I was lucky enough to build 4 houses in Phoenix with my dad between when I was 5 until I was about 23. Some off the best times of my life. Cool to see how you guys work together. Brings back good memories for me. A 5 year old can pull wire thru an attic way better than an adult. 😅
I love watching you guys. I always learn something, but more so I watch because I love the relationship you have together. I lost my dad to cancer when I was just 20. Watching you two reminds me of doing projects with my dad when I was younger.
I find it both humbling and enriching that a father and son work together so lovingly...you are truly Blessed!!! My son and I work together as well, but it is ALWAYS the peaches and cream that you two have going on...at least on camera ;). Congratulations to both of you....and Paul, give Jordan more work IN FRONT of the camera!!!!
I used to work with my dad years ago in finish carpentry before I stepped off on my own and enlisted. Watching this channel brought back good memories.
If you work your way left around the room you can cope the other end and not have to cut it upsides down. Not saying your doing it wrong. Also we cut from the top so our wrist isnt at and awkward angle. Love you guys.
I’m amazed that I always learn something from your videos, but this time I learned two.... 1: Painting the metal track black was genius. I will be doing that to a pocket I already installed. 2: I’ll be reversing one of the sets of trolley wheels so there are three wheels on each side. Thanks for so much detail in all your work.
I love pocket doors. Couple details Use a pin in the floor and stop dado in bottom of door, eliminate the plastic guides Rare earth magnets to hold split jamb, no visible screws. Keep up the awesome content.
@stud pack look into superglue (CA) and the quick set spray for setting your miters, especially the short wall wrap sections. Sets instantly, tight hold, and no shifting while nailing. Its been a great addition to most finish carpenters pouches.
It’s so great to see a father and son who interact like you guys do. All fathers and husbands should be more like you Paul. Thanks for your videos and keep spreading that respect.
A coping saw blade installed with teeth reversed makes cutting easier for me- from above with the handle up and pushing on the down stroke. Thanks for the videos. Great to see father and son working together. Hallelujah!
I watched 1 video and then I was hooked! You give such great instructions on what you are doing and why. It's obvious that you care about the quality of your projects - a true professional. Thank you for sharing your great advice.
On my first kitchen faucet like that one on your farm sink I got tired of everyone yanking the on/off handle all over the place because they couldn't figure it out, which always made the handle loose. On my next one the granite guy suggested I put the on/off handle in the front instead of off to the side like you always see them. It works awesome and left is hot and right is cold as usual...
The 2 of you are a big inspiration a father and son doing the things they do makes me Feel like me and my stepson can do anything I am in a wheelchair have a lot of knowledge about doing carpentry work and some I'm learning but I really like following you and your son because of all that you'll do you'll have taught me a lot since I've been watching you all
I have to say that in today's video more so than in any prior, you can totally tell you are father and son. Jordan's mannerisms while explaining the trim preparation are so similar. Great video explanation of trim installation.
Check out Collins clamps for outside corners guys. Closes up my outside miters TIGHT and I'm sure you'll be as hooked as I am once you give them a try.
This renovation is a million times better than what they had. Very, very nice look so far. 4:50 There's enough room for a 14 bottle wine cooler, if they drink wine.
I've just starting watching your channel. I got brought in with your shower base tips I instantly subbed and everyday I end up watching a new video all I gotta say is you guys are very skilled and talented. The amount of tips and tricks you show us is outstanding. It would take years for someone to learn this and you make it possible with one video. THIS RIGHT HERE is an honest team who actually look out of their customers always DO THE RIGHT THING.. Thanks guys yall kick ass!
Great gift for you dad! I saw this video and knew my husband needed this for his truck, your dads back seat looked exactly like his (a working man's truck) lol. I ordered it from DU-HA and he was super excited now he has a usable back seat again.
Best channel by far. Love the father son relationship, the work you guys do and also you show that you make mistakes and correct them. A lot of people cut and splice and make everything look like no mistakes were ever made. Things aren’t that simple and I like the way you show your mistakes and then your solutions. Awesome channel!!!👍
I like that seat box. I got the DU-HA for my dad’s new GMC 3500 back in January/February. We actually used it for some radio equipment that needed to be concealed and in a dry location. Great investment, $200 well spent.
Bro awsome. Never take your father for granted. I admire you two working together like you do. My dad was an imagrant from ireland and joined the american military during viatnam. It fucked him up a wee bit and didnt talj about it.... he passed 7yrs ago...... but this irish family honors his sacrafice..... i do miss him bro. But enjoy your pops! Love you guys
Throw those plastic door outside-guides in the trash, and run a thin dado groove in the bottom of the door; then mount a single male center-guide in the floor of the pocket, centered in between the split-jamb. Great work doing the custom casings on those doors!
I’m going to assume that you don’t have the flooring or else you would have done it before trim and casings. Correct? Also, I find marking the studs on the floor is better because you don’t risk the marks coming through the paint on the wall.
I love seeing you use the multi tool to cut shims, I didn't use a multi tool.for a long time, I figured i didn't need it before so I didn't need it. Well now I use it almost every day for one thing or another
Ack. Trim before flooring? If you’re finishing with carpet, fine, but a floating floor? I can’t wait to see how you deal with this; i pray it’s not 1/4 round, as that makes furniture against a wall a nightmare, and it gets scarred badly in a kitchen when you vacuum or mop. Also, seriously, if you’re not into inside miters, look into an angle grinder with a flexible sanding disk; and consider using CA glue and accelerator for faster, cleaner joints. Love your channel!,!
For all those complaining about base before floor and having to use quarter round. If you watch closely they have a spacer block they are placing under the base molding. I am assuming to be able to fit the floor underneath the base molding? I have never done a full floor and molding install before so not sure.
I’m just here for the “base before floor” comments. There’s more than 1 way to skin a cat folks. And everyone is talking about shoe mould like it’s a bad thing. Nice job Gang and happy birthday Paul.
Depending on the person or the owner base shoe is a big deal or it isn’t. If the base is existing and you are just doing a floor then base shoe is the only way but if you can do the base after flooring that’s what I do
I hate those plastic door sliders that center the pocket door, they can rub off the paint and/or break off. I saw a video where they put a steel rod in the floor and used a router to create a channel in the for the rod to sit in. Very clean look, I'll be attempting that on my pocket door install and will be painting the track area black.
another great video guys. and who of us hasnt thought everything through except that...lol I know its a pain to redo something but we all have had it happen. and once you are past the curse word stage it just becomes funny. Great job guys. Sorry I missed your birthday Paul (Hope it was a good one) and in case Happy Fathers day too. Always good to see Jordan in front of the camera too.
I'm not a big fan of shoe molding. Just another ledge to collect dirt especially if it's white. Sometimes there is no choice. A coping tools would speed those copes up big time. I only cope stained trim. If you're going to caulk a tight 45 is no different. Just a thought on notching the casing around counter. Could have shimmed your split jamb out another 1/2 and not notch the casing. You would never notice to the eye the 1/2 difference when doors closed. All in all great job
Hi SP I installed a simular faucet, but noticed i was always reaching around water stream to turn water on/off and always left puddle on backsplash area when water dripped off my hand. So, i faced my handle forward and reversed water lines. Now hot is left, cold is right, and no water dripping off hand near backsplash leaving a mess, that just made more sense to me. I also removed water conservation plugs out of water lines. I believe in conserving water, but when i need to fill a pot with water to cook or make tea/coffee, that 1.25 gpm just dont work for me. Hope this helps somebody and Ill see you and Jordan on next vidio M L Rogers Pasadena, TX
Great gift! I made a sort of box for mine out of 2x4s. I’m not a handy person but I am a hotshot driver. My bad seat area was a mess before. Oh and Happy Birthday
When you're doing the crown, would appreciate an in-depth analysis as to how you set up the cuts. Seems like every time I try to set up a cut, I think I'm upside down, backwards and ready, I make the cut and realize I went the wrong direction. Would love some expert advice on how to make sure I make the cut in the right direction each time. Thanks dudes!
You guys are the best. Your relationship is wonderful. Paul, if you haven't checked out a guy in TX called Finish Carpentry TV, give him a look. He is crazy good.
Black spray paint is my nemesis. I had just finished a $100,000 basement remodel and there was a board I wanted to disappear into the shadows. So I grabbed my black spray paint. Made a small 3 foot tent area and sprayed the board. Worked great. Came downstairs an hour later and the light tan carpet was a different color. It was darker. I moved something that was on the carpet and there was a spot of original color. The black spray paint I had was leftover high temperature paint from touching up my barbecue. It hung wet in the air for over a minute and drifted all across the room. The carpet was toast.
That little storage solution is pretty cool, I got the same truck i built a little platform out of plywood in the back, gotta leave the seats up but I can fit foldable sawhorses below and fasteners and stuff, then got lots of room for activities on top. But get those new wings built to give me an idea, mine are all wooden and went down to Texas for work and they got soaked and ruined smh!

You're such a great son Jordan! That is an awesome gift!

27:30 It is awesome you look into taking things to the next level when other contractors are just looking to do a bare minimum and collect the check.
Great gift for your Dad! It's great to see you in front of the camera more also. You guys make a great team.
I love pocket doors. Couple details

nice work, the smile on your dads face is perfect.
I’ve done few pocket doors in my house. I ended up chiseling out the back side of the split jamb so I can install the door guides behind it ❤️
👍 it's how I do it

Happy Birthday Paul, you look almost 30 😁
Almost🤣🤣
Nice practical gift for the "dude" lol. But, that def. made a difference. Good choice, Jr. Happy belated Birthday, Paul .
I always just marked the studs on the floor before we rocked it. If floor was already finished just use a bit of painters tape.
Check out Collins clamps for outside corners guys. Closes up my outside miters TIGHT and I'm sure you'll be as hooked as I am once you give them a try.

Knew there was a reason I really like this guy...He's a FORD man.
I love that detail on the bumper jamb for the laundry door. looks really good.
I'm definitely stealing that for a remodel down the road at my house.

Thanks for the love guys. If you can. Listen to john mcdermot, my old man.... you tube video
Thanks for teaching Jordan the correct to do everything. He is amazing young man.
Happy Birthday Paul, I always learn something from watching you and your son working together.

Try CA Glue with Activtor. I love it for all my trim.. Perfect inside outside joints on anything no gaps and perfection ..
That early planned transition piece was an amazing testament to the thought y'all put into the job. Congrats!
You should check out Richard on the Finish carpentry channel he has a real nice miter saw extension kit that he bought thats really adjustable.
The Cut Hub.
Trim before floor? I don't think I ever seen anyone purposely do that before. p.s. Paul, hide that gold paint can from Jordan!
I’m going to assume that you don’t have the flooring or else you would have done it before trim and casings. Correct? Also, I find marking the studs on the floor is better because you don’t risk the marks coming through the paint on the wall.

Outstanding work and education guys.
I've got that storage bin also. It helped a ton with the back seats
you guys are great! I know how hard it is for family to work together
Classy! From under seat storage to custom-trimmed doorage, StudPack does it all!
Johnson hardware makes a soft close pocket door model 1060. I believe you can switch out the rollers for the the soft close.Just an FYI.
Happy Birthday Paul! You guys are crushing it! Looking forward to your 2 videos per week.
How you remember the names of everything you use and do is pretty impressive.. great video's.. reminds me of all the good times working with my dad👍

That was the back seat of every contractor, ever. 😆
I thought that was my truck for a minute, but no beer cans.
You guys are a dying breed. So many skill trade don't care like you guys do. Good Job!
Paul and son, I sure do like learning from you guys. You do quality work and your videos are fun to watch.
I like how you guys have such a good relationship
Why do baseboards before the floor? Then you’ll end up needing quarter rounds to close the gap. A clean baseboard over the floor looks so much nicer.
For all those complaining about base before floor and having to use quarter round. If you watch closely they have a spacer block they are placing under the base molding. I am assuming to be able to fit the floor underneath the base molding? I have never done a full floor and molding install before so not sure.
New subscriber here, I really enjoy this channel. Great tip, tricks, and explanations. Happy birthday Paul.
Great to see everything coming together guys, well done! And very cool B-day present, I have had one for years.. your going to love it.
Paul is a true craftsman, the devil is in the details! Great job guys!
youtube sent me here a week ago. this is great no bs. just real world guys doing it as they go
Thx David 👊👍
Very cool, tks for sharing!
Cool. I've owned a coping saw forever but have never coped!
Now, THAT was some great coping.

I cope with a grinder and flapdisk. Try it out....pretty easy man

I love using a fly wheel for coping. So much easier (to me) they also have those powered coping saws
what a great son happy belated b-day paul
Rigid miter saw stand is the way to go ....bolt any model 12" saw to it!!!
So glad I found this channel. Awesome stuff.

Are the water limiting plugs in the faucet or supply lines?
I'm impressed that you even vacuumed under that seat!! lol
Great gift! I made a sort of box for mine out of 2x4s. I’m not a handy person but I am a hotshot driver. My bad seat area was a mess before. Oh and Happy Birthday
Happy belated Birthday Paul 🎂🥳
Yeah, Happy Birthday!
For a quick way of coping, use an angle grinder with a sanding disc.

I have one - it's great.
The truck storage thing works great . . . assuming there is nothing on the seats!! Very thoughtful gift. Now what's left for Father's Day??!!
Happy birthday 🎈 love your trim skills combined with patience
Love my du-ha! They are the best...

Base before flooring? Interesting decision.
Did I ever tell you, I hate installing pocket doors! LOL Good job!
Dang these videos just calm me right down. And i am wound up pretty tight. keep up the good work.
You guys absolutely need your own HGTV show.

Ouch that hurts $$ 😳
I knew if a carpet restoration company. They were able to re dye the carpet in place. Cheaper than replacement but not actually cheap. :)
