Hi. Good point. Great video. Pioneer has video on the subject called: how to use 4-band eq. You might have seen it already. When on isolator mode: the two mid eq’s cut to -26 and hi plus low cut to infinity. Enjoy the music 😀
"When on isolator mode" What 'isolator mode' on the V10's channel tone controls? The V10's channel tone controls are entirely fixed on their parameters, are they not? An isolator is a crossover network where each tone knob is a trim-gain control for a separate channel prior to a summing bus. The master iso is totally different than what's on these channels.
It's a 4 band EQ so low. To get an effect of cutting all low end just like on DJM 900 you need to use low mid frequency as well. Unfortunately mixing techniques needs to be adjusted to accommodate 4 band EQ otherwise you may end up with muddy mix. I think its a great mixer but users need to adjust to it properly.
But that wasn't the point. Even if all the knobs are turned all the way left there is still sound coming though - bass, too. That feature just makes it more likely to sound muddy..
@@DelasVC Nope. The phase distortion from multiple isolators contributes more to mud than a tiny bit of audio coming through in a band for an audio channel that's beat matched.
My V10 is not muddy at all. although my djm900 nx2 super muddy with the new firmware upgrade . As far as the lows go, You don't even notice it in the mix. I'm very picky on EQing certain parts of a song. In my opinion the V10 is the BEST sounding mixer Pioneer has ever built. Guys complaining about the V10 have no CLUE how to use the V10. If you hear any kind of MUDDY sound coming from the V10 Then its distortion you are hearing. Here's a helpful tip. GO TO SETTING AND LOWERE THE ATTENUATOR TO -9. Because every sound system is different. Attenuator adjustment is not posable on the 900Nx2. This is why the 900nx2 sounds like shit on most sound systems. No Attenuator settings 900nxs2...
I laugh when DJs say they cut off the low while mixing a new track because they don't want the sound to be muddy meanwhile all their LEDs are in the red. If they were to listen to old mixes by Larry Levan on an Urei 1620, they would wonder how it sounded so good with a mixer without channel EQs. Mixing with EQs is a gimmick.
Sad to see pioneer selling this as “Completely isolate the high and/or low and tweak the two mid ranges” ... Dj pulse said the low is tuned to remove the sub and kick in the pioneer forums but it doesn’t even do that properly🙈
Glad you saw this video before taking delivery of the mixer. I really hope it's something Pioneer can fix..I started a ticket for it but have yet to hear back.
Question re functionality: One can't assign either HPFs or LPFs to channels individually and the same goes for send effects? In other words I wouldn't be able to apply a LPF on one channel and a HPF on the other? And not be able to use a delay on one channel and a reverb on the other, whilst having full control over all four adjustable parameters of the send effects?
I have a Zoom F6 to record my mixes. This recorder only uses XLR inputs. However, the V10 mixer only has RCA for record out. What do you recommend for me to use (cable wise) to record from this mixer to my recorder? Gonna use to record at home not at a venue. Was thinking Mogami RCA to XLR. Not sure though. Thanks for your input.
There's a few ways you could do it. You could just use xlrs out of the main master output and just use booth monitors for listening. You could use splitter cables, or the ones you mentioned look like they'd work. This mixer will also record digitally straight to a computer with a usb cable.
Do you still like your V10? I’m between the V10 and 900 right now. Outside of the EQ issue, the V10 seems pretty strong. Do you still find it to be a problem?
Seems to me that this was an oversight on the part of Pioneer. There are tons of DJ's who use the channel EQ's in isolator mode with the NXS2. I hope that they add a firmware upgrade option in the utilities menu as a way to switch the EQ's to isolator mode like in the DJM-900NXS2 and XDJ-XZ.
It's not looking like they plan too. I do wish it had that option. I have adjusted my mixing style to use the high pass filter much more frequently. I use the isolator as well to remove some bass from the entire mix during some transitions too.
@@vincelepeltier I'd like to propose another AB test that you can share with Pioneer. Get a specific bass tone or signal to play through both the V10 and 900NX2. Cut the low isolator on both and look at your frequency analyzer. According to page 82 of the DJM-V10 manual the frequencies for the EQ's are as follows: 2KHZ for high isolator, 1.2KHZ hi-mid -26 cut, 400HZ lo-mid -26 cut, 200hz Low isolator. So if you send a signal that is 200hz and you cut the low EQ to infinity then there should be no sound coming through. If there is then it's either a bug or a defective mixer.
BTW on the DJM-900NXS2 according to page 11 of the manual the EQ cut frequencies has two typos and I don't think they are correct. On the XDJ-XZ I see: EQ High 10KHZ isolator, Mid 2.5 KHZ, Low 100KHZ.
@@giovannigalvez3646 I did do something similar but didn't film it. Also I sold the NXS2. I'm pasting here a quote from Pioneer's response where they indicate that the -inf refers to 20hz for the low eq and that it's a low shelf. ""The labels -∞dB to +6dB are indicating the minimum to maximum gain attainable by turning the knobs. Additionally, the filters used on each band are different for optimal usability. Therefore, the attainable minimum and maximum gain of the frequency differs depending on the filter type. HI: Shelving filter that changes the gain of higher frequencies starting from the frequency shown in the manual. The frequency with the maximum gain change is the super high frequency, which is 20kHz and higher. HI MID / LOW MID: Peaking filter that changes the gain of the designated frequency. LOW: Shelving filter that changes the gain of lower frequencies starting from the frequency shown in the manual. The frequency with the maximum gain change is the super low frequency, 20Hz and lower."
@@vincelepeltier Thanks for this detail. I sincerely question the pioneer engineering team for creating cut for 20hz and lower. I mean I don't know of any subwoofer that can reproduce frequencies 20hz or lower so why would they create a parameter that cuts something so low. This is a mystery. If they were to cut at 100hz then that would be what most subwoofers are set to. If I send a 20hz signal to my PA system I wouldn't be able to hear it at all because the woofer can't reproduce that. I'm going to get to the bottom of this and get a hold of a V10 to figure this out.
This can be becouse of the 4 band eq than. The low frequency you can set to -∞ but the mid low eq reach the mid range too and that's why they dont costumized for -∞?:/ Filter must be used
They say it's cause they are going for a different sound...and honestly cutting the eq's sounds good...very natural...just leaves a lot of low end information...I guess the -inf refers to 20hz but there's a good amount that remains from 50 hz and above.
You have to go to the settings in the DJM V10 touchscreen and select isolator mode instead of eq mode, that way it completely cuts sound when you put the knobs minus infinite. There are many ways to configure the V10 thru the settings. You should read the manuals to know how to properly use the equipment instead of doing this type of videos.
@@vincelepeltier You have to long press the gear icon and that will open the utility menu of the mixer, there you can change the isolator. You can also limit the main and dj booth volume for the deaf DJ’s (best thing on this mixer)

If the low and high are full cut but the two mids are not, you could cut them with the filter 🤔

The master Isolators set to zero is the default position the neither cuts nor boosts.

how can anyone really hear the sound quality if you are recording the audio for this video through a basic mic? useless.
