I worked for a very dear friend and buddy, the late Steve Rubell and with, the now "Hip Hotelier 'The King' of Stylish Hospitality", Ian Schrager at the world famous "Studio 54" right here in Manhattan as the director of special event theme parties and In-House Show Producer from the opening of April 1977 with a year off in 1979/80 until it's closing in April of 1986, I would need two life times to tell you the real stories behind "Studio 54".
Very amazing ! Lucky man and im sure you'd have a great tale to tell. Just watched the Netflix bio on 54. I wasn't old enough at the time to even attempt to be there but oh how I wish I had been able to experience it. Definitely write a book my man ! Wonderful experience for you im sure ! 👍🕺💃
I remember going there for the first time- friend at school said try going. There were 4 or 5 guys going through the crowd and were admitted. I was trying to act like I was part of their entourage, but the doorman asked how many in my party. I said just me, and the rope parted. It was $15.00 to get in, which was a lot to a suburban guy accustomed to paying $5.00 to get into the Gemini in Yorktown Heights, but it was Studio 54 ! Sylvester You Make Me Feel Mighty Real thumping. Walking down the entrance hall, past the TV camera, and BOOM ! I'm IN !
You must of tried getting in when it had just opened. I believe they let more people in when the club first opened. As the popularity increased they then introduced the whole 'you can come in and you cannot' policy
I wish I was alive and in my early 20s back in the late 1970s, I'd of loved to had tried to get into this club. Knowing Steve, he probably would have turned me away. lol
You would have gotten in...Steve loved beautiful people...or excentric....and great outfits.....He hated the little cocky loud mouth kids from the bridge n' tunnel...
I remember going to Studio in 1977 and watching Bianca Jagger being led around on a white horse by a naked gay man... Im not sure how I remember this since Im only 12 years old.
Disco will never die !!
