At least one commenter brought up JJJ's rebounding. The cut-for-time version is that
(a) Jaren's OREB numbers will be low because he plays on the perimeter more
(b) Jaren's DREB numbers are low, but the team's numbers with him on the court are only slightly worse. (-2%)
(c) This is likely because he switches to the perimeter quite a bit, or his help instincts delegate rebounding teammates (his average DREB distance is more like a typical wing's)
(d) It's also because he's not a strong rebounder right now
(e) Any increased strength and maturity/polish will likely boost his rebounding
That doesn't mean he will be turn into a good rebounder, but it's a far more complicated issue than just looking at raw totals.
Thinking Basketball that perimeter switching shows his foot speed though, and I think that could be an underrated asset in his DREB. I think once the pro pounds get added on, those numbers will definitely go up.
could u do a piece on the evolution of bigs who can effectively & clearly defend the perimeter? JJJ, Mitchell Robinson, Giannis, Anthony Davis, etc.
Thinking Basketball Will we get a Mitchell Robinson video?
Mitchell Robinson vid pls? Also what music did you use in this video?
@@ChrizzzyEGolf It's by a guy named Greg Collins -- I added it to the description. I hope to get to Robinson at some point, but probably not in the next 8 weeks.
Thank you for your channel, this is some of the most in depth NBA content on TH-cam
Now Jaren Jackson has being great and since a year already. Especially with his defense in this specific year.
TB nailed it with Ja and JJJ.
just insane analytics right here, havent found anything compareable on yt yet
because Ben Taylor is the best analyst on the planet. Period.

Kanye East yeah, i have started recognizing that most of them just say shit I already know
Kanye East the dime drop is very good as well
Check out heatcheck they’re both amazing analysts
Here in 2023 and bruh, you nailed the evaluation! With a ceiling higher than Ja's, he turning into a great go to option when you need a bucket! He still ONLY 23! He can be an all time great on both ends of the floor!
Sounds like Steph Curry with a 40% block rate
That was almost the title.

This could be one of the best drafts in a while. 1-5 are already amaziny. 6-10 are playing like regular top picks with struggles but lots of promise. All top 10 picks could totally make an allstar team.
Agreed... Doncic, young, jackson jr, ayton, bagley, just to name a few 😳
How about Bamba?
@@nofuture_at_all he Will sucks until he leave Magic And became a star in other team
@KP - 11CH - Applewood Heights SS (2152) yes but Knicks is killing his talent
Athletic 3&D 4s are already one of the most coveted prototypes in the league. 4s who can operate on the perimeter, who don't need to take the ball out of superstar ball control heavy guards and forwards who stay out of the way of dominant centers. We used to think Kevin Love and Ryan Anderson when we thought of stretch 4s, now we know 4s need to be much more unique in todays systems. Guys like Draymond who are specialist defender bigs that cant get targeted with mismatches who can operate on the perimiter with their forward and guard counterparts. Guys like Tobias Harris, Draymond Green, Mirotic and Kuzma are all less than superstars but extremly valauble due to having some of these skills. I think Jaren Jackson is the evolution of that. A guy who can be an extra guard/forward on offense and can't get targeted by mismatches on defense. Someone who is able to drive and kick with the guards and sf who is able to be mobile on screens. I think Jaren Jackson and players in his mold will be a highly sought after asset for the next decade.
Dead on the head
This aged extremely well
Do Mitchell Robinson next.
Was just about to say this
Was bout to say
Harkless Hey, he’s a rookie 😂 he’ll hopefully stop that
Harkless Even if he doesn’t, he’ll be a disruptive defender. He’d still probably look very stupid against smart offensive players but I believe he can stop jumping for everything
agreed
THANK YOU for doing this my guy. As a grizzlies fan Ive been waiting on somebody to break his game down and get another viewpoint on it outside of grizz fans. Hope he is a future Star
This season and seasons to come are gonna be lit AF in the Grindhouse.
I rewatch this video every few weeks to feel hope

using slang doesn’t mean illiterate
Call me crazy but After watching this video if JJJ keeps developing with a good organization with the right coaches and maybe even reaching out to greats like Hakeem and KG, this kid has the potential to be one of the best two way superstars we’ve ever seen.
He’s so underrated.
Because people only look at the boxscore
He is. Because he plays in memphis. Look at conley he is crazy good but never got all star nods even though his team played well in the regular season. Big markets are the only teams that will get recognition. Hopefully, JJJ gets recognition unlike conley tho

I knew this nigga was legit in the draft. I swear I can tell who’s gonna be good in the nba and who’s not just by watching a few tapes.
Rule #1 of the draft: Don’t take the “freak athlete” that can’t shoot” #1 overall NEVER DO IT ‼️‼️
Rule #2: Watch tapes of them shooting. Watch their jump-shot & release
@@KingSukuna so you wouldn't haven't taken Shaq, LeBron, or Simmons. Cause all those freak athletes, although lacked jumpers, brought much more to the table other than shooting.
Who else has just been WAITING for another Thinking Basketball video?
The best TH-cam basketball channel on TH-cam. Whoever this guy is he should be in the nba analyzing players in the big leagues. Pure genius!
901 in the building! I'm so hype for JJJ!!!
I think he gone be good all around, already grew a liking for his Game. I think he can be good. On both ends
Your analysis along with some other amazing channels are just amazing. Always fundamentally changing the way I view players and basketball as a whole. Seriously thank you for this amazing content
Probably the most insightful and educational nba content on TH-cam. I always seem to learn something new in each one that grows my appreciation for the game. Thank you.
this is probably the most intelligent youtube basketball content ive found which makes it the most insightful and forward thinking because of it. these videos are literally making me into a new fan in the league like i havent been aware of before. im excited af for jaren jackson, the new tim duncan, now. definitely keep doing your thing. its way better than theorycrafting vids or neat facts vids about the league that ive found elsewhere
Great synopsis, really encapsulates my same thoughts on him prior to the draft.
These are awesome, greatly appreciate you doing these.
Please do LAURI MARKKANEN next.
Thanks for the great vids

Your channel makes me understand basketball more . Keep doing your work
u really give me a new perspective on many players and go really in depth. great content, keep it up!
Yes yes YES!!! Thank you so so much for giving this guy some TH-cam appreciation! He really has fascinatingly incredible potential and it deserves more attention. Can’t wait to see him develop down the road-I said last summer he has the potential to be the best player in his class, and I maintain that to this day, despite the brilliance of many others.
Damn, how did you became the best NBA channel on TH-cam so fast ??
Great content as always
Great analysis. One of the best channels on YT
Your channel is amazing. The in depth analysis is the best in TH-cam.
This was the channel I’ve been looking for my whole life. For real. Math and basketball speak to my soul.
Great video, men. Really enjoy this kind of analysis. You definitely have a new subscriber over here 🏀🇦🇷
These vids are awesome, man. You should be proud.
Man your underrated. Nice channel, keep up the great work 👍
Make more videos! You're amazing! These videos are so great. So unbiased & just based on facts.
Literally best basketball related content I've ever seen on yt.
Very nice analysis, I enjoy the evolution of the game and like to see what the ideal prototypical defender could look like to combat that offensive evolution. I've noticed that a historically typical rim defending big man can be nullified these days if a team can stretch the floor with the right matchups and the need for a new type of lockdown floor general is pretty obvious for most teams in the league right now.
Always always always subscribe and thumbs up smart hoops content. Well done, bro! 👏🏾
Your analysis is top notch sir!!
This song is really good
Best basketball content on youtube, love it
When you try to like the video, and then you realized you already liked the video, and tried to 5 extra times,
Great vid man, I love the channel
Wow, pretty impressive. Unique skill Set! Great video
Love the presentation. I'm a defense first player and I look forward to watching him develop
Awesome channel, glad I found this channel:)
Wow! That was astounding analysis off JJ. He's going to be a star for Memphis if he stays healthy.
This video is great I like the balance between stats, reasonable corelation to other players, and strong personal analysis. I hope the best for JJJ
just echoing everybody else but seriously dude your content is top shelf stuff. Keep it up
In your Jokic video coming up can you mention the importance of getting teammates involved. Like when Wilt was a 30+ point scorer but lost to Russell every year. But when he got a new coach with the same teammates he finally won the title. I think that concept is vital to understand when talking Jokic and understanding why the Nuggets are so good this year despite the injuries.
As for these rookie videos, I think they are fantastic. It's really hard to have factual opinions on rookies because their game is just not complete. Small sample size combined with limited roles and learning the NBA all mess with the Numbers. That's why videos like these are vital for people to understand these young players ceiling. Their weakness and their strengths. Keep up the good work.
This channel and The Dime Drop are definitely some of the best analytical channels about basketball on TH-cam
Thanks for giving him some well deserved recognition.
Bro is the truth I was pushing for my guy this year and he proved me right
Finally an nba TH-camr who knows what he’s talking about
love the videos, dont stop please
I freakin love your videos dude! Ridiculous analysis.
Finally the TH-cam channel I’ve been waiting for..
The pod is excellent, but oh man, youtube is where you truly shine!
I love all your videos
DPOY, mad 3pt shot, decent handles and can play transition well.
Well shit I think we might have a future MVP on our hands.
Wow I never knew Jaren Jackson Jr was this good, and had potential TO be even greater! Great video
Would love to see a video on Bam Adebayo and his similar lateral and vertical abilities and how they affect the game and how he compares to JJJ.
great video!
Love these videos, please do Mitchell Robinson next
A1 content as always
After last night, Trae Young must be next.
Brian Williams i was just about to comment the same thing
facts ROTY
Morris Drury did Doncic die?
@@UltimatelyProficient if Trae could keep improving for the rest of the season, I can see that he could challenge Luka for the award
@@yunan9610 Trae should be in the debate by the end and maybe even co-ROTY but I don't think he can win it by himself just because of his earlier struggles.
This is the best content on TH-cam right now.

I love this channel.
these vids are super great, keep it up! also i would love to see shai gilgeous-alexander next
I love the video and the analysis!!! (the music is a bit loud and repetitive tho) Big fan!
crazy analysis
Really love his game
My Favourite Basketball Content!
Also have to keep in mind that JJJ had been doing all of this while being "coached" by someone(J.B. Bickerstaff) who had no clue how to use JJJ properly. You didn't see many if ANY pick and pops in that clip because like J.B. didn't call any pick and pops for Jaren...like NONE. J.B. is on the record saying the reason he didn't play Jaren more is because opposing coaches told him not to play him so much...this is fact...you can look it up. JJJ's handle is what shocked me the most...if you put a bigger more physical player on him he takes them on the perimeter and toys with them. With a proper NBA coach his potential is off the charts.
This is one of my favorite bball channels so far aside from Dime Drop and BBALL Breakdown
Great video (as always). Really appreciate your videos and the time you put into everyone of them!
I tweeted at you after one of your podcast episodes (on rookie seasons) about this topic but I'd be interested to know if your evaluation on JJJ has changed and if you still think he's playing a better season than Luka Doncic is?
I think a Mitchell Robinson video would be awesome
wow some of the dunks on closeout were insane
it seems marc gasol was a big reason for his early defensive success
But is he Steph Curry with a 40 inch vertical?
With a 7.5 foot wing span too goat ???

Brilliant breakdown. No defensive metric can truly measure how good a player is on defense. You really have to watch the game to truly know.

i fuckin love your channel bro! Excellent and accurate analyzation!
This channel is the best! I think you'd enjoy analyzing Trae Young's Game
He’s one of my favorite young players
Great breakdown of one of the least flashy but most impactful in the team sense of a player.
You can make me think I’m the best upcoming rookie(I don’t plan on playing basketball)
This vid is aging well :)
happy for memphis. at least there’s a light down there. good! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I’ve been saying don’t sleep on 3J’s....Not even a Memphis fan. He’s nasty. I predicted doncic and JJJ would be 1 and 2 with doncic being ROTY. Looks pretty damn correct about now. Although many other rookies are playing very well.
He would be number 2 or 3 if he hadn’t gotten injured. He won’t play the rest of the year
Chipson Hughes damn bro had no idea....prayers up best of luck to him and Memphis
Adande Scrubs it’s not real bad. Kinda like Kawhis injury last year. They’re just being careful
A commentary on Malcom Brogdon is fitting. His marksmanship is so rare
YES please spotify!!
I liked this kid when I got to see him. Didn't know he was that young
New sub thanks for being interesting
Great as always. Can you do an ayton video? I feel like he has underperformed and i want to see the analytics behind it
Today's NBA has such incredibly talented players on the court, one through five. I'd like to see a piece on another rising star big man in Collins from Atlanta.
I'm from Toronto and spoiled to get to watch Siakam every game!
Knew this man was going to be a beast coming out of state. He was one of the best college defenders ive seen
nothing to say exept: great videos!
Good video
I think trying less for blocks in the half court and focusing more on the rule of verticality to contest shots with his length and tremendous bounce will greatly improve his defense and foul rate.
