"If you use Qt open-source and you comply with LGPL licence, you can sell your app without releasing your source code. Make sure you only use LGPL modules only and link to the library dynamically. There are several companies doing so in their comercial software."

You can be LGPL compliant AND statically link, you have to provide object files to satisfy the condition for relinkability, and describe the the necessary library versions, tools and whatnot. Additionally, GPL only has obligations when it comes to distributing code to end users, there are no obligations for "internal use", say within your own company.

"you have to release modifications made to qt program" - this statement confuses the hell out of me. If I am simply using qt standard library and putting them together to build my application, I am NOT modifying qt's source code am I ?

  • @nocanstiallbb

    即使使用了静态链接 ,也能使用LGPL许可证,只要提供一个可以编译,但隐藏了你核心代码的工程,让想替换LGPL库(Qt)的人可以用工程编译成功就行.

I have been dwelling with Qt License for a while.
I want to build simple widgets for work. Apps which are just built for improving productivity.
For Example building a Calculator and then release it. I don't intend to (or Know how to) modify the Qt source and I will link the Qt Libraries linked externally. There will be no money earned from the app, however the source cannot be released commercially. Do you think I will need a commercial license in this scenario?
