    As a Dj @ Hard Rock Cafe i got my hands on this track about 3 weeks before ppl heard it on the radio. When i played it then, ppl wasn't really dancing or got hyped about it. But i was hyped AF! Dancing like crazy in my dj both. 3 weeks later when the track was playing on the NRJ radio, i played it again on my dj gigg. Ppl went MENTAL! Jesus! I think i played that track about 4-5 times every friday - saturday for several weeks. Ppl couldnt get enough of it! I still love the track! Cheers Fedde! Well done 🙌 hope one of my tracks could be a hit some day as well. Keep it up!🤟

    this groove is just happily infectious.. cant help but bob your head & tap your feet.. always loved mixing this with let me think about it, at first i didnt know fedde was behind it too, the tag was just the ida coor (digital copy) it wasnt until a bit later that i saw that fedde was involved. made sense as to why it was soooo good! i wish i could find the Cherry Coke Remix i used to play, id buy it all over again, but i do have the original mix in my house set (both songs).. would love an updated version one of these days

    It’s interesting hearing about this track from the guy who created it.
    But for me this record marked the end of the Funky/ Disco House era which had prevailed since the late 90’s. It marked the start of the electro era which of course developed into the Tech House we see today.

    • @opensourceecon
      @opensourceecon ปีที่แล้ว

      I am new to this. What are the characteristics and timelines of these subgenres please?

    • @extrude22
      @extrude22 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@opensourceecon Funky house is a genre of house music which is heavily inspired by disco. Many funky house tracks are built around samples of funk/disco/ soul records from the 70's and 80's.
      Typical BPM range is 125-128, usually tracks had some kind of vocal and and the instrumentation was generally quite rich and multi layered. Often acoustic instruments were used such as string sections, guitars and horns.
      The genre began life in the late 90's but definitely hit the peak of mainstream popularity from 2004-2006.
      Some famous records from what era which define the genre are: Junior Jack - Stupidisco, Aaron Smith - Dancin, Stardust - Music Sounds Better, Mgee - Bodyswerve, Gadjo feat Alexandra Prince - So Many Times, Shapeshifters - Lola’s theme.
      Put Your Hands up For Detroit is often classified as a genre called electro house. This genre started in the early 2006's and hit the peak of it's popularity between 2006-2008. The genre is characterised by it's use of electronic sounds, typical bpm is probably about the same as funky house. Often the production was a lot sparser and vocals were less common.
      But for me it felt like there was a very dramatic change in about October 2006 when 'put your hands up' came out. Funky certainly didn't disappear immediately but all of a sudden electro house was everywhere.
      Some famous electro house tracks from that era are obviously 'Put your hands up', Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah (D Ramirez Mix), Haji & Emanuel - Take Me Away.

    • @greggodfrey6516
      @greggodfrey6516 ปีที่แล้ว

      the electro era really started around 05. 09 is when it REALLY took off tho with SO MANY BANGERS!
      i always start my house set with french/disco house, then to a bit of electro & then into the 09 stuff.
      i did do it on purpose to match the timeline, it just happened naturally as that it sounds so natural

    I first heard this at a rooftop house party in Brixton where the DJ loved it so much that he played it at least five times. We were all off chops so we loved it too! The cops got called because of the noise and were prowling the alleyway below but they couldn’t work out how to get upstairs to shut the party down 🤣

    I remember 1st hearing the track dropped in 2006 at a club event. The resident opening DJ threw on this track and the place really seemed to vibe off it. I never forgot about it after that. He's right about it not being radio friendly, though I would hear it on live FM rush hour mixes a year later. What was hilarious was them saying it was brand new when in fact it was being played in clubs for probably well over a year before that lol. That's when I really learned why it was essential to go to club nights as that is where you'd hear everything first and probably still do.

      Madonna’s “Sticky and Sweet Tour” indeed, to promote the Hard Candy album! Madonna was born in Bay City Michigan very close to Detroit, so Detroit is basically her home town! Which makes the connection even more fun

    I was at CR2 when they signed this.. I don't they realised how big this would be. They were into it but actual impact I do think so- printing up promo CDs and mail vinyls. Everyone did really well out of that. Big figures.
    Completely the opposite to nowadays, no track can breathe too many dicks trying to be superstars releasing half baked shit every two weeks.
