It's a boxers strategy, pretend to be strong when weak and pretend to be weak when strong. Tony acted like he was on the defense to lure him in when he started to quote his report dialog. Director David went in for the kill but Tony knew he could make him emotional by being a smart ass and played those cards while being able to take his shot with asking him the one important question. when writing excellence and performance excellence marry each other - is a thing of beauty. Make no mistake, this is storytelling at it's best - somebody wrote the progression of this conversation to lead to an inevitable conclusion that would be both entertaining, believable, and powerful. But, the best writing in the world falters if the performers don't perform, and Michael Weatherly (sp?) performs. I think a thank you is in order to the film crew that shot this scene and made us feel like we were in the room with a seat at the table... ...something Dick Wolf understood during Law & Order. ...something the showrunners at CSI Miami forgot during season 3 when they started shooting interrogation scenes from across a hallway with a prism on a file cabinet... because someone liked how the light shined in their eyes. Like they got bored with actually filming performances. Here, the scene isn't filled with gadget shots or 720 degree rotation shots like West Wing did to show they could. They just let the performance be the focus. Amazing how many shows forget to do that.

Gibbs on so many difficult occasions praised DiNozzo and held him to the highest regard, it was usually done in Tony’s absence. Off the top of my head the scenes I remember which Gibbs held him to high regard was when: 1. Ari infiltrated NCIS and Gibbs said to Tony I want someone I trust to be at the top and run things 2. When he called him his loyal St. Bernard when Director Shepherd was asking for a status update from the team and Tony was the last to cave in 3. When Tony was in Baltimore PD and came across Gibbs for the first time and Gibbs told him he doesn’t waste good so encouraged him to apply as NCIS agent 4. When Maddie Taylor and Gibbs reversed back into the water and Tony singlehandedly took everyone down and saved both of their lives. Gibbs knew Tony would find him and back him up 5. When Tony inhaled the powder from the letter in SWAK episode and Gibbs was looking through the camera to see who was there since they left office the night before and saw Tony come back. He gave a proud grin and said “he does his best work at night” 6. When he left Tony in charge of the team when he quit 7. When Tony had enough and asked for Gibbs to start finding Ziva and orchestrated everything. Gibbs didn’t lash out at him and respected his stance 8. When DiNozzo senior and Gibbs met for the first time and Gibbs asked about their relationship and praised DiNozzo that he is the best agent he ever worked with I’m sure there are many more that I have forgotten over the years but there is no doubt throughout the show that Gibbs’ right hand man has always been DiNozzo
When he said "You have no seen one of our interrogation rooms, but if you continue with these childish antics, I promise, you will." That was quite intimidating. I have to say, *I* was intimidated.

These scenes with Ziva's father were NCIS gold. Life didn't get better than this for this story/show. I would look forward to whenever the Israelis would show up and especially when it involved Eli. You would know that things are about to hit the fan in a big way. It would also be a great time for Vance to shine because he was so closely tied with Eli. The show just didn't GET bigger than this. And sadly, it never will again.
This resonates so much with me. The show was at its high point during those days.
one special Israeli is back ;)
Good times. Don't know why writers like Jesse Stern didn't run things more after sn7, he once told me he worked too hard on that season.
I agree. He, Franks, and Fornell are what helped make the show great as well. You have to have great guest characters on a great show.
Tony's look into the camera was the ultimate microphone drop. Bam! Johnny F'ing Chan!
I love that scene. So many times in that series, people made fun of Tony or didn't take him seriously and most of the time they would make them pay dearly for it. Gibbs may have been the father figure, but Tony was the heart of the NCIS team. The show was never the same after he left.
The look that Tony gives at 03:51 is priceless.
You got realize how bad ass scene is Tony is only NCIS Agent or anybody could take on King of Mossad one Eli David and Ziva dad
Too bad he is dead I want see that family dinner
Did...did you have a stroke
Leon's "Well, I'll be damned" at the end. Priceless.
I never realized this before. But seeing as Tony is created as a movie nut, this is clearly him using A Few Good Men on Director David.
You can’t handle the truth ❤️
Tony's finest moment.
MakeMeThinkAgain one of many
@Lesevesel Gibbs is always proud of him and, as he once said, he would trust him anytime.
Truth or Consequences....
One of the best writing and acting in NCIS history. All in 4 minutes!
This is why he is a very special Agent.
I second that Leon "Well I'll be damned!" And well played Dinozzo
The director of Mossad interrogating the future father of his granddaughter
Tragically, Eli died before his granddaughter was conceived. Death has followed the David family like a shadow.
Ziva really got the short end of it.
She has a daughter, but her father, mother, sister, and half-brother are in the ground already. Did she have any family left?
This is their version of Tony asking Eli's permission to marry his daughter.
A knockout blow from a wounded fighter.
i like how no one ever mentions the fact that rivkin was told to leave many times by ncis and that tony told rivkin to stop when he pulled the glass out of himself and tony even tried to save his life
it certainly was in the report that Ziva (by her own words) memorized.
It was a Mossad operative killed by a US federal agent after resisting lawful arrest by said federal agent for murdering another US federal agent in the process of spying on a top-secret US security meeting. That had the potential to cause an international explosion of political nightmare.
ziva's dad might be evil, but at least he's smart enough to know tony likes ziva.
Even Helen Keller could see that.
Eli David wasn't evil. He had some rogue motives, but rogue and evil aren't nearly the same.
@@dhinton1 using your own kid as a weapon from birth is pretty evil
3/2020: Ah, I saw the clip and INSTANTLY remembered this episode....Weatherly OWNED this role and it was epic ....
Michaels Nouri/Weatherly both played each other off brilliantly : if evidence were needed why NCIS is so successful, this is one of many reasons - priceless!.
This is a damn good scene, in the end it show Vance that Tony was very, very good at what he does!
Seasons 6-10 where golden for this show. It died off after that but my goodness the cast and the storylines during those years where the reason is had (and even still has) high ratings.
And Jesse penned one heck of a 7th season. Just outstanding!
@@vb8428 who is jesse?
@@rcmanization Jesse Stern. He has written some video games. He left after sn8, started as a small writer on some episodes but was the showrunner season 7 & 8.
He wrote a lot of sn7 episodes, there's just something special about his dialogue and stories

Revisiting iconic Tiva scenes since ZIVA IS BACK YA'LL
Tony is a little bit sharper and ballsy than Vance gives him credit for.
at this point ..... a LOT more so.
you hafta remember ... this was a year after the "protection detail assignment" that ended Director Shepard's life. so, Director Vance was still figuring Tony out himself.
@@dhinton1Where Shepard directed Tony & Ziva away from a firefight.
Vance:well I'll be damned. This is my favourite line in this scene. But Dinozzo has a way with people I'll give him that :D
when writing excellence and performance excellence marry each other - is a thing of beauty. I love watching content and execution combine forces, and NCIS has a lot of that, which is one of the reasons I keep coming back to the show over and over again.
Leon's reaction is the best!!!
alberto sandoval cuevas Yes well I'll be dammed lol he saw DiNozzo make the comeback!!!!!

Like Tony said to the soldier/ terrorist when they were being held captive trying to rescue Ziva, "I'm the wild card...".
Wouldn't a more correct titel to this video be "Tony interrogates Eli David"?:)
amalie Point taken and Eli fell for it and realize it until it was too late.
The moment Leon was truly impressed with Tony.
Tony is a bit of a womanizer, an annoying movie nut, but his mind is as sharp as anyone in NCIS. *Cries* COME BACK TO US TONY
May be my favorite scene from the entire run of the show. Love how Tony kicks his ... Like later how Eli says I underestimated your Agent DiNozzo.
William McMahon you got that shot ?
"Just tell him 'Agent Meatball' says hi."
"He would not be joking with you if he did not like you, Tony, believe me."

I swear Eli was more soulless then Ari in one episode he Eli told Leon Gibbs is a thief taking his daughter away if I was Gibb I tell Eli I DIDN'T TAKE ZIVA YOU DROVE HER AWAY
You turned her against me!
You have done that yourself.
You will not take her from me!
Your anger and your lust for power have already done that.
Gibbs didn't hafta SAY it.
Eli figured it out himself.
Tony may act a goof, but he's greatly misjudged. He actually punked Director David like a professional and the Director fell for it. never under-estimate your opponent, no matter who they are, if you do, you end up regretting it.
he had warned him that it was gonna happen. but YES ... Eli David paid for underestimating Anthony DiNozzo Jr. That's why Eli could only chuckle when he realized that he had been checkmated by his OWN words.
What an excellent scene. A competent Tony is a hott Tony. Thanks for posting :)
This episode has always been one of my all-time favorites from the entire show, and this is one of the many moments as to why.
I think that Tony is always just hiding behind jokes and being funny, but he is a very smart and capable investigator. He is not silly, or stupid, it's just the way he works.
Eli David: They do as I say!😐
Dinozzo: Everyone? 😎
Eli David: Always! 😠
Ziva(watching the monitor)
😮🙁 Walks out of the room.
Gibbs:🙂(sips his coffee)☕
Vance: Well, I'll be damned.
😲🙂
3:52, that "See" Tony does to Ziva through the camera and by her reaction she didn't know her father send Rivking to kill her.
He didn’t send him there to Kill Ziva. He sent him there to kill Saleem by any means necessary
He sent him there to disgrace her and destroy her relationship with NCIS, forcing her to come home. She did. Then she gets captured by Saleem but NCIS are the ones who rescue her and the rest is history.
Ziva definitely didn't know that Rivkin was SENT to Ziva by her father.
@@andrewleah1983setting Ziva up as a secret terrorist. Or conspirator.
Dang, even Vance was surprised, that was AWESOME!!!
" your sarcasm is noted " - and eli´s face be like: shit, of all people out there she had to find him xD
Besides Weatherley's already great performance, it also fits tony's chararter so well, this scene is right out of a few good men. Fantastic writing
I think the loss of recurring characters like Eli David, Diane Fornell, CID Agent Mann, CGIS Agent Bourne... the loss of a showrunner, the loss of the writers that gave us storylines and backstories...
Missing Tony & Ziva is putting it too simply.
The tapestry was more complex back then.
This scene had multiple threads to it.
Director Vance was skeptical of DiNozzo until this point.
Director David clearly underestimated Tony... who was proving a point to both his boss and Director David's daughter.
Gibbs's confidence in DiNozzo's skill at interrogation is not misplaced.
The mention of Ziva's half-brother, whom Ziva shot dead in the Gibbs basement, possibly taking orders from Ziva's father right up until his end... wonder if that had crossed her mind before Tony threw out his "You send all your Rogue Agents to D.C..." line...
Ziva appears to be angered by her father's unplanned admission... either because she's mad at herself for not trusting Tony to begin with or her father meddling in her career & personal life.
It's a complex scene... one that the show currently would be hard pressed to do now since the "back bench" needs reinforcements and the characters in play now have thin backstories compared to the David family.
Loved Tony. Show was never the same without him.
Dinozzo said it at the beginning one of his biggest roles at NCIS is as the interrogator. He knows all the tricks and he is good at his job
"So is your shirt. What is that: Zegna? Cavalli? Nice taste."
"If this about my Twitter page...I can get pretty chatty."
"Speaking of father, what kind of father would thrown an out-of-control assassin at his daughter?"
Tony NEVER let Eli gain any kind of control in this interrogation. He knows...every...trick in interrogation and in Eli's extreme hubris, blew him off.
My guy, Tony DiNozzo, ladies and gentlemen.
Well I guess Ziva's father will never like Tony, but he knows that Tony would die for Ziva and Tony would do anything for her
Eli did like Tony, especially after this. lol
"Its ok. I dig hanging out in concrete bunkers especially after 12 hour plane rides in cramped quarters.."
I dig*
30th time+ Ive seen this. The last part never gets old.
Idc what anyone says, this was the best era of NCIS. Gibbs Tony McGee Ziva Abby Ducky Palmer and Vance was my favorite tv team, I will miss it dearly
Considering Tony's badass sense....Can someone just try to picture an interrogation between GIBBS and Eli David?
Holy shit...
David wouldn't stand a chance. Gibbs is a Marine.
Id say it starts normal slowly trying to size eachother up only to ebd up brawling in the assembly room
Eli would be crying by the end and Gibbs just staring him down.
Reminds me of this joke, Officer Ziva David : Hmm... can Gibbs arrest God?
Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo : I don't know. That's sort of like The Thing trying to bring in The Hulk.
Tony's tactics are inch perfect. Talk about getting someone to fall on their own sword!
Tony was my favourite...I have not watched much since he left, but I do own all the DVD sets so my mom can watch still!
I love Tony and his attitude! haha
Tony is a master of the subtle art of being underestimated.
the truth comes out Daddy is the Bad guy and Rifkin was following orders
Isn't Eli's voice absolutely calming like it makes me want to fall asleep
Michael Nouri's voice is calming
Kyean Letofsky His voice?? How about his looks 💖..............
Yeah, it is ........ lol
He should be recording audio books with a voice like that.
Eli was a really enjoyable character to watch. This scene is great
This scene is the best scene of this season.
"The Dinozzo Method. It's not pretty but you gotta admire the results." - Gibbs
I still come back to this scene occasionally to bask in how good it feels to watch. Lol what a delicious "fuck you" moment from Tony to Eli.
grandpa questioning abba, tali should be freaked. aaahhhhh m miss them both of them. still watching it after years
NCIS is one of the few shows that creates intense characters in recurring roles.
Eli David's backstory, dolled out in little portions over several years, makes me miss such rich storytelling.
For 2 characters that never interacted directly much... this was a gripping scene.
i love when vance says well i'll be damned
The pinnacle of what was once the greatest show on Earth!
Leon should know that DiNozzo's smart ass attitude sticks to him in the immortal words of Leroy Jethro Gibbs ' An ex wife after a alimony check'
Good gracious I love Tony. He is such a BADASS!
Well I think that we can conclude that the father in law totally approved of his new son in law .Lmao
I really loved Tony he was my fav character and that's saying alot cuz they were all super awesome. Tiva pairing was just what I needed after Tate
I love watching this scene over and over, I always laugh when he traps Eli.
Dinozzo is a class clown and he knows how to use that to his advantage. This is a perfect example!
Even Eli is impressed.
Gibbs’s reaction for Eli saying something he like to hear, the truth (sarcastic) “oops”
Gibbs on so many difficult occasions praised DiNozzo and held him to the highest regard, it was usually done in Tony’s absence. Off the top of my head the scenes I remember which Gibbs held him to high regard was when:
1. Ari infiltrated NCIS and Gibbs said to Tony I want someone I trust to be at the top and run things
2. When he called him his loyal St. Bernard when Director Shepherd was asking for a status update from the team and Tony was the last to cave in
3. When Tony was in Baltimore PD and came across Gibbs for the first time and Gibbs told him he doesn’t waste good so encouraged him to apply as NCIS agent
4. When Maddie Taylor and Gibbs reversed back into the water and Tony singlehandedly took everyone down and saved both of their lives. Gibbs knew Tony would find him and back him up
5. When Tony inhaled the powder from the letter in SWAK episode and Gibbs was looking through the camera to see who was there since they left office the night before and saw Tony come back. He gave a proud grin and said “he does his best work at night”
6. When he left Tony in charge of the team when he quit
7. When Tony had enough and asked for Gibbs to start finding Ziva and orchestrated everything. Gibbs didn’t lash out at him and respected his stance
8. When DiNozzo senior and Gibbs met for the first time and Gibbs asked about their relationship and praised DiNozzo that he is the best agent he ever worked with
I’m sure there are many more that I have forgotten over the years but there is no doubt throughout the show that Gibbs’ right hand man has always been DiNozzo
#6 doesn't count, at that moment in time Gibbs had no clue who Tony DiNozzo was, he had to be told a few scenes before that he was his 2IC.
Awesome scene in quite a story-arc
When he said "You have no seen one of our interrogation rooms, but if you continue with these childish antics, I promise, you will." That was quite intimidating. I have to say, *I* was intimidated.
