  • This Pied Currawong was calling out to its mate during the breeding season and waiting for a response between calls. After a series of calls with no response, it flies off. It is likely to have a nest nearby in a small nesting and feeding territory it roams.
This Pied Currawong was located in the forests of the Blue Mountains of Australia, known for its soaring sandstone cliffs, eucalyptus forests and waterfalls.

"Large, black, crow-sized bird with large black bill and yellow eyes. In flight, white rump (most subspecies), undertail, tail tip, and primary bases distinctive. Gray Currawong lacks white rump and has narrow pale trailing edge to wing. Smaller Australian Magpie extensively white in upperparts. Common in woodlands and parks, foraging singly, in pairs, or groups from ground level to treetops. Variably fluting song that may sound a bit like “curr-a-wong.”" (eBird)
