I thought about getting the X1 but my Harmony Elite and Harmony Touch both still work fine and I like having the docking cradles for charging, so for the moment I'm sticking with my Logitechs but thanks for the honest review. Thanks for the review. I am also lucky enough to have one being sent for a review. Really looking forward to combining all my remotes. Not a problem for me but my GF doesn't get how to use them all. My last remote was a Pronto color touchscreen which was two houses ago. It seems encouraging they responded quickly to you. A good friend is the best low voltage guy I have ever met. He is looking for a fairly simple system to replace Harmony. He really dislikes the high end stuff that requires a programming guru every time you add a new piece of equipment.

@@hatoraidcowboy I have no doubt your setup is a lot more sophisticated than mine. I have a Yamaha receiver, LG OLED TV, Shield Pro, Camera Input, and an AV box to play TV audio on the patio through the speakers instead of the TV speakers. I am hoping that this is so simple I will have less hiccups. I also have 3 Yamaha's for Musicast. My low voltage guy likes this better than Sonos as he has many problems with customers having the 2 Sonos apps. The Yamaha Musicast works pretty well for me. It's all zone controlled. I have 4 zones. The X1 should be here Friday so looking forward to it.
@@scotts4125 I think it is more simple than a Harmony Elite. The setup process can leave much to be desired IF your product is not supported. But once you add all your components its basically a breeze and fairly simple.
There is a bit of a learning curve but nothing crazy.

I was a Kickstarter buy-in and have had this sitting aside cause of all the negative early reviews (Youthman etc) I figured software updates were coming, so after seeing your more positive review I figured I would give it a try. I have a logitech Elite, but I refer the Companion remote cause it has hard number keys and that is a big benefit when working the set-top cable box. I have two hubs set up, the primary one also interfaces with Alexa. The bedroom set up is a TV, Set top box and Firestick and I was using an older Harmony One, but w/o any Firestick activity (no bluetooth). Figured the X1 (if it worked decently) would be idea for this. Set up was a bear compared to Harmony. As it is now, the phone app gets disconnected from the hub whenever I leave the room and wants to do a new ADD Hub/Bluetooth connect. I found shutting and restarting the app solves that. I feel the device is clunky. Getting the device menu to respond is an adventure (could be me, I don't read directions much). I did set up activities and reprogrammed some keys, so I'll give it a try and see how it does over the next few weeks. The worst part looks like using the cablebox numbers to flip TV stations. I'm concerned about getting 3 digits entered before the set-top tries responding with the first two... time will tell. For cord cutters, without the need to enter digits, this may be a non-issue. And the BACK button is HORRIBLY misplaced (upper right), while the RETURN button icon visually conveys BACK. More to come I'm sure.
Unfortunately I wasnt part of the kickstarter or beta testers so I dont know how bad the remote was at its inception, I have seen all the reviews though. But I know SofaBaton has released a lot of updates by the time I got one, and its def not perfect but it def has potential, they just need any and all feedback and they are willing to listen to customers and make improvements so I think because of that it’s only going to get better.
The app does disconnect but in all fairness the logitech did the same when I had the remote as a beta tester and Logitech improved the speed at which it reconnects massively so I think that can also be improved with the SofaBaton. But functionality works really really well with the hub and ir blasters addition.
@@hatoraidcowboy I thought I'd share my latest comments I've sent to Sofabaton:
issue 1, after latest firmware upgrade - remote indicated "lost hub" not even sure what that means. What is the protocol between the hub and remote - Bluetooth? Wifi? Proprietary (over what technology)? Remote is always within 15 feet of hub. At 12:15 am this morning, when I got that message, just left remote next to hub and grabbed my Harmony One to change TV channels.
Issue 2, now that I got the numbers to show up in the LED for my activities, more than 50% of the time when I hit a number, I get a double digit. I suspect it’s due to the scroll wheel moving under pressure when selecting. I tried it a bunch of times and am constantly seeing repeated numbers where 22 becomes 222. This will be a non-starter for me, cause in the setup I’m using the X1, 95% of the time I’m working the TV and cable set-top box. Using the up and down channel selectors isn’t valuable when there are 300+ channels in the portfolio.
The scroll wheel and the poorly located BACK button are really downers in this design. Maybe an X2 will resolve this, but I’m hard-pressed to see where I’ll be able to use the X1 as a single controller. hard number buttons is the main reason I prefer using the Harmony Companion vs the Eilte (I have both, the Elite sit idle 100% of the time).

1. Lost hub is the remote control firmware upgrade or data synchronization when the speed is too slow, prompts after interruption, manually click the upper right corner to return. The hub and remote control are customized 2.4G, and the general control distance is 8-10 meters, but when upgrading or data updating, the longer distance will lead to slower transmission speed, and data loss or interruption may occur. It is recommended to place the remote control near the hub when upgrading.
2. If you frequently switch multi-digit channels, it is recommended to set the macro button to trigger with one click.
1). Create the device as an Activity. This Activity can be a single device or together with other devices
2). In Activity mode, edit the selected Activity item through Edit----Assign keys for X1-Remote or Keys favorites (one is assigned to the physical key, and the other is only displayed on the screen)
3). According to the prompt, choose to add Macro keys. If it is channel 1542, you can set a macro named 1542, including four commands 1, 5, 4, and 2.
@@hatoraidcowboy Thanks for relaying this... not sure if I grasp the details here ("macro button triggering"). Discovered last night that the up/down channel change arrows are actually moving the box 2 numbers at a time So from 151 to 149 and channel 150 can't be accessed. If that's a setting (like a mouse's wheel) I haven't found it yet. I'm trying to make this work, but seems like so many compromises. 3 devices/3 remotes may not be that bad. I hardly use the Firestick today and wonder if that will change even under perfect conditions. Chalk it up to "old guy stuck in his ways"! Mets/Astros World Series?
Sir, Thanks for reviewing this remote so completely. My entry level Logitech remote is getting old and my need to be replaced soon. The SofaBaton X1 may be a good choice when I can afford it. it is too bad that Logitech has abandoned their loyal customers. It think it is time to pay Logitech back by not purchasing any more of their products.

I agree…very sad times now that Harmony is no more. Its very baffling as to why. I dont think they have actually come out and explained why they did this. They still have a massive following.
@@hatoraidcowboy Thanks for the reply. I heard elsewhere that Logitech dropped the product due to it being a very small % of their business. I suppose we will see GM close Cadillac in the same fashion. Hopefully, someone like SofaBaton will follow up with truly affordable remotes that doesn't require a PhD to set-up and operate. I use the $99 Logitech 665 and that is enough power for me.
@Kevin Gardner I guess Logitech doesnt care about the little man…..While that may be true the Home Theater realm is still a massive community, as well as casual viewers with a simple setup. They had an amazing line of universal remotes(I use 3 different models in my home) with Elite being their bread and butter. I actually got that remote free because I was part of their beta program. Its still by far the best remote I have ever used.
I think SofaBaton can eventually get there. I really like the X1. I’m excited to watch the company grow and evolve and very humbled that they trusted me to review their products.

I have had my X1 for a month today as a matter of fact. And I still haven’t been able to get my configurations as far as activities go the way they should. I see that your video is from 2022 and it’s right now, 2024 and I still don’t see any improvements, which is a shame because universal remote control that again manage activities is hard needed.
Like I said, I have been trying to set it for one month using all kinds of combinations and all kinds of configurations and I still don’t get it to work. The language that they use is confusing. And like you mentioned there is no way that I could choose the input that the devices have to switch to The television. Truly disappointed, but yet I think I will still keep it in the hopes that they will improve they use in settings. I’m glad that the experience that you have had an many orders have had have been positive. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same thing for myself.😮

Thank you for watching! Yea I use the Diva for hdmi switching. But the X1 doesnt work right with the Diva. It doesnt switch the inputs properly. Its been a while since I’ve tested it though.

Great review! I’ve been using Harmony remotes since I can remember and it was a devastating blow to hear they’d been discontinued. I never had a need to go all the way up to an Elite and I’ve been babying my…740’s?…745’s?…along, hoping to find a suitable replacement. With only 4 devices per TV now with all 3 game consoles gone (and no home automation) I’m wondering if the U1 might not be more my speed. Let’s go find your review of that one because this review was great!

Definitely not the best user experience setting it up but mine seems to be working good so far. My main gripe with it so far is that there is no way that I have figured out to add the voice command button to the remote for the firestick I use and the xfinity cable box remote. I'm guessing it doesn't have a mic on it which is a bummer as I use the voice commands all the time on both those remotes to search for movies and shows. I know a lot of people complain about not having a number pad but in my opinion the voice control completely removes the need for one. I guess I'll have to keep using those two remotes which is a bummer...
@Bryan Rossi yea I dont think it has a mic on the actual remote. It works with google and amazon’s voice control. I’ll relay this information to see what they say.

Good luck. Make sure you check your exposure on both cameras to be the same and your colour direction. Also Fade in an out your audio between music beds and try not to have dead air.
Yea sorry bout that. I’m using my iphone with a filter for B-roll. I need a second camera that’s the same as my main camera…….Budget lol I probably wont use my iphone anymore lol
I just got mine. Every "fault" you mentioned are the same I have found.
If Harmony does go away, the X1 is a viable alternative. Touch screen would be a great improvement.
One other thing, wakeup when you pick it up.
They are coming out with the X2 soon and I’m getting a review unit so we’ll see what improvements they’ve made.
I like that remote a lot. I only have a problem with the sofabaton X1 with my hdfury Diva IR code for inputsel0x, the diva remote sensor see the code from my harmony 550 but can’t see the code from the X1 hub either from the data base nor the learn one from my harmony550. Do you have that problem? I received a new receiver, the problem is with SB or HD is steel there. I send the full IR codes to sofabaton, i did not had any feedback.
Yup. Same exact problem. They even sent me me new codes to work with the Diva and same issue. Works fine with my Harmony Elite.
I have the Harmony Smart control and I’m considering ‘upgrading’ to this one because I’m limited to 8 devices and it’s impossible to find the Elite or 950 which would let me control 16 devices instead at a reasonable price 😕
edit: my concern is about game consoles so this was very helpful, have they finally added them yet?
Yea its unfortunate Harmony remotes have gotten so expensive now that they arent manufacturing them anymore. Elite would be the way to go but alas….Give the X1 a try!
Building a system around the harmony elite remote. But I'm hesitant since its end of life. Is the sofabaton my only choice for a replacement? Dont want to use Alexa or google devices.

I think for most of us who invested in Harmony prior to their announcement of ceasing manufacturing, the Harmony Elite is still the standard and flagship for a universal remote.
That being said, so far the X1 is the next best thing if you’re looking to start from scratch. Its still doesnt meet the standards of the Elite, YET…..But its gonna get there eventually I believe.
5:59 I don’t have the X1 yet to test, but I doubt it’s because of the adapter. I have the Harmony Hub Elite and wanted to control my Apple TV in a cabinet using an IR blaster. I didn’t have an extra Logi mini blaster, but I had lots of 3.5 mm blasters. So, I bought several different versions of 3.5 to 2.5 adapters and none of my blasters would work with any of the adapters. Is the Logi blaster somehow proprietary to the Logi hub? I also tried several different brands and styles of blasters, but no luck.
They very well could be proprietary. It would make sense
We should be understanding of some of the limitations. No other companies are trying to make a budget universal remote. It will get better over time.
@Keeping Up With The Jones’ I completely agree. As it grows and evolves it’s going to be a great remote. I actually like it a lot. Their customer service is stellar and I think that has a lot to do with the success of the company. They actually listen to feedback

I just want someone to bring Harmony back. Mine still works, thankfully. But I don't understand how the roadmap has literally been laid by Harmony and this company is still having a hard time figuring things out...
Man….it’s hard to replicate what Harmony did with their remotes. Harmony is a giant though and they have tons of revenue from other subsidiaries of the company they could use to fund R&D for their remotes. Not to mention years of experience.
I dont know if ANYONE will be ever be to match 100% Harmony remotes but I think this company is on the right track with the X1….but only time will tell.
But like you my Elite still works and I’m never getting rid of it until it bites the dust.

PS5 is not and will not be supported by Harmony. So you can already see where issues are going to arise with support going forward.
Also, game consoles are controlled with Bluetooth and don't have "remote codes" it takes a bit more effort to get them working, if there's even support for 3rd party remotes.
Anything with Home Assistant support has home kit support, if you run Home Assistant.

Where did you get the hub stand from?
There is no hub stand….LOL I used the Harmony Elite’s charging cradle as a prop so I could stand the remote up and rotate it. I just cropped in so you couldnt see the base
That was one of my nitpicks…I wish it had a charging cradle
LMAO. Every time you say nobody is going to take the time to do this ot that, I am that guy. I used the learning feature to get every button for my Sound Bar, I have sat and gone through the code lists to find which database has the most working codes for a few devices. Going through the code lists has gotten me access to functionality that was missing from my factory remotes. At this point I am thinking about getting a cheap learning remote so I can learn codes from the lists an then teach them to a different list.

The xbox series x is infact supported, however its under the brand microsoft in app instead, then for the model "Xbox Series X"

Run an Ethernet cable next time and use that to splice two ends of the IR blaster. Much cheaper and more compatible than long cables

I'm not going to buy this because it lacks the IR blaster. I think the company removed the IR blaster and added the hub to increase the overall cost. I don't like hubs. If they add the IR blaster, remove the hub and decrease the price I'll consider buying it. I just emailed the company telling them the same thing.

@@SRX2004 In a dedicated Home Theater setup most people have a rack or have their components in an enclosed space so kind of makes sense so you can just use the hub with mini infrared blasters. That’s just my guess though.
