convertible - shame the weather is as per your video! If I had 2 garages I'd have paid you a visit - that coupe looks gorgeous!

Personally, I would keep it. It doesn't owe you much. This is a true gentleman's conveyance and you know full well you won't find another. If you sell it, you'll be sorry, even if that is your how you pay your bills...

I feel the original owners pain having to move to an E-Pace, but when the old bones cannot shoehorn into a 2 Door Coupe…………..it’s time to change to the sensible slippers!

Matt, just let my 1996 xk8 ( Sherwood. Green / Beige leather) go…beautiful car, but it was time. The unseen rot internal of both sill is always a factor, however it still broke my heart to see it go.
