I can't wait to make this for winter! I want to add an overlay of a really cool snake flocked mesh that I got on sale so it'll be fun figuring that out lol
This was so much fun to create! Thank you so much for this easy to follow tutorial! They made great Christmas presents for my friends and family! I've made 8 so far, and will probably make more! I even made a reversible one for my friend's little sister!
Ah that makes me so so happy to hear!!! Thank you so much for following my tutorial and taking the time to leave a comment 😊 I’d love to see your capes if you’d ever like to share a picture!
This is the absolute best cape tutorial I have watched. Not only cute, but easy to make. I don't like coats, too confining. Thank you so much. I will be making a lot of capes for the winter season.
Aw thank you so much Rose! That really is the best compliment 😊 I’m so happy to hear you’ll be making some for winter... you’ll have to let me know how they turn out when you do! Thanks for watching!
Muchas gracias por tu propuesta, esta increíble y muy fácil de hacer, justo estaba buscando algo así, gracias por compartir tu talento, Dios té bendiga. Saludos desde Orizaba, Veracruz, México
Oh that's so great, I'm really happy to hear this one was helpful for you 😃 Thanks so much for watching the tutorial and I'd love to hear how it turns out! Happy sewing!!
Hey Dinah!!! 👋 They do seem to be so popular lately! I saw a woman wearing one out the same day I finished mine haha... I bet it would look great with a hood too! Thanks for watching 😃
This is really simple project and I can't wait to try it! I think in the future I might like to make a reversible one, though. Do you have any suggestions on how to do that?
yes, cut your square in half to make 2 triangles. Cut a different fabric the same way and sew them together leaving a place to turn them. Trim the corners a bit to take out some of the bulk. You can use flannel or any fabric you like for this.
Oh awesome, great idea to get started now especially with all that’s going on in the world... it’s great to keep busy creating! Thank you for watching and stay safe!
3:10 a lot of times when I topstitch, I use one of my decorative stitches if I want a decorative element in the piece. Most usually when making things for my daughter, she asks for decorations on the hem, or the sleeves, or the neckline.... She's only almost 4 but she's already a little fashionista! And usually when she wants that, I'll bring out my "special thread" (1000 yd spools of polyester thread, 24 colors) and let her pick what she wants, or I'll pull out a few that coordinate and let her pick from those.
I love a good decorative stitch! I haven’t tried it on the fleece though. I’d suggest testing it out on a scrap first to make sure the effect is the same since the fabric is so thick. I just made a top with decorative stitching recently! I love the effect it adds to certain pieces. That’s so cute she likes to pick out the threads and colors!! I’m sure she’ll be excited to learn to sew when she gets older like her mommy! 😃
@@ComicatCreations oh yes. I've been using loosely woven fabric (like 200 or less thread count sheets I pick up from the thrift store), putting it in a medium embroidery hoop, and threading a darning needle with yarn, teaching her to go up and down INSIDE the hoop (still a little confused on that part though lol).
And also, I've used old fleece blankets to make jackets and robes for her Barbie dolls. The "thin" decorative stitches, ones that use a single line of stitches, don't work well, but the thick ones (lines of filled in shapes, like "steps", ovals, diamonds, etc) work really well.
omg i did a ton of cape before but for some reason i had in my head that i had to cut a colar and sewing it on top. your method is much easy holy hell all the trouble i put myself through !
Oh good, I’m glad you like the cape and I hope it helps to keep you extra warm! 😄 it’s nice because it kinda doubles as a blanket!! Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much...🙂 I'm looking for it as I have a beautiful cloth of piece like yours and thinking that what I do with it. Now I got the idea thanks once again 🤗 stay blessed
Oh awesome, I'm happy you've got a piece of fabric that will work for this!! 😃 Thank you so much for watching! I'd love to hear how yours turns out when you make it!
WOW!!!!!! Monika, I am so happy I ran across this video.....this is perfect for me as a beginner......definitely sharing this video for my beginner sewing friends.....great Christmas gifts for the upcoming winter in Atlanta, Georgia...one question: did you wash the fabric before using?
You’re so welcome, I’m happy you wanna make one of your own! You’ll have to let me know how it turns out 😃 Thank you for checking out the tutorial and happy sewing!
Thanks Monika for this poncho tutorial! Awesome, I love it. I don't know why but I'm thinking a pencil skirt matching the poncho would be awesome as well as warm. Maybe in a solid color. I definitely will make this poncho. You made it to look both cute as well as super warm!
Ohh yes you’re right, I think a pencil skirt would look great with this!!! It’d be cute with a pencil skirt, tights, and a pair of short boots, I think 😃 I’m so excited to hear you’ll be making the cape, I’d love to hear how it turns out! Thank you for watching!!
I don’t have a sewing machine but wouldn’t mind making one of these by hand, do you think a blanket stitch around the edge in he first step would work?
Thank you! Sorry, I'm just seeing this so I'm sorry this is such a delayed response. You could sew a boarder around the outside to make it a larger square before folding it all together, yes... or, I'm not sure if they make this or not, but if they make extra wide fleece fabric you could also use that! I've also recently made another different style fleece cape that comes down a bit longer, here's the tutorial for that in case you like that style better since it is a bit larger and longer: th-cam.com/video/qiGEDoVG-bg/w-d-xo.html
2:13 I don't even cut. I just pull out 12-18 inches of thread (I use serger cones for my basic neutral colors) and then start sewing again where I need to.
Hi there very nice tutorial and I appreciate seeing the pattern. However I am a larger woman, not real big, but plus size. This pattern is not good for larger women. It barely closes in the front which makes it lay poorly across the chest. If there were a way to make a bigger square without piecing perhaps that would be an answer. However all of the fleece that I have bought is 59 inches. You would almost need a 62 or 63 inch square. to make it lay nicely. I just thought I would make note of that for anyone reading it. I was a little disappointed when I got done and found it didn’t really fit nicely and didn’t drape. However I will find someone to give it to who is smaller than me! Again nice tutorial and thank you.
No hate but I’m upset I want to say cultural appropriation bc this is literally a traditional pancho from Mexico but this was also used as a rain coat back back in the day for like fancy people so I guesssss you can call it a WInTer cApE🙄
This is the easiest cape sewing tutorial i've seen so far. Well done!
Wow so beautiful. It's so simple. You have used a beautiful fabric. Your explanation is very clear. I will try this. I'm from India 🙏
