@@letsgoatbananas I get these round veils from Mann Lake. I do really like them. They are called clear vue veils. Sure wish they could zip into a vented suit.
I bought one nuc last year. I have turned that into 6 thriving hives this year and also raising queens in nucs. So much fun to spilt bees!
Hey Kamon, just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make this content series, as it’s helped me fill in so many knowledge gaps related to nuc rearing. RTR.
I’m an ambitious new beekeeper. I’ve personally made you and Bob my digital mentors. I purchased a nuc in April and grew them into double deeps and a medium by the first part of June. At this point I did a little “on the spot” style splitting and produced 6 splits using queen cells built out using the “notch” method. 4 out of 6 virgin queens returned mated. The Unsuccessful splits I added to the smaller of the 4 successes. Now It’s a race to get these baby nucs beefed up before winter. 5 hives into winter to increase the odds for successes, the plan is for 100 hives in 5 years.
You and laurel are great, it’s always a treat to hear her chuckle and laugh with you out there in the yards.

Most have my favorite queens have been a solid black carniolan type. My current favorite in the yard is a golden brown. I've honestly never been a big fan of yellow queens. The worst ones I had by far were the Cordovans. Definitely seemed to be a genetic weakness in breeding for the recessive genes.

When is it too late in the season to do a split? I'm in NC at about the same line of latitude and elevation as you. One of my resource hives is getting pretty full. Was thinking of splitting it, but thought it was too late to do that.
Im in Florida so I dont have anywhere near the winter you have, but I just made a split 2 days ago from my resource hive if it means anything to you. I gave them a good honey frame from this spring flow and a couple brood frames/empty frames
First year bee keeper and looking forward to hearing you talk at the Louisiana Annual Convention. I added a second deep box about a month ago and I'd love to split, but i think I'm a bit worried they wont grow big enough before winter. With doing this is your plan to run a single deep colony through winter? Do you go double deep before adding super in the spring or just single deep?
Hello Kamon and Laural, I enjoy your videos.
I hope you will not mind me maling a couple of suggestiions. Having watch a number of your videos, I notice that you work with a full ten frames in your boxes. Have you ever considered using nine frames and a division board. With the ten frames, you sruggle to get frames out and back in again without squashing bees and brood.
As an ex- commersial Honey farmer in the UK with over 60 years working with bees, I know what pressures there are on you when you want to go through many stocks quickly. I always use a division board, which can be drawn out quickly and easily, leaving pleny of space to be able to split the brood nest anywhere across the box and take frames out easily. It also means that you can replace the frame and still leave a space instead of having to park frames outside of the box.
All of my boxes have a short fillet of wood 1/4 to 5/16th", fixed to one side of the box that the frames can be pushed hard against, to give the right spacing between the last frame and the side of the box, which meas that you do not have to lever it away from the side of the box before you close up. The division boards have a small strip the same on one side so you can lever against the division board and the sid of the box, pusing all of the frames tight together.
You will be suprised how much quicker and easier this makes going through large numbers of hives. Most of my hive are ex- R.O.B. Manley's who was a Honey farmer years ago here in the UK, and I followed his advice, and I have never found anything he advocates to be far wrong.
If you have never read his book ' Honey Farming ', treat yourself, it is a really down to earth book.
The other suggestion is one the I did post on one of your other videos, but with so many comment you must get, I doubt that you saw it.
Most smokers these days have a wide hook on the frount, which can only be used on the hive on the two long side. I use an old sassioned small brass single coat hook fixed to the rear top quarter of the bellows. This allows the smoker to be hooked onto the hive on all four sides as the hook will fit between the frames. It also means that the smoker is facing away from the inside of the hive and is at hand all the time without falling over.
Anothe great advantage is, it is so much easier to pick up and carry. These hooks are very cheap on Google. Give it a try on one of your smokers, and I bet that once you do, you will not want a smoker that dosn't have one. All the best, Kind regards,

I bought a hive with queen or that’s I what I thought I’m been checking for larva and I couldn’t find nothing weeks later I realized there was a queen cell. Does still a good time for bees to grow or not from South Carolina
Can you split in the dearth?
Yes you can but you have to be very careful to not start robbing and make sure both the parent and small colony have plenty of resources at all times
@@kamonreynolds resources as in pollen and honey (and feeding) right? I just have one hive. Kind of neglected it this spring cause I couldn’t get to it at the time. Now I got two deeps that upon last inspection need a lot of stuff scraped out as they made some fat comb and sealed almost everything up. But both deeps contained a good amount of brood and food. I was just planning to do a blind split. But here in sc I was worried cause I thought it was too late.
Another note: the hole saw on your Amazon page is the one that’s the right size for mason jar top feeding correct?
Last year we used the mason jar feeder that goes on the front and it was encouraging robbing. Was going to try top feeding this time
