While I agree with Adam that it's generally not a good idea to cover ur artists faces when ur still trying to get those faces a fanbase. However, there's a great vid by Catchingteez about how Hala Hala is brilliant and why it went viral. It is a ballsy AF move to have ur group wear masks in a performance video just 3 months after debut. But it works for ateez bc they are such powerful performers and no one was doing anything even remotely similar at the time. They weren't afraid to go not just dark but grimy and creepy and unsettling when all the other boy groups were trying to be cute or cool or sexy.
@@TheAmpliverse You should definitely watch some stage performances of Hala Hala! They are insane (especially the red suit one 👀) and also you can see who's performing what part 😊

Some lore about Ateez (cause they’re my ult) 1. Hongjoong was the first trainee for KQ. He was solo I believe for 6 months before yunho was casted 2nd and Mingi 3rd 2. Seongwha trained at an academy in Seoul and was gonna give up but his teacher told him about a student that was on the producer track who would come in when the academy opened and didn’t leave till late at night. It kept seongwha going until he made his KQ audition. Turns out the student his teacher told him about was hoongjoong. 3. Mingi and yunho are friends from 9th grade who met at a hip hop dance class. Yunho in high school would travel to mingi’s school for lunch to eat with him because Mingi is notoriously a slow eater and his friends would ditch him. On the night before their auditions, they called each other to wish each other good luck but didn’t know where each other were going to audition to. The day of the audition they saw each other at KQ. Yunho was casted 2nd and Mingi casted 3rd. 4. Yeosang and wooyoung were big hit trainees and yeosang had a strong possibility of debuting with TXT but it didn’t pan out. Yeosang left big hit, auditioned for KQ and was the 4th casted for KQ fellas at the time. Wooyoung was still at bighiit when his manager offered him a chance to audition at KQ. He knew that’s were Yeosang was and auditioned there and became the 8th member. KQ fellas was already set at 7 members before wooyoung auditioned but because of Yeosangs recommendation and how charismatic wooyoung is, he became the 8th member. ATINY WE WON let's play spot the background tourists in the treasure mv bc they that $5 and a dream okay but seriously as an ateez ult I'm SO ready. to me pirate king is just... a perfect first statement to make about the group and what they're bringing to the table if that makes sense. like it's got so much personality and hits so hard with a pretty unique sound. the driving move from say my name is SO cunty and hala hala is still one of my favourites kpop songs ever it scratches my brain in such a perfect way and I can't explain it
4:32 They live in three apartments. Hongjoong/Jongho/Wooyoung, San/Mingi/Seonghwa, Yunho/Yeosang/Manager. 18:04 Maddox does a lot of their English Intros. He's a producer and soloist they work with. The crazy thing about the hala hala era is that they timed it so perfectly that it resulted to people actually getting into them more and being curious. In the era of kpop where everyone is banking on appearance and image, KQ and Ateez chose to have a title track that focuses more on their performance and music. Bold move, but paid off so well
Personally i loved the whole thing about them covering their faces because those outfits were what catched my attention and made watch the mv back in 2019 and i immediately became a fan
LOL the way you got their filming location right at the first guess is funny. but yes! they did film the first to mvs in Morocco, it's such a gorgeous country!!
I knew Hongjoong would be my bias from his evil little giggle in Pirate king back in 2018. Tbh Hongjoong and Mingi are literally my favorite rap duo since Jooheon and I.M from MonstaX ❤
also updated as i’m watching the person who does their narration for their intros and outros is one of their producers called Maddox, he’s best friends with Hongjoong and Maddox is also a solo artist underneath KQ
Correct me if im wrong Atiny, but i think i read somewhere the reason or at least one of the reasons for the covering their faces was to prove that they werent a group getting by on looks, it was so people could focus more on their vocals, rap and especially in this case dance, since it was a performance video.
The thing about ATEEZ is they have the best pirates fanfiction stories on AO3 :D especially with how Hongjoong as the captain and the become the pirateez assemble!
God it's been SO long since I watched these music videos, it's really taking me back. HALA HALA I think was such an incredible choice by their creative team because when I watched it, I immediately wanted to know who these guys were. I sought out variety content, I started trying to pick out their voices in their songs, and I was an ATINY before I knew it. HALA HALA is also the start of what I like to call the "Choi San Outro Beast Mode" technique, which is where they let San lead the choreo and go absolutely APESHIT for the last little bit of the song. San was actually considered the worst dancer during their trainee days and at debut, but KQ sent them to LA for a month just to study dance at various workshops and grow their bond. And that was apparently a major turning point for San as a performer. Now KQ does this with all their trainee batches! Pre-debut, Xikers were known as KQ Fellaz 2 and also did a trip. I think that ATEEZ is one of the most revolutionary kpop acts to come out of the industry. Their commitment to an overarching narrative and theme + their dedication as performers makes them absolutely unmatched live. Their most recent Seoul concerts were basically musicals that acted out and added onto parts of the lore. I know that you guys already got their full lore explanation from Showterview, but I'm so excited for you to watch it play out! I've already submitted these as variety reccomendations but I'll say it here: you Need to watch the two videos where they get colonoscopies together. It's absolutely insane. Happy Ateez-Tober, and I hope y'all have fun with them for the month!!
Yes to all the above! And I’ve seen a LOT of live shows (stage, concerts, Broadway, Off Broadway) and the ATEEZ concert I went to this summer was one of the best live performances I’ve ever experienced. They love what they are doing and just take joy in their performances. It’s really impressive.
When i tell you they have to be some of the best performers of rhis generation. I saw them twice and this time in LA. Wow. Fireworks, fire ,theatrics, special effects,.voclas, choreo....just you had to be there
If anyone lurking in the comments is interested, here is a passionate rambling about some of the key lore elements of the treasure series: 1. The treasure series (minus Say My Name and Hala Hala) is happening on a time loop. We are following the rules of the movie Inception where they are stuck in a dream segment (courtesy of our captain Hongjoong), and their goals within this dream are to find their treasure (later detailed to be a sort of undefined utopia) and find themselves on this long journey. 2. If you have Illusion on your list of mvs for next week (which I highly recommend, it's one of my favorite mvs to analyze), you will see that they jump between the dream reality and a dream-within-a-dream. Whereas they used tops in the movie Inception to ground them, Hongjoong uses a compass for this purpose (which you can peep in wave, illusion, and wonderland). 3. Say My Name and Hala Hala are the outliers in the treasure series and do not actually happen within this time loop, I think because they were trying to establish the other main set of characters for their storyline. We find out much later on that SMN happens around the time of the deja vu mv. Not so fun fact, the cloaked figures at the start of the mv are actually soulless husks of people from a dystopian alternate dimension (yikes). They are at this place to save yeosang who was kidnapped by the main villains of the dystopian world, hence why he was inside a box. 4. Hala Hala doesn't really have any plot associated with it; instead it acts to introduce Halateez, the other version of Ateez from the alternate universe discussed previously. At the time of the treasure series, we didn't really have much lore to go off of besides what we saw in the mvs, so it was a really popular theory that halateez were the bad guys and wooyoung in particular was an imposter (because he doesn't snap his neck at the end). We later learn that they are not villains; instead, they are revolutionaries from an alternate universe where the government has taken over and outlawed human emotion and expression. At some point in time, Realteez take over the mantle and become the next Halateez cuz the original Halateez were kidnapped and low key tortured (jury's still out on whether they manage to escape that situation). I personally think that the sequence of them putting on the masks at the beginning of the mv is Realteez actively deciding to take on the role of Halateez. 5. This is a bit more niche but in my opinion is one of the most interesting discussions about the lore: there has been a little bit of discussion in the loretiny community on whether the characters portrayed in the treasure series are Realteez or Halateez. Obviously we originally assume it's gonna be Realteez as it would make the most sense to introduce the audience to the real version of Ateez at their debut, but we don't know what is the catalyst behind them doing this dream time loop thing. That's why I'm personally a believer in the theory that throughout the treasure series we are actually following Halateez. My reasoning: we know that the last we see of Halateez is that they were captured by the evil government of the alternate dimension and are being held at the museum/prison we see in SMN. We are also told much later on in the story that the evil government are in the business of burning away prisoner's memories and emotions, and the product of this creates a yellow haze that causes people to hallucinate. My theory is that what we are seeing in the treasure series is a collective hallucination of Halateez as their memories are being burned away and they are escaping into a dreamland where they are pirates forever searching for their treasure (which also tracks with the name of the revolution group, the Black Pirates. Since their identities are so intertwined with the idea of pirates, I could see how as their memories and emotions are being burned up they grasp onto that identity and create a dream world where they are fairytale versions of pirates). I know this is a monster of a comment with lots of lore, but I am really excited to see you guys react to the rest of Ateez's discography, and I hope this gives some context for the treasure series!
i'm so glad you're starting your ateez journey bc they're such a theatrical group. even if you guys tend to like brighter sounds and visuals, their emphasis on performance, acting, costume, and set pieces (animatronic tentacles at the concerts for god's sake!) is verrrry musical theatre and camp. they even had steered and rode a pirate ship on one of their tours. the most recent tour they basically acted out scenes from their lore using their choreography and dancers as scene partners. also we need jongho to do the charli apple challenge like yesterday. idk if anyone has answered some of your questions so forgive me if they have: 1. pirate king and treasure were filmed in morocco and you were correct that they literally did spend all their budget on those flights 😂 2. they're technically space pirates and they travel on a ship through the sky - we only ever see them on a ship once though and that's in the Illusion MV, which idk if you have on your future watchlist 3. i know the lore is overwhelming and i am constantly looking it up to connect it all. in the beginning, just remember their album series are not in linear order, so even though they debuted with treasure, it's actually the second album of the storyline. strap in boys
watching this video brought me back to my babytiny days and made me feel the same excitement as i did then while watching the music videos for the first time and i cant thank you guys enough for allowing me to be able to feel that way again after so long.
They debut in Morocco (pirate king and treasure) and they went back when they became huge and headline mawazine music festival!!!! There was 130,000 people that saw them live on stage!!!! They came a long way!!!
I’m screaming. As someone who found your channel during Boysplanet. I never thought we would be here today. Gyuvin’s impact 😂. My babies. My Ults of Ults. Ateez isn’t for everyone, but I feel like you can appreciate the level of talent packed into this group. And the farther you go in their discography the more you see vision for them. I agree that covering their faces for Hala Hala was a huge gamble. But I think it helped to so create a bit of mystery about them. Because as someone who saw that video back in 2019. My immediate thoughts were. “Damn, who are they, and why did they just step on everyone’s neck like that. Let me go be nosy and find out” In any event. I’ll be back here next Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions.
DYING over the Pirates of Penzance opening. My literal favourite operetta (to the point I did a whole music analysis of it for my HSC in high school) 😅
I love this! I always enjoy your guys' reaction and now you are doing one of my fave groups?! I am sat for this every Tuesday, this month! I will also be putting forth my suggestions for variety shows. There's one show with kids that San, Hwa, and especially Wooyoung had me melting with their interactions with the kids. Wooyoung is such a girl dad!
IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!! I can't wait til you get to Treasure Ep 3!!! It's the most absolutely Your Vibe EP of all time!!!!! Also hope you react to their Japanese comeback Dreamers!
So yes, Pirate King and Treasure were filmed in Morocco and had a super minimal budget. They used free sets to film and if you look closely at 29:13 when they are walking you can see a tourist right behind them in the shot lol
Hala Hala is what got me into them, the first music video I saw and seeing them covering everything so we could only concentrate on their skills really sold it to me. We love talent.
"the budget was a bucket and a half" yup u can literally see a tourist in the mv 29:16 with them. kq couldnt afford to rent out the whole place and since all the budget was used in the plane tickets alr 🥲
San in HalaHala live had my jaw on the floor. Also KQ was sure we'd know who was who because they had like a whole predebut thing that introduced us to them... It was like 8 episodes I think then the viral performance videos so by halahala we knew them
9:10 YAAAAALLL GUESS WHAT?!!?! THEY KNOW EACHOTHER!!! When soeham was an idol and I think ateez were promoting the same time with knk and they had a cute interaction and soeham once on a live mentioned san saying how san said to him that he watched all the dramas he’s been in!!!!
Both of you are so funny and I love it. Thank you for this great reaction and can't wait to see more. I appreciate you both checking out my ult group. Btw it was Maddox of KQ Entertainment and not Kim Gyuvin that narrated their Treasure intro.
They def had a low budget in the beginning and still killlled on delivery, love it!! ❤ also, if you watch "Dont Stop", they collect specific treasure and return to their ship🫠🫠🫠and errbody is lookin fine in that video 🤣. If yall are reacting to seonghwa like that then DEF watch Inception ❤Yalls face at the end of Say My Name was so relatable lmao. You see them take on the Halateez positions (hats) and hala hala shows them full on Halateez. Their lore is worth looking into, aimed into being able to express forms of art and emotion freely, overthrowing strict government, it's awesome❤ its actually meaningful compared to random lores with no actual plot lol. Anywho, please keep these coming!!! If you react to guerilla and/or halazia, just be sure to watch guerilla first! It'll make more sense
OMG I felt it that Ateez would win and I’m so happy! I voted for Riize but am so happy for Ateez. I truly believe they are one of the best performers and have discography. Got into them back in 2020 and just love all their albums.
normally i dont watch reaction videos since its hard to come across people with genuine reactions. but i absolutely adored this video and yall had me cracking up the whole time. will def be watching future vids!
This is so funny for me to watch because i was a teenager when they debut (18) and I DID get swept up in their trailer and decided i wanted to see more of them. I was like 1 of 400 people to preoder their debut album (like it was the pits ngl), but they were so fire and the gift that kept giving! I think i just loved how they just went for it, even if it was kind of cringe at times. They had the talent to back it up. I wish you guys had watched their predebut performance videos too because the first one went viral and I think it was the stroke of luck they needed when they debuted. It also set the tone for the group, since their faces were covered too lol, that they were here to show off their talent and perform. Also Seonghwa was like everyones bias when they debuted (mine too) because he was so eye catching so I loved seeing yall gagged ❤ So crazy they started from these kind of low budget odd MVs and are now one of the most popular groups like!?!? Love yalls reactions!!
I’m so happy you guys are doing ATEEZ this month (voting beret here). I can’t wait until you get to their later discography and watch the mv to Bouncy. Lol, I feel like we know the exact moment Adam is going to get up and walk away. 🤣
Omg when I saw this video in my recs I screamed. Ateez is my ult group (Wooyoung bias 🐈⬛🖤), they got me into kpop in 2022. They're such amazing performers and such warm people too, I hope you guys enjoy this deep dive!! You're so right in clocking the pure energy of Ateez title tracks, and what's crazy is the versatility of sound they exhibit in their b-sides. Have fun with the rest of the journey!! 🤗🏴☠️
Last time i watched you for Only Friends and now I am having a blast with your Ateez journey! Adore the side bar on the taxes followed right away by losing your mind over seonghwa 😂

I subscribe to see each and every one of your reactions to ateez, absolutely all of their music in addition to their concept is incredible 😍 Welcome to the pirate ship.
There's actually 5 albums in the Treasure series, 4 albums in the Fever series, 3 albums in The World series and just Golden Hour pt. 1 so far. You seem to be forgetting Treasure Epilogue: All To Answer. Which is a crime because the title track, Answer, is in my top 3 favourite songs from them of all time.

HARD agree on the colonoscopy videos. it’s absolutely insane
I had to replay Adams maniacal giggle from behind his notebook after the woosan matching tattoo reveal multiple times lmaoooo he's such a mood
the silent majority wins! I am so excited for y'all to get to know these boys, they are so fun and well rounded!
I know close to nothing about ateez except gyuvin loves san so I'm excited to get into this journey with you guys!!!
was not expecting ateez at all!! the fact that you've been checking out the groups i love (&team, zb1, bnd, ateez...) is a win for me 😆
When i tell you they have to be some of the best performers of rhis generation. I saw them twice and this time in LA. Wow. Fireworks, fire ,theatrics, special effects,.voclas, choreo....just you had to be there
If anyone lurking in the comments is interested, here is a passionate rambling about some of the key lore elements of the treasure series:
I know this is a monster of a comment with lots of lore, but I am really excited to see you guys react to the rest of Ateez's discography, and I hope this gives some context for the treasure series!
i'm so glad you're starting your ateez journey bc they're such a theatrical group. even if you guys tend to like brighter sounds and visuals, their emphasis on performance, acting, costume, and set pieces (animatronic tentacles at the concerts for god's sake!) is verrrry musical theatre and camp. they even had steered and rode a pirate ship on one of their tours. the most recent tour they basically acted out scenes from their lore using their choreography and dancers as scene partners.
also we need jongho to do the charli apple challenge like yesterday.
idk if anyone has answered some of your questions so forgive me if they have:
1. pirate king and treasure were filmed in morocco and you were correct that they literally did spend all their budget on those flights 😂
2. they're technically space pirates and they travel on a ship through the sky - we only ever see them on a ship once though and that's in the Illusion MV, which idk if you have on your future watchlist
3. i know the lore is overwhelming and i am constantly looking it up to connect it all. in the beginning, just remember their album series are not in linear order, so even though they debuted with treasure, it's actually the second album of the storyline. strap in boys
i personally just love how adam's mouth was open the ENTIRE time. the ateez experience
Seriously, I wanted a reaction to their reaction because Adam was so dumbfounded.
I used to be a big Atiny back then, so it will be fun to go back and rewatch all these with you guys!
Mingi is a big man. What a perfect way to describe him.
Oh you've summoned atinys 😂❤
god save us
their KQ fellas dance cover video is iconic btw!!!! if u want to watch any predebut content
Wow haven't seen some of these in so long. The 2018 of it all 😂
watching this video brought me back to my babytiny days and made me feel the same excitement as i did then while watching the music videos for the first time and i cant thank you guys enough for allowing me to be able to feel that way again after so long.
They debut in Morocco (pirate king and treasure) and they went back when they became huge and headline mawazine music festival!!!! There was 130,000 people that saw them live on stage!!!! They came a long way!!!
Yes, it was Morocco!! Hongjoong is my star!! My bias.
They are insane in concert.
Yay! I’m so here for this! Be prepared to fall in love with all 8 of these beautiful men!! ❤️
YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THE JOY IM FEELING RN IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THISSSS
that's Kim Gyuvin talking in the intro video!
ur right ur right
The Debut Era Hongjoong appreciation fed my soul. His stage presence can get overlooked sometimes because it’s not super overwhelming
Let me go be nosy and find out”
In any event. I’ll be back here next Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions.
Omgosh I'm so excited for Ateez month! This was so fun and nice to meet yall hahahh this is going to be such a fun journey to watch!! Thank you!
Ateez still have long songs even in 2024 wooooo
DYING over the Pirates of Penzance opening. My literal favourite operetta (to the point I did a whole music analysis of it for my HSC in high school) 😅
Say my name has such a beautiful climax..like i cried
So happy to have found this account! You two are awesome and I’m excited for your next videos on Ateez! Hope you enjoy the journey!
They used free sets to film and if you look closely at 29:13 when they are walking you can see a tourist right behind them in the shot lol
literally my reaction to early ateez like WHO ARE THESE DIVAS 💜
If Halazia is not on your list I will be crying!
Hala Hala is what got me into them, the first music video I saw and seeing them covering everything so we could only concentrate on their skills really sold it to me. We love talent.
I was OBSESSED with Say My Name when it came out. And it still SLAPS!!!!
"the budget was a bucket and a half" yup u can literally see a tourist in the mv 29:16 with them. kq couldnt afford to rent out the whole place and since all the budget was used in the plane tickets alr 🥲
A buck and a half. A buck is slang for 1 US dollar.
The way you said Morocco!!! I yelled! 😂😂 I can’t believe you got that! Completely free sets so a buck fifty was just about right as well!
San in HalaHala live had my jaw on the floor. Also KQ was sure we'd know who was who because they had like a whole predebut thing that introduced us to them... It was like 8 episodes I think then the viral performance videos so by halahala we knew them
they put too much faith in me i fear
@@TheAmpliverse haha 😂😂😂, by the end of the month you will be better no worries. Some of us just had headstart
They knew each other before that, there's vids of Hongjoong and Seoham together on Mixnine
@@LadyTiferet omggg I didn’t know seoham was on mixnine too😭😭
I fear im obsessed with yall
Both of you are so funny and I love it. Thank you for this great reaction and can't wait to see more. I appreciate you both checking out my ult group. Btw it was Maddox of KQ Entertainment and not Kim Gyuvin that narrated their Treasure intro.
Ready to watch RJ and Adam experience an accelerated evolution of Seonghwas androgyny journey 🙌🙌
As a Hongjoong bias, he has such star power.
Okay but now I have to subscribe to ur channel BC I loved the energy u two were giving in your reactions.😂
9:03 so many people have said that san looks like seoham and it's so funny to hear because they're actually friends 😅
oh!!! yeosang and wooyoung are also friends with jaechan because they trained together at bighit 😁
OMG I felt it that Ateez would win and I’m so happy! I voted for Riize but am so happy for Ateez. I truly believe they are one of the best performers and have discography. Got into them back in 2020 and just love all their albums.
my ult group on my birthday month ? love that for us , so glad you guys are getting into ateez!!! you wont be disapointed trust me
ATINY FAMILY WELCOMES YOU 🎉
They filmed treasure and pirate king in Morocco 🇲🇦
3::11 as a greek, yes, that is a greek letter (Ω) and idk why I just realised that
Considering your love for the theatrical and performance I think you are in for a fun ride with Ateez 😊 and I'm here for it ❤️♾️
I was ready for riize but this is a pleasant surprise ! I’m excited to see this deep dive :D
normally i dont watch reaction videos since its hard to come across people with genuine reactions. but i absolutely adored this video and yall had me cracking up the whole time. will def be watching future vids!
omg Ateez!!!!! This is amazing!!! You guys are going to LOVE seongwha and Hongjoong
The instant reaction to Seonghwa whenever he appears LMFAO that's our gender envy.
I just discovered you're channel and i love it. It's a pleasure to watch you're journey with our Pirate kings 😊
What a month to chose for Ateez month! This was for me specifically
I’m so happy you guys are doing ATEEZ this month (voting beret here). I can’t wait until you get to their later discography and watch the mv to Bouncy. Lol, I feel like we know the exact moment Adam is going to get up and walk away. 🤣
3:40 Block B were managed by KQ Ent but Zico's company is KOZ Ent which is under Hybe
You should watch the Treasure + Precious concert stage, the acting is mesmerising!
can‘t wait seeing you get suprised by the rest of the treasure series
i’m sooooo excited for this ahhhhhh i love ateez so much
Omg when I saw this video in my recs I screamed. 🤗🏴☠️
For Hala Hala the reason they covered their faces is for Lore. This was the introduction to Halateez or The Black Pirates.
Last time i watched you for Only Friends and now I am having a blast with your Ateez journey! Adore the side bar on the taxes followed right away by losing your mind over seonghwa 😂
I subscribe to see each and every one of your reactions to ateez, absolutely all of their music in addition to their concept is incredible 😍
Welcome to the pirate ship.
I’m only here because of my HAUNTINGLY FFFFfffff BEAUTIFUL vocals and performance kings ATEEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been waiting on this!
When Maddox speaks, Atiny sit down and listen eagerly.
Thanks so much for this! ATEEZ is a true example of artistry and why they are 4th Gen leaders!!!
Hahahahaha! The looks on your faces throughout Say My Name…SAME!!
40:36 "doing their taxes" SIR you kill me 🤣 Also moment of silence for 38:46 when Seonghwa destroyed us all
