- Been wanting to do this project for a while now. I started with a cutoff of some cherry. The final dimensions are 3 1/2” tall by 3” in diameter. The opening is 1 3/4” wide. It is finished with Ack’s Abrasive Paste followed by Ack’s Polishing/Restoring wax.
If you would like to try some Ack’s wood pastes yourself, or if you need to stock up, you can save yourself 15% by using the discount code “Doug15” at checkout.
I have recently become an official Easy Wood Tool demonstrator. If you are within 150 miles of Florence, KY, and your club, school, store, or any other event would like a woodturning demonstration, please get in touch with me. I would love to come and make some shavings and dust for your group.
nicely done Doug
Thank you Gary!
It turned out beautifully Doug.
Thanks for watching!
Nice result. I like your demonstration of all your steps
It was a good practice piece. Something I’d not done before but will do again soon. Thanks for watching.
What a beautiful design. You did a great work 👏👏
Thank you so much 😊
That came out really nice, Doug! Great job!
Thank you Billy. Been wanting to give this a shot for a long time. Don’t know why it took me so long to try it. It won’t take me very long to do it again. In fact, I have the next one planned.
Lovely pot Mr Doug! 😃
Thank you Val.
That looks great Doug!
Thank you Luie!
Looks great Doug well done mate.👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice little pot Doug. About the only tools we used at work for turning patterns were scrapers. When ground with the same angle as the carbides being sold for wood turning they did a good job and was the best tool for the accuracy needed. They were not round though and made from bars of Stelliite up to 2 inches wide.
I also love Deft lacquer and used to buy it by the gallon. First used it in 1962 and the fumes must be additive because I am still using it LOL
Deft was what we had in HighSchool shop. We had it in 5 gallon containers. We always mixed it, whether sanding sealer or finish. So we had full strength and diluted there all the time. Thanks for watching my friend.
We had a paint room in the high school shop class. And man did the place fill up with Deft Lacquer fumes. Seemed like everyone like hanging around in there.
Nice pot and awesome design, Doug. I also use carbide tools, almost exclusively. Keep on, Keeping on.
Hey, thanks for watching. I don’t use them exclusively, but I do find that I enjoy using them more all the time. Since I was introduced to them in the 90’s I’ve known that they are excellent at what they do and fit into anyone’s tool collection easily. Thanks again.
Really cool piece!
Thank you. This was a practice piece for something I want to do down the road a little bit. It will probably turn into a series. Thanks for watching.
Doug, that was very interesting demo. I would like to make one as well.
Go for it. I’m sure it will be beautiful. Thanks for watching.
I sharpen my cutters with a Diamond card. Only takes a few seconds and they’re like new again.
Thank you Robert!
👍
Thank you my friend!
Would the native pot have been a gourd?
Usually. They also used clay, stone, and wood. Thanks for watching.
