One thing I love is that when the original MK came out all the politicians were freaking out about the violence and how it would affect kids...30 years later we see the only effect it had was giving kids great memories of playing with their friends and families. MK forever.
The fact that they've ended so many old classic rivalries is so good. I love where 11 brought Subzero and Scorpion. Seeing the rest have peace is so nice!
That sub zero is a new one. The original sub zero’s name is bi han and he is killed by scorpion lol. He is the one you see on this trailer and in most of mk’s. Bi han becomes noob saibot after he is killed by scorpion
I love how the timeliness reset isn't just a complete reboot like nothing happened form MK9. Instead it's blending into the already existing Mk universe. I can't wait
Everything besides MK vs DC Universe (I believe) is canon, because MK9 wasn’t really a complete reboot it was a sequel to Armageddon but Raiden changed the events of the past which erased everything up to Armageddon happening and it seems like the same is happening with this game

Just loved it. Captures the essence of MK 1, including Liu Kang's character being more kung fu focused, while respecting his cannon ending of MK 11. Even had a dragon themed fatality.
MK 1 essence in my opinion is when it just focused on the rivalry of scorpion and sun zero and the tournament. This is something straight from a Hong Kong film which I love.

A bit of Blood Sport (the tournament and Van Damme, I mean, Johnny Cage), a lot of Big Trouble in Little China (specially Raiden and Shang Tsung, or should I say Lo Pan), Some American Ninja, some well seasoned Bruce Lee in the form of Liu Kang. It's an amazing amalgamation of everything I loved as a kid and that's why I felt in love the first saw it in the Arcades, and that's why it has been part of my life since.

Raiden and Kung Lao as retired shaolins. Kitana and Mileena as princesses. Scorpion and Sub-Zero as brothers in kombat. Shang Tsung out of nowhere killing them all. And Liu Kang showing no mercy or holding back with him. This is indeed a new era, and we are close to see it rise.
I love how suddenly his voice changes at 1:53 when his voice was calm and peaceful (like his human self is talking) and at 1:57 it suddenly changes to Menacing and Destructive (like an angry god you don't wanna mess with).
As someone who was there for Mortal Monday 30 years ago, its incredible to see how far this series has come. Looking forward to calling up some old friends from elementary and reliving some memories on September 19.

I remember walking into the arcade and seeing MK for the first time. Actually hearing it before seeing it because the crowd around it was so big. So many memories forged around this franchise and friendships still to this day.
Yep back then we could only get info on the characters by waiting for the machine before inserting coins. Then later by reading the pamphlet in the game cartridge
I still remember the arcade I was at the first time I saw a fatality (scorpion). It's incredible to think how revolutionary and controversial those simple fatalities were at the time. MK is just as important as SFII when it comes to fighters, arcades, and video games as a whole

Seeing how Liu Kang now is literally become Goku's level in MK and Jin Kazama in TK has finally mastered his Devil power at will, make me sad how literally nothing Ryu has achieve in SF...even his supposed "Mu no Ken" technique doesn't seem that impress when he beat Necalli...and Necalli is wasted as well...Capcom really don't know how to deliver a badass main hero scene for SF (but in DMC they nail it with Dante). Capcom should have adapt the "Shin Ryu" from the comic to the main canon game. This is the only version of Ryu that I see worthy to stand equal with current Liu Kang and Jin Kazama. Oh and don't get me started with Kyo Kusanagi in KOF...dude just a K-Pop fighter now...
I absolutely love how simple the new logo is. It looks traditionally hand drawn, like a fresh new beginning from the scratch as the theme of the game suggests

My guess for the story is Liu Kang used the "dragonforce" with good intentions, but all it does is F his world up. Like an MK version of flashpoint. Now his "champions" must restore balance, or some BS like that.

I'm guessing that Shang Tsung is from an alternate reality where he won against Liu Kang. That would be the only reason Liu kang couldn't just intervene so easily - Shang would be just as powerful as him

Implying him being an authoritarian God would make him so stupid to fall in the same trap as Raiden.

It's weird to see this and know how things ended; the trailer feels like something else the game never was. It saddens me how it all ended, but everything has to end eventually. May the next MK, WB and NRS know what the hell they are doing.

@Matt M 11 pretty much made them all connect so even the 2011 one wasn't a reboot, the universe was just stuck in a time loop, which has been broken as of 11.

The voice acting in this trailer is top notch. You can hear the different tones Liu uses as he talks about different ideas. sounding serene one moment and then dominating and brutal the next. Sounding gentle with "you have chosen to defy peace" and then becoming ominous, powerful and grave when saying "Then you have chosen war, with a god.
If you actually think about it, he sounds exactly like Past Liu Kang, and Revenant Liu Kang sounds. "You have chosen to defy peace" sounds like the past Liu Kang. But " You have chosen war with a God" sounds just like Revenant Liu Kang from MK11! WTF!!!!!!

Looking back, I honestly thought we'd be given decisions throughout the story based on the trailer. Everyone's paths were pretty straightforward from the start. Sub-Zero was set from the start to be a bad guy/turn. He and Scorpion fought as brothers for about 10 minutes of cutscenes.
This is how you announce a game. I love that the game is coming out September 19. I hate when companies announce a game and then it comes out 3 years later. Can’t wait to play the new story mode.
To be fair, I think generally speaking fighting games don't see the same development hell of other games. I feel as is most of the work is in fine tuning the mechanics. You don't have large sprawling open world maps like most of the RPG games that end up being broken at launch

There was an alternate history where he did not win and Shang Tsung won. Thus, some have made theories that this game is Shang Tsung playing a time God pretending to be Liu Kang. I feel like incredibly violent finishers aren't as good as the ones that mix personality and style, like scorpion in MKX, his first fatality was violent ad brutal but his second one was better because it had more personality and style. This ine nails both of those whilst still making it brutal and it's perfect
It feels like yesterday when I got back from HS and my buddy called me to play the (first) MK game for SNES his mom bought for him, and I surprised him with Scorpion’s fatality, R ⬆️⬆️, the easiest one in the game (or all games, maybe). The fatal blow is a joke dont get me wrong but i thought splitting the meter into offensive and defensive took all the risk/reward aspects of using/saving meter out of the game. Removing breaker for air escapes was also rly stupid. I agree mk11 was great for casual cause i stopped playing it a while ago unlike mkx that i still play ever now and then (piercing mileena is just too fun). The one thing that certainly cant be taken away from mk11 is that roster. Holy shit that roster was incredible, although wont forgive them for putting fujin in a game with air escapes my boy deserves better
I am so captivated by the idea of the characters we know in different "what if" situations we the fans have long imagined. This gives the creators to chance to add more substance to past characters who may have not been done justly.
How the development team manages to out-gross themselves when it comes to fatalities I'll never know. Threse are all so over-the-top horrible and bloody, and I love it.
As an obsessed MK fan, this clip gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. I have a feeling they kept Shang Tsung aside from earlier on to create his own unique story. He's craftier and much more powerful. The new beginning with Shang Tsung has endless possibilities

Fujin was amazing in mk11, if not a tad Extremely difficult to master. I prefer baddies like Kollector (love that blue gremlin child) but I hope they never cut Fujin again.
I was born half a year after the original came out, so I grew up on MK. 30 years later and I still feel a great sense of joy and excitement every time they release a new one.
Liu deserves all of this godliness I've been playing MK since i was a kid for 20 years now and they've done him wrong many times so I'm happy to see the franchise continuing to evolve and doing Liu right.
The Kameo assists thing might piss off people. Those Kameo characters will ONLY be assisting and won't be a full-fledged fighter. Basically, that means one of your favorite characters might be in the Kameo assist list only. Not sure if this Kameo assist thing is a good idea. Time will tell.
So impressed, it attests to their confidence in their development team and marketing. The fact preorder is tomorrow, Beta August, release September is incredible, especially comparing it to SF6 and Tekken 8. I cannot wait to see gameplay footage.
I was 6 when the original came out. My brother, who has since passed, and I used to play for hours. When 2 was released we would beg our mom to take us to a pizza parlor where they had the arcade cabinet version. Amazing memories, MK will always be something special to me. Thank you for keeping this title alive after 30 years.
This new era looks so cool! Looks like alot of what Liu Kang heard from people like Kitana and Scorpion/Sub Zero who wished their conflict with their enemies went differently (Kitana and Melina to be sisters in arms). The return of Shang Sung should be cool too, can’t wait!
More like Scorpion and Sub-Zero is brothers in arms this time. Liu Kang words end with "bitter rivalry" for Kitana and Mileena and "united as brothers" for Scorpion and Sub-Zero. I think Kitana and Mileena still rival, only different is this time they grew up together, like in OG timeline instead

@@ComicBookGuy420 true but even though he's earthrealms champion, both midway and netherrealm studios found a way stick it to him. The 3D era just had Shang Tsung sneak up on him and snap his neck without putting up a fight and then later come back as a mindless zombie. MK 9 saw him defeat shao khan but that wasn't enough to get the job done and the end of the game he's accidentally killed by Raiden with just a little bit of lightning he was using to defend himself (Stryker killing him with a taser would have been a better death than that b.s). MkX saw him as revenant under quan chi's control. And in MK 11 even he's the new ruler of the netherrealm but he didn't come of as a serious threat and still had to rely on shinnoks head in a shrine to have greater power in the realm and then he simply just got erased after past Liu kang showed up. Dude Liu Kang is like the most shitted on fighting game protagonist of all time lol

One thing I love is that when the original MK came out all the politicians were freaking out about the violence and how it would affect kids...30 years later we see the only effect it had was giving kids great memories of playing with their friends and families. MK forever.

Everything besides MK vs DC Universe (I believe) is canon, because MK9 wasn’t really a complete reboot it was a sequel to Armageddon but Raiden changed the events of the past which erased everything up to Armageddon happening and it seems like the same is happening with this game

Just loved it. Captures the essence of MK 1, including Liu Kang's character being more kung fu focused, while respecting his cannon ending of MK 11. Even had a dragon themed fatality.
This isn't capturing the essence of the OG MK1, MK1 is the only about the tournament in earth, this is something else entirely.
mk1 looked like a chinese martial arts movie, mk hasn't achieved that aesthetic for a looong time
MK 1 essence in my opinion is when it just focused on the rivalry of scorpion and sun zero and the tournament. This is something straight from a Hong Kong film which I love.

A bit of Blood Sport (the tournament and Van Damme, I mean, Johnny Cage), a lot of Big Trouble in Little China (specially Raiden and Shang Tsung, or should I say Lo Pan), Some American Ninja, some well seasoned Bruce Lee in the form of Liu Kang. It's an amazing amalgamation of everything I loved as a kid and that's why I felt in love the first saw it in the Arcades, and that's why it has been part of my life since.

Seeing how Liu Kang now is literally become Goku's level in MK and Jin Kazama in TK has finally mastered his Devil power at will, make me sad how literally nothing Ryu has achieve in SF...even his supposed "Mu no Ken" technique doesn't seem that impress when he beat Necalli...and Necalli is wasted as well...Capcom really don't know how to deliver a badass main hero scene for SF (but in DMC they nail it with Dante). Capcom should have adapt the "Shin Ryu" from the comic to the main canon game. This is the only version of Ryu that I see worthy to stand equal with current Liu Kang and Jin Kazama. Oh and don't get me started with Kyo Kusanagi in KOF...dude just a K-Pop fighter now...

I'm guessing that Shang Tsung is from an alternate reality where he won against Liu Kang. That would be the only reason Liu kang couldn't just intervene so easily - Shang would be just as powerful as him

The voice acting in this trailer is top notch. You can hear the different tones Liu uses as he talks about different ideas. sounding serene one moment and then dominating and brutal the next. Sounding gentle with "you have chosen to defy peace" and then becoming ominous, powerful and grave when saying "Then you have chosen war, with a god.
If you actually think about it, he sounds exactly like Past Liu Kang, and Revenant Liu Kang sounds. "You have chosen to defy peace" sounds like the past Liu Kang. But " You have chosen war with a God" sounds just like Revenant Liu Kang from MK11! WTF!!!!!!

Looking back, I honestly thought we'd be given decisions throughout the story based on the trailer.
Everyone's paths were pretty straightforward from the start.
Sub-Zero was set from the start to be a bad guy/turn. He and Scorpion fought as brothers for about 10 minutes of cutscenes.
We should have been given that. I wouldn't mind if we had Story Dlc based on that and Also could choose What Side to be on in the Last Battle.
so nice to see Kitana and Mileena together in peace just for a moment. i hope we get a story with them together.

To be fair, I think generally speaking fighting games don't see the same development hell of other games. I feel as is most of the work is in fine tuning the mechanics. You don't have large sprawling open world maps like most of the RPG games that end up being broken at launch

I feel like incredibly violent finishers aren't as good as the ones that mix personality and style, like scorpion in MKX, his first fatality was violent ad brutal but his second one was better because it had more personality and style. This ine nails both of those whilst still making it brutal and it's perfect

It feels like yesterday when I got back from HS and my buddy called me to play the (first) MK game for SNES his mom bought for him, and I surprised him with Scorpion’s fatality, R ⬆️⬆️, the easiest one in the game (or all games, maybe). Can’t believe it’s been 30 years since then. How time flies is scary sometimes.
Maybe he's just the Shang Tsung of this new timeline rather than the one we saw in 11.

@@hunterwolfe669 for casual mk fans it was fine. Every mk has a good amount of content. But there's a reason majority of the hardcore community brought back mkx. Hopefully mk1 has a more freeform system and no fatal/crushing blow mechanic

@@jesse76thgames80 my biggest issue with mk11 was the seperation of the meter. The fatal blow is a joke dont get me wrong but i thought splitting the meter into offensive and defensive took all the risk/reward aspects of using/saving meter out of the game. Removing breaker for air escapes was also rly stupid. I agree mk11 was great for casual cause i stopped playing it a while ago unlike mkx that i still play ever now and then (piercing mileena is just too fun). The one thing that certainly cant be taken away from mk11 is that roster. Holy shit that roster was incredible, although wont forgive them for putting fujin in a game with air escapes my boy deserves better
I am so captivated by the idea of the characters we know in different "what if" situations we the fans have long imagined. This gives the creators to chance to add more substance to past characters who may have not been done justly.
How the development team manages to out-gross themselves when it comes to fatalities I'll never know. Threse are all so over-the-top horrible and bloody, and I love it.

Before this, MK reveal trailer is about Scorpion kill Sub-Zero. Since this time they feature Liu Kang as the poster boy, who is better for Liu Kang to kill in the reveal trailer rather than his most iconic archenemy - Shang Tsung.

Fujin was amazing in mk11, if not a tad Extremely difficult to master. I prefer baddies like Kollector (love that blue gremlin child) but I hope they never cut Fujin again.

I was born half a year after the original came out, so I grew up on MK. 30 years later and I still feel a great sense of joy and excitement every time they release a new one.

The Kameo assists thing might piss off people. Those Kameo characters will ONLY be assisting and won't be a full-fledged fighter. Basically, that means one of your favorite characters might be in the Kameo assist list only. Not sure if this Kameo assist thing is a good idea. Time will tell.
So impressed, it attests to their confidence in their development team and marketing. The fact preorder is tomorrow, Beta August, release September is incredible, especially comparing it to SF6 and Tekken 8. I cannot wait to see gameplay footage.
I was 6 when the original came out. My brother, who has since passed, and I used to play for hours. When 2 was released we would beg our mom to take us to a pizza parlor where they had the arcade cabinet version. Amazing memories, MK will always be something special to me. Thank you for keeping this title alive after 30 years.

This new era looks so cool! Looks like alot of what Liu Kang heard from people like Kitana and Scorpion/Sub Zero who wished their conflict with their enemies went differently (Kitana and Melina to be sisters in arms). The return of Shang Sung should be cool too, can’t wait!
More like Scorpion and Sub-Zero is brothers in arms this time. Liu Kang words end with "bitter rivalry" for Kitana and Mileena and "united as brothers" for Scorpion and Sub-Zero. I think Kitana and Mileena still rival, only different is this time they grew up together, like in OG timeline instead

The 3D era just had Shang Tsung sneak up on him and snap his neck without putting up a fight and then later come back as a mindless zombie. MK 9 saw him defeat shao khan but that wasn't enough to get the job done and the end of the game he's accidentally killed by Raiden with just a little bit of lightning he was using to defend himself (Stryker killing him with a taser would have been a better death than that b.s). MkX saw him as revenant under quan chi's control. And in MK 11 even he's the new ruler of the netherrealm but he didn't come of as a serious threat and still had to rely on shinnoks head in a shrine to have greater power in the realm and then he simply just got erased after past Liu kang showed up. Dude Liu Kang is like the most shitted on fighting game protagonist of all time lol
