You can be LGPL compliant AND statically link, you have to provide object files to satisfy the condition for relinkability, and describe the the necessary library versions, tools and whatnot. Additionally, GPL only has obligations when it comes to distributing code to end users, there are no obligations for "internal use", say within your own company.

I don't intend to (or Know how to) modify the Qt source and I will link the Qt Libraries linked externally. There will be no money earned from the app, however the source cannot be released commercially. Do you think I will need a commercial license in this scenario?

Writing a book on QT? If that's what you mean then I don't think you need a license for that. You only need the license when using/modifying the software.
