  • This time we take a look at how to braid the fish-scale braid.
This is an easy braid that can be used to wrap around objects such as lighters, water bottles etc.
It can also be used to make a great looking belt.
    More info on the braid:

Handle looks great! Thanks for sharing you technique. ( used 30’-0” of 550 cord to achieve a 6” grip)

So about a mile of cord to wrap a steering wheel. 😂

So, how much would I need to wrap a driving wheel? About 30 feet?

At what diameter did you need 30 ft of cord to do 6 in of wrap?

I’ve tried to ty this knot forever. We use it to put over a saddle horn to protect it from rope burns. Was so happy to find this video. This video was so easy to follow. Thanks for sharing.

We put this around saddle horns to protect them. Thanks for this tutorial. I have been trying to learn it for over a year. You was very helpful in learning how to do. Again thanks for sharing.

Your English needs some help. Let me help you.
    When you say….
Show you (how) the braid looks (like). This is incorrect.
Show you “what” the braid looks like. Is correct.
    Or also…..
Show you “how” the braid looks. Singular. Is correct.
If you want to say (how) then just end the sentence with (looks).
If you want to end the sentence with (looks like) then use (what) instead of (How).
Not (how) the braid looks (like).
    This one is incorrect.
“Let me show you HOW the braid LOOKS.” Is correct
“Let me show you WHAT the braid LOOKS LIKE”. Is correct.
“Let me show you HOW the braid LOOKS LIKE.” Is incorrect.
Hope this helps your English. 🤞🙏🏻

Let me help you with your manners. When you tell someone his grammar is incorrect without demonstrating what would be correct, this is incorrect. Better still, ask yourself if what the man is saying can be understood by someone who really wants to understand. If so, as it is in the case of this very helpful tutorial, it's probably best to resist the impulse to "help." You're welcome.

Wonderful! It looks like this would provide a good gripping surface for a knife handle, depending on the type of cord. A good replacement for the usually inadequate factory- provided cord handles.
    Thanks!

How did it work out for you? Is the grip sturdy, strong? Is there any slippage or uncoiling of the wraps?

    • @Old52Guy
      @Old52Guy 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@heathpalmer4283 Overall, it worked well. One problem I didn't anticipate was moisture retention leading to rust. Even though when wet the paracord stayed tight it retained enough moisture to cause rust to set in. It held onto it long enough that there were spots of rust on the stainless. After 1.5 yrs the paracord had stained and picked up an interesting odor. The outer sheath had nicks which let more water leak inside the cord. I took it all apart, tossed the cord and used steel wool to clean up the handle/tang. I sprayed the handle with 3 coats of rust inhibiting primer you use on car bodies. I thought of coating the handle with epoxy but decided against it. I let it dry for a couple of weeks to make sure as much of the paint solvent was evaporated so the cord wouldn't degrade. Then I tied a new cord handle. It's been about 4 months and no problems noted. The takeaways are paracord doesn't last forever, even stainless will start to rust if exposed to moisture too long, and cord will pick up and hold odors. Overall the cord worked great. I used 770 paracord because I have big hands and this now fits better. I will use this on a couple of knives I'm rehabbing. Hope this helps.

I wrapped a 5 inch section of walking pole 1 inch diameter, with 2mm paracord to create comfortable grip. I used 25 feet of cord. I started with a 30 feet length and had 5 feet left. Better to start with a bit too much and have a bit left, rather than do all that work, and fall short!

How do you finish this at the bottom just a knot then melt it, or there is a technique to finish it off so the excess is hidden away. Thanks and great video

      Thank you for the comment!
My go to way of finishing wraps is by taking the end and running it under the wrap to the top side. This does indeed hold the end in a nice way, plus it is easy to trim.

There's videos on TH-cam that show how to make one yourself. Its fairly simple with handtools; a hacksaw, either a drill motor, or drill press, and a file, sandpaper, or a grinder, (side or bench), or a dremel tool (which is what I uses). Get a screw post from Lowes or other hardware store, get the largest size and as long as you desire it to be, I used #8 × 2 1/2". That was the longest and largest I have found, so far. You just cut off the head on the screw post, then grind, sand, or file a taper on the same end you just cut off the head, and you've got a homemade, short, cute, functional tool. Fibs are, also, available from Amazon and a mirad of other online and local hobby, craft, and paracord stores.
