It's a progression. You'd likely start as a jail deputy, then push to patrol. If you excel in that you can put in for detective eventually. It's a learning process the entire way. Even in the jail you can learn a lot-most inmates are more than willing to talk to you, tell you what got them there, etc. Understanding why some people do what they do is a big part of criminal investigations.
@CallMeAhSirHKP If so, that's a change from the early 2000's. They typically had sworn deputies in the jail alongside correctional deputies (CD's). Of course things could have changed since then. 🤷♂️

Under the leadership of Sheriff Bianco coupled with the God fearing men and women of this agency is what makes it so great. What a privilege it must be to work there.
