- Hey bestie, in this episode of our food adventure I am taking you to one of my favourite filipino restaurant in Montreal, called Kalye which means "Street" in tagalog. I grew up in the streets back when I used to live in the Philippines and nothing makes me happy but being able to reminisce the feeling of joy and fun again of being at home and you can make any place at home you just need put your heart and love into it and we are doing it here in Montreal, Quebec. It's amazing at how much tagalog and Spanish sounds alike. For example Kalye=calle=Street. I don't speak Tagalog, but I do speak Spanish and so many words are the same, just maybe spelled differently. I know it's odd but I study different languages and one of the ways I'm able to learn them is hearing the way they cross over (? For lack of a better word).
In the 1600 to 1800s some indio (native) people speak spanish until the americans came and bought the country so English was taught in schools but natives still speak the native toungue. Like me a bisaya from Negros Oriental.
During Spanish time we spoke Spanish and after Spanish time to reclaim our own language they changed the "C" to "K" and spelled the words in their native form but still, the origin is Spanish.
@@valarmorghulis8139 Was Spanish the first language spoken there? Then it got mixed with English and something else? Is very interesting. Like Englishb today is very different from old and middle English. If we met someone who spoke either, we wouldn't understand them.

@q.t.gamingfamily hi Filipino here! No, our native language is not Spanish. We were colonised by Spain for 300+ years, and during that time our ancestors learned Spanish that's why some filipino words sound like Spanish.

My children grew up on mostly Filipino food, as we had a lady living with us for child care while we went to work. My son had a Filipino accent until grade 3, and both spoke a little Tagalog. Both my son and daughter preferred rice for each meal, and both married Asians. I should say my son had red hair and freckles as a kid, and really threw people off when they heard him speak! 😂🙋🏻♀️❤️

I grew up in Hawaii an your making me miss all the good food from there, both my sister's married Filipino's an the food at the party I miss so very much, I don't know if the Filipino food taste the same as in Hawaii, but you so are making me miss it 🤤, the Hawaiian, oriental an Filipino food here in Colorado doesn't taste as good as back home 😢

The way you say Kalie makes me think of the Spanish word calle. Is that the meaning of Kalie?
Yes it is. Many tagalog words are from Spanish
Kalye means street or alleyway.
