They are a great car. Unfortunately, the price point killed these when they were new. Should've been an AWD with a manual option at that price. Today though, they make an amazing daily.

Just taking a few things in from this video. Firstly, 624 TRD Aurions were made (and 351 TRD Hiluxes). The supercharger had a few tweaks to its design (like 4 lobes on the cams instead of 3) to make it quieter and more efficient. The wheels featured in the video are missing the original centre caps. The upspec one had plum coloured interior instead of red, better rear-end bracing, and a couple of other creature comforts. They do go like stink though.

The roads you tested this on were our “Mexico” back in the day. Hilarious car to drive those TRD’s, the early ones had issues spitting SC belts a fair amount, but the later ones didn’t have those same issues.
Very underrated and different. Nice work.

What this car needed was all wheel drive, but I do think it is more visually appealing to look at than say a BF XR6 Turbo or a VE SS. Still a great car, and no doubt in years to come will be a collectable thing for Aussie car enthusiasts. Hope you can get a hold of a Ralliart Magna now.

I still remember driving the original regular Aurion and how much even it struggled to put any power down out of any corner although it was surprisingly quick (quicker than the other Aussie 6s at the time) in a straight line due to its comparatively light weight.
I reckon if they fitted a manual and an LSD it could have been pretty amazing.
Still I like the contrarian/underdog aspect of these or the Ralliart Magna. For the money they go now, I'd love to own one just for the novelty/historical value.

I have a 2010 Aurion ZR6 and really love how it drives. With just over 200kw, it really takes off when you put your foot down (basically, a Camry on steroids). The TRD would be absolutely amazing, as the ZR6 is already a weapon in its own right. However, haven't seen one in NZ yet.

As having owned a TRD Aurion and now daily driving a 2013 Aurion Presara the difference isn't that much. The TRD would have a fair bit more mid range punch when you need it however both being FWD they have to be carefully modulated when taking off from a standstill. And the tech features in the update model Aurions are pretty decent.

I was wondering what this was when I came across one a few days ago near Cranbourne and he gave me an unexpected run. I've got an 06 Hirsch Saab sleeper for a daily, I guess he saw me take off quick at one set of lights but I wasn't aware we were having a go at the next set, since it looked basically like your typical stock Camry/Aurion with a kit, the RZ or whatever. Didn't see the TRD labelling until he was full throttling and pulling away so I hit the pedal and only matched his acceleration without gaining, which is unusual with the 305hp Hirsch tune.
So I was wondering what was actually in this TRD, whether my Saab was losing performance but a supercharged V6 makes sense. I've got a little more torque but he's got a little more hp, similar kerb weight.
Pretty coincidental you say it's a rare car and just uploaded and I just came across one on the road a few days ago. Mind blown.

I think if these things were RWD, they would be ever so popular. They're no slouch, the 2GR is a potent engine - my daily driver is an IS350 with the direct & port injected variant, minus the blower. It's quiet and gives a shock to many V8's when merging two lanes into one on a freeway onramp

The modern day version of this I’d say is the Sonata N Line.
A FWD 2.5L turbo with 213 kW and 422 Nm and no LSD with a quick shifting 8 speed ‘wet’ DCT.
That thing absolutely shreds the tyres and is completely slept on, struggles to put power down from a dig due to massive torque steer but absolutely rips from a roll. I’d say even quicker than a Golf R/Audi S3 from a roll, has a stronger top end.
In Sport+ mode the traction control is automatically turned off, which just adds more tyre spin when you floor it, very similar to the Aurion TRD, a fun yet stupid car, any car with 200+ kW & 400+ Nm from factory being FWD only is just really silly I believe.

  • @SunflowerTwix
    @SunflowerTwix ปีที่แล้ว +1

3:10 I think you mean "Camry". Literally derived from the Asia-market Camry. The Toyota Blade is derived from the Corolla.
7:34 In regards to body roll, TRD Aurions and Sportivo (non-supercharged) Aurions had a stiffer and more sporty suspension than the other models. The other models had a lot more body roll. (can confirm as an ATX owner)
8:10 Only 537 were made, on the ball. :)
9:57 Glad to see a reviewer mention the peddle dance! Such a nuisance to have to do it all the time too!
For those wondering about the intakes on these, by stock these cars already have an extremely efficient intake providing cold air from the tip of the bonnet end above the grille. There has been plenty of testing on the 2GR platform regarding pod filters/aftermarket intakes...it doesn't improve any performance, if anything it lowers it. Wilhelm Raceworks did a heap of testing with different intake designs and came up empty-handed with the data to show. Makes it sound nicer though!
To the owner of #425, she's a beaut!!! Keep her mint! I'm loving the non-melted dashboard! haha

Ross you should try getting your hands on a rarer TRD Hilux from the same era. Came with a petrol supercharged 4.0L V6 and a MANUAL !!!👌
I think they made a little less power than the Aurion but a little more torque, which makes sense in a work ute. Obviously heavier and slower than an Aurion but I think would be more fun being a manual and also RWD for those drives in Mexico 😎
I've briefly driven one and couldn't wipe the smile off my face, mad that it was a factory thing, albeit a rare one, you might even prefer it over the Aurion for a stock standard daily? Still reliable, yet more practical. Would hold their value too I'd assume.
