doing a music business course at uni and it gets me down to see how money and commercially driven the music industry is. every time i listen to frank turner he reminds me why i want to be involved in music. because i love music. this song really sums that up. really refreshing and inspiring as always
picked up guitar/singing a little under two months ago and uploaded my first cover the other day. woke up to a comment saying i sound like an american version of this guy. first time hearing him and im feeling real confident right now.
Lyrics: Hear ye, hear ye, friends and Romans, countrymen Hear ye, hear ye, punks and skins and journeymen Hear ye, hear ye, my sisters and my brethren The time is coming near Come ye, come ye, to soulless corporate circus tops Come ye, come ye, to toilet circuit touring snobs Come ye, come ye, to bedrooms, bars and bunker squats The sound is ringing clear Now who'd have thought that after all Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all Now who'd have thought that after all, it was rock 'n' roll Hear ye, hear ye, now anybody could take this stage Hear ye, hear ye, and make miracles for minimum wage Hear ye, hear ye, these folk songs for the modern age Will hold us in their arms Right here, right now, Elvis brings his children home Right here, right now, you never have to feel alone Right here, right now, teenage kicks and gramophones We hold them in our hearts Now who'd have thought that after all Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all Now who'd have thought that after all, it was rock 'n' roll And I still believe (I still believe) in the saints Yeah, in Jerry Lee and in Johnny and all the greats And I still believe (I still believe) in the sound That has the power to raise a temple and tear it down And I still believe (I still believe) in the need For guitars and drums and desperate poetry And I still believe (I still believe) that everyone Can find a song for every time they've lost And every time they've won So just remember, folks, we're not just saving lives, we're saving souls And we're having fun And I still believe Now who'd have thought that after all Something as simple as rock 'n' roll would save us all Now who'd have thought that after all Something so simple, something so small Who'd have thought that after all, it's rock 'n' roll Source
you know nothing. There's loads more good, new music out there than when I was under 25. I speak as a 45-yr old former Peel junkie. The fact that you rely on the radio says more about you than quality new music.
got to agree with the comments here. I havnt listened to radio... well ever. and there is a ton of great stuff now. It just seems ao hard to find. or maybe im just too old.
Saw Frank and the band open up for Social Distortion in Modesto, CA last week -- fucking amazing. Should have been a co-headlined show. A song for the ages.
I've seen Frank quite a few times, but the best time was at Mosely Folk festival, where he was on a small stage in front of a few hundred people at the most. It was fucking amazing! It was an acoustic set that still sounded punk. His mate was on the Mandolin too. I went to rehab in 2019 and gave my Frank turner tickets to my mate, but then he took me down Moseley folk festival to see him in 2021.
saw this dude in a small punk rock club that can hold maybe 200 people in oklahoma and it was the most rockiness show ive seen possibly. definitely the most rockiness show with an acoustic guitar
I love this song because the lyrics really do sum up why rock and roll has such a profound impact on people. It's just a perfect rock song in and of itself. It has a chipper tune, but you could still listen to it when your sad or angry. Good one.
No matter how much hate I get for this,I thank god for Rockband and supporting songs like this (and if School of Rock ever gets a sequel, the BETTER FUCKING BE ON THAT SOUNDTRACK!!)
Such an awesome back story and proof that class isn't inevitable. He saw the failings in this own "social class" before him and kicked it straight in the face.... lyrically.
Every time I'm feeling any level of depressed, I just listen to this man and his wonderful music and I become so happy. I would diagnose Frank Turner to people suffering with depression, that's how much I love this.
BRILIANT! AWESOME! i mean the song might not be that amazing but the concept.. "rock'n'roll saved us" and stuff.. every musician should understand what is the real music and the history of it.
I remember going to a show that Frank opened (I think it was a Social D show) and he just hung out at his merch booth. My wife and I talked to him for a few minutes and he was such a cool guy.
After seeing Frank Turner live, I haven't stopped listening to him. I had 2 of his albums already, but never listened to them. Now, I listen to them all the time! Substitute is definitely his best.
I discovered you on Bay Fest 2019. You performed amazingly: really passionate, classy, great vocals and adaptation to punk rock festival. Thank you for an awesome performance and this gorgeous song.
This song is an instant classic. If there was any sense in the music industry it would have been played on the radio all the time and been a no. 1 single.
Agree, saw them in Düsseldorf. No idea how I could miss Frank Turner so far. This song is absolutely amazing. The lyrics are pure poetry. And finally the video shows my understanding of the perfect party - the dancing, the clothing style and the fun. So good.
Frank is fantastic! I first heard him in May when he opened for one of my favourite acts, the Joel Plaskett Emergency. I've been addicted to his songs ever since.
no matter how bad my day has been, this guy's music always makes me smile. i discovered this guy from hearing a song of his on radio 1, and since then, i got 3 of his albums and cann't stop listening.. new favourite artist!
Who could dislike this? I wish all artists were these positive, upbeat, and overall awesome. I miss Million Dead, but hot damn if Franks "solo" stuff isn't some of the best shit you can listen to today
"I still believe
That everyone
Can find a song for every time they've lost
And every time they've won"
Yep.
Amazing lyrics. 😍
"So just remember folks were not just saving lives we're saving souls we're having fun. "
Music saves lives.

12 years late, but I can relate completely brother
🤣😂 the fact you think it ever wasn’t means you failed
I feel like I'm just going to cry from start to finish when I see him again on Monday.
I seriously can't stop listening to this. The lyrics, the music, his voice... It's all so good and makes this a truly awesome song.
Ta
Frank Turner = Genius
the video shoot for this was the best afternoon of my life. Who wouldn't love being in a pub surrounded by other Frank fans?
picked up guitar/singing a little under two months ago and uploaded my first cover the other day. woke up to a comment saying i sound like an american version of this guy. first time hearing him and im feeling real confident right now.
thats pretty much the greatest compliment youve ever received.
Frank Turner is the bee's knees. I love him.

if rock and roll doesn't save us all, then frank turner certainly will
We are not just saving lives, we are saving souls and we are having fun! Wow, Frank you are really onto something here.
Simple, Effective, Unpretentious and Uplifting. What more could anyone want from a song?
First time here. His lyrics are great.
