The hook you used on the spot head is a Kahle hook. You generally find them on fluke rigs. The thing with the plastic sleeve that you attached the 3 oz. sinker to, is a fish finder rig.
When using the softer / chunks of bait, I like to stick a piece of bloodworm on after it. Keeps the little stuff from shaking it off the hook and adds another bit of scent to the water! Tight lines!

I normally walk waste deep in the water from shore then cast because I can cast out a good 90yard to some deeper water but I guess it works for you casting from the shore line

I like to use light swimbaits or topwater spooks. I figured i would get a good fight on a lighter rod. Or should i return it and get a medium heavy diawa bg combo?

I did so much fishing this past week. I caught a 9 1/2 inch Rock Bass. Anything over 8 inches qualifies for Master Angler here in Iowa!
