Agree 100% on buying into whichever city you move to! I'm on year 4 of not buying in and working remotely, and haven't made any real friends. It's rough on the mental for sure. Plus when you think about it, whether you plan to stay a long time or not is kind of irrelevant, because even if you stay, you never know when other people will move away on you.
Oh interesting, where are you moving from and to? I would check with a cross border accountant before you move you can take advantage of some tax stuff
@ that’s a great shout! Thank you! I definitely should, cause I’m going to have to move money out of my tax free investment account for sure. I’m moving from the UK to Calgary, as long as my relocation request gets approved this month.
Idk about UK Laws but in the US some of the retirement accounts can be carried over to Canada, so I would check that. You might also might be able to bring your taxable investments to Canada and get a free adjusted cost basis bump. I have a video on my channel about how to do that for the USA side if u want to check it out
I feel like there is a grass is always greener aspect to this too, like i made the inverted decision of staying close to home in toronto as a software engineer instead of going to the US and after a few years im starting to crave that US TC.
I’ve grown up outside of Seattle my entire life, and still live here now as a 23 year old, with my family, working as a SWE I also am doing long distance with my gf, and feel mentally not very happy/feeling lonely and have been thrown off my routine (I also travel pretty often to visit my gf) I’m living at home to save lots of money and focus on my finances. But lately I’ve really felt the need to move out or move to a different city to shake things up. Although that requires a new job as well Not sure what to do but it’s getting to the point where I feel like I need to act soon or else it will keep getting worse. Though it does make me feel better that I’m not alone
oh man video after 2 month, that means you were really going through a lot. On the opposite when I came back and now living at home I feel all of the things you just said, I feel I am missing out on all of things I can do in the world. Again Complete limbo. Hope we can find some place and call it peace and enjoy life
I think this is something unique to the states, since the US is so large there are many opportunities in other states. In Canada majority of my friends from high school / university have stayed in the same province ( province = states ).
I know you're not moving back to Canada yet, but when you do, it would be nice if you can make a video on how you handled your finances and taxes after moving back.
Will do! There is a another vid I have on my channel about adjusting your cost basis when going home but will do a full walk through when I eventually go home
ive lived in seattle for 6 years now...seattle is filled with monotonous techies. aside from summer season, this place doesn't offer much imo. the city is dead during Thanksgiving and Christmas times. people are cold just like the weather, or they become cold and desensitized because of their workplace. it's city filled with lonely people.
Sigh I can definitely relate to what you are saying. I moved away from Toronto a few months ago to California as a Nurse and it gets so lonely here. Btw have you gotten your GC yet?
Not gotten it yet, still waiting. And congrats on your new role in California! It’s a tough transition for sure, hopefully you can take some things away from my experience
Seattle is a sausage fest. Unless you are already married, it's really bad here. It's good for making money not good for meeting women. Even 50 year olds get alot of matches.

Yeah totally agree, something that I didn’t really fully think out until I left unfortunately.
@ I feel you! I only thought of it after seeing your video, and because I’m heading back to Canada in a few months too

Thanks for sharing your experiences, you gave some incredible advice! Excited for the next chapter of your life:)
Thanks king
2:05 totally agree peace is not a place on earth, it’s a state of mind within your own mind. ❤
Big fax, a lot of it is a mental game
Great reflection! Best of luck on your journey :)
Thanks 🫶

Yeah it’s a hard decision either way, especially since right after school when everyone is doing their own thing
Great video, excited for your next chapter!

Really appreciate the kind words 🫶🫶 I was mostly traveling tho. Ready for this new chapter
really insightful vid Khang
Respects scriptorpher
I feel like this after living in Tijuana, Mexico, for almost 2 years.
That’s sucks to hear, I hope that you find what’s right for you 🫶
So many people leave Seattle this day after high school all of my friends just moved to different states. Sad

@@khangaroofinance Looking forward to it! As a new grad, your videos were immensely helpful :)
🫶 respects bro
pretty common to move back to canada eventually, lots of tech dudes coming outta canada but eventually we all gotta go back, get that paper though
Yeah can’t imagine raising kids so far from my family
Sir how many years of experience do you have as a software engineer? Please reply. Thanks a lot.

I haven’t lived as long so you would have much more perspective, but I agree with your summary, the nature is crazy tho
Sir do you earn 200k dollars a year as a software engineer in usa now? Please reply in yes or no. Thanks a lot.
My compensation hovers around there yes
Do you already have a job lined up in Toronto?
Should have clarified, not moving back to Toronto, still in the US. And moving with my job
Sigh I can definitely relate to what you are saying. I moved away from Toronto a few months ago to California as a Nurse and it gets so lonely here. Btw have you gotten your GC yet?

Make a video how that interferes in your green card process and other visa related stuff.
I’ve got some on my channel but will make more
well said
Thanks bro
You didn't say where you're actually moving.. but good video regardless
It’s a surprise 😉
Did you move because you hated your roommate?
Yes
Were you giving hints that your next video is "Why I'm leaving my girlfriend"? lolol.
😂😂 nah lol
Why don’t u just move back home especially if u miss ur family and have a girlfriend there?
I think about that a lot too. Unfortunately for Canadian salaries many US companies will drastically cut your pay to meet market rate in Canada.
Seattle is a sausage fest. Unless you are already married, it's really bad here. It's good for making money not good for meeting women. Even 50 year olds get alot of matches.
You make no clear points and you are lost.
Sometimes you need to read into emotions than just words. 😬
@@hemantsurale ???? Everyone has emotions......
@ but only a few with 'emotional damage'.
Sir do you earn 250k dollars a year as a software engineer? Please reply. Thanks a lot.
