It can be difficult for children to experience, yet so important for their growth & development. Love the yearly goals, such a great idea! Oh, what a sweet comment! Thank you! Yes, some people think we never ever lose a chicken. But if I say we do then they say it's our fault and we should have protected them more. So sometimes it's hard to share. But you're right, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. But trials do help us grow stronger like you said. Thank you for your prayers for us. Yes, it would be fantastic to have some breathing room and some time for myself. I'm really craving a hike all by myself. But I'm afraid if I take 3 hours away from the kids then when I get home I can't take another 3 hours to work. It's hard enough to get an hour or two a day to work without them clamoring for my attention or wanting help with the piano or something. So I've tried to show God I am devoted to earning money for my family and not "playing". I say no to doing things with friends or having them over or doing something for myself like hiking. I do cut wood and garden alone sometimes and that's fun. And I can count it as earning money since it helps us save money. So thank you for praying I'll get some time for myself this year. It's hard without older kids here to keep the house running while I'm gone (put wood in the fire, clothes in the dryer, bread in the oven), but I'm going to try. Thank you for all your faith and prayers in my behalf. I so appreciate it.
Haha! We were gone the 26-30th so when we came back it felt like we'd missed some days enjoying the tree. Kylie didn't want to take it down and we all loved the way it smelled. We weren't ready for the holidays to be over. So we waited until Friday.

Thank you! Thank you for not judging what we should have done. I was afraid to share b/c people would say what we should have done and blame us. I mean, of course it's our fault but even 2 of our friends with "predator proof" coops have chicken tragedies. And also a lot more sicknesses with their flock because they're closer together. Overall I feel we haven't had a lot of losses. And yes, the kids are looking forward to getting more chicks soon. You're right, they won't be the same and they won't be laying eggs. But they'll still be fun.
Losing chicken 🐔 is an unfortunate part of life when you're on a farm. Anybody who thinks you're at fault has never kept chicken! Don't worry about the critics. From personal experience I can tell you that envy has a lot to do with it. 😁 Please just keep going!
We had that happen to our chickens also in broad daylight. It was horrible. We didnt think we had any left, but right before dark, a few showed up that had been hiding in trees and etc. So we were very glad about that.

They went back to BYU. Thomas is going to Southern Virginia University. So now I have 4 kids at BYU and 1 at SVU. I have a video about what they're studying if you're interested. They need their love and attention since they don't have a dad in the house or any extended family nearby.
