Lufia 2 Rise of the Sinistrals - Boss 8 : Gades (1st fight)

Boss from Lufia 2. Fighting against Gades, the Master of Destruction. This is the 1st fight. If you lose this battle, the story continues anyway (though you won't get Gades's Blade)

One of the hardest bosses in the game, which you should expect from a boss that you aren't supposed to win against. You have to be equipped accordingly if you ever want to have any chance against this guy, and you need some sort of strategy. You can also use the Statue-method, but I don't like that one, so here's another method.
MAKE SURE that Selan and Tia are in the BACK, otherwise one Destructo-Wave will likely kill Tia and possibly Selan. I made this mistake like 4 times in a row when I recorded this before I saw it... Yeah... Massive facepalm... In this strategy, I wanted Tia to be faster than Gades in a single turn, so I used Fleet from Maxim's Kite Shield on Tia and Sluggish from Guy's Jet Helm on Gades. Tia should be faster than Gades at this point so that she can heal accordingly. From there, focus on decreasing Gades's damage. As he has a lot of strength, Menace works wonders here. Bravery and Ironclad also provide nice defenses. Once you got your shit up, focus on increasing your damage (have Tia and Selan heal every turn, preferably use Stronger with the Mind Ring for Selan and switch between the Holy Wings IP and Strong for Tia, depending if Gades does a single attack or uses Destructo-Wave). Once you get everything up, Tia and Selan should heal, while Maxim and Guy should focus on attacking... This battle takes a while (which is why I sped it up), but once you got everything set up, you pretty much already won.
