  • A travelling main going it to alleviate some lateral drains that have been unable to cope through the very wet weather. This also gives the system a second route to the main ditch speeding up the field drainage.

No need to stone on the travelling main as it is only carrying the water from the laterals and it only does a bit of drainage itself. Barley difficult one, we drilled some at the start of March which was fine by calendar but not appeared yet, who would have thought that was going to happen this year or any other. I guess drilling now into soil that will warm up faster might even give a better yield.

Hi Jake, i see that you are not stoning the pipe before back filling, getting a bit late to be drilling barley,

I guess your drainage contractor is flat out like ours. We've repaired some, put new ones in but won't see the benefit till this back end. Land is in poor condition I think it wants to wave a White flag! Very little crop in the ground how's it looking down there now?
    How's lambing going?
