I'm really glad that over the years NRS has made the effort to correct and improve the lore of the series to better reflect and incorporate East Asian cultures. The first couple games really played fast and loose with it, but this handles it really respectfully. Great casting, too.
Hiroyuki Sanada was 59 years old when he filmed MK back in 2019, let that sink in for a moment. He has so much energy to filmed those fight scene for a 59 year old man and He doesn't aged like at all!! 😱

Hiroyuki Sanada is an amazing actor. I have so much respect and admiration for this actor. First saw him in a TV series called "Uchu kara no messeji: Ginga taisen" when I was young (I'm almost 50 now). And I absolutely loved his character in the Last Samurai. Can't wait to watch this.
I swear, Hiroyuki Sanada gets more badass with every movie he's in.

This is prop the second best fight in the movie, right behind the Scorpion vs Sub Zero. Sadly most of the fights are way to overedited, but these 2 fights are really good.

This looks like a very promising movie. Love that the director and rest of the team really used the r rating to push boundaries and give us the mortal kombat feel from the game. I really hope this movie does well so we can get a mortal kombat cinematic universe.

Respect for highlighting their differences in terms of language, not many people know that. I hope this movie finally cracks the code for converting a game to movie franchise.

The acting in this snippet is superb, the subtle hand gestures Sub-Zero makes is wonderful; definitely looking forward to watching this.
You know, I kind of want to see a full blown series on these two and their back story. For being two of the most iconic characters in the franchise, we haven't exactly gotten the best depiction of their story that wasn't also tied to some serious cheese.

Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero are perfect casting. Best part of the movie imo. Unfortunately, the quick cuts didn’t do them justice. When you have guys like them, there’s no place for quick cuts. And honestly, there’s no place for quick cuts for a MK movie. Lol MK has a lot of martial arts, and not that you can’t cut, but you gotta do longer shots to showcase that better. In terms of the fighting, I hope they don't cut as much for the sequel.

Guys, this movie was AMAZING. As an MK fan I loved every second of it. Far beyond my expectations. THIS is what a Mortal Kombat movie should be!

Hiroyuki Sanada is G.O.A.T.!!! Man's 60 and the way he does all the action is out of this world!
Makes sense with Cole Young having the same mark as Hanzo Hasashi which was teased in the trailer as he is the descendant of Hanzo Hasashi. Hiro Sanada does not look 60 years old to me even though he is in real-life. He was born to play Scorpion/Hanzo Hasashi and same goes with Joe Taslim born to play Bi-Han. Shirai Ryu vs. Lin Kuei. Love the transition shots between Hiro and his stunt double back and forth fell in sync so perfectly.
If that's true that Cole is Hanzo's descendent, then that might be how they get to do a MK 11 homage by having a young Scorpion doing the fighting in the main conflicts while also having an equally badass older Scorpion training the next generation of Shirai Ryu and (eventually) the MKX Kombat kids.
@@lombax316 The reason I say that is Bi-Han says he eliminated the Shirai Ryu Bloodline but Harumi Hasashi hid her baby daughter in the house. So Bi-Han is unaware about Hanzo's and Harumi's daughter being alive. Hence the bloodline for Hanzo is alive starting with his daughter who will grow-up and have a family throughout generations. Also the marking that Hanzo has on his wrist is the same marking Cole Young has on his chest which they showed in the trailer several times already. Interesting enough Lewis Tan looks a lot like Hiro Sanada especially with the face.
@@Brook11223 I was already able to piece that together myself from watching too many promos and reading an article lauding the first 13 minutes but, since the film hasn't come out yet where I live, I have to take it as just theorizing. If you did see it, please don't confirm or spoil anything.

I like that the characters actually speaks the language the suppose to be. This movie is well casted.

I never realize this entire scene was only 7 minutes. It felt longer watching it in theatres.

@@dekumidoria4683 It is a movie with a perfectly balanced performance of both narrating and action.
Any MK fans will love this movie mainly due to so much fanservice. BUT. The fanservice only happens when the action begins. Not when they're exchanging dialogues. Which is why it's satisfying.
This movie tells a different story entirely yet it's also the perfect movie for anyone who has never played MK. Took this opinion from my wife for it.
As for the Fatalities: Flawless.
My opinion of it? 4/5
Definitely would watch again with friends (and my kids when they get older).

Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim are making movie history. Without question, the best Scorpion and Subzero. Give me either a trilogy or a whole cinematic universe of this because this 7 minutes worth has got me hyped for this movie. GET OVER HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw scorpions revenge on HBO max and knew if they started the movie like this it would be great,finally a beginning to our two most epic characters.
