I am really happy you are back to old quality. Some great shots(cowboys, bucket) Now I am looking forward to new episodes again. Keep up that standard.
I totally agree about less is more, especially these days where a lot of street photographers walk around with so much gear, although it feels counter productive. For me it's all about simplifying the process. Cheers Robin, great photos.
Yes it makes sense!I have this camera now for 5 weeks in use.It changed my way of looking at the world. You learn to think in strengths of light, the interference of light with the world. The pictures coming out of this beauty have a special character and filmic as well.Noise at high iso is just not an issue up to iso 25600!This gives you much more freedom: freedom in its very limitation. If you want something beautiful , go for the Q2M, you won’t regret!!
I agree with your commentary with regard to the benefits of using a dedicated mono camera. I came across another person's comment. "Imagine photos as your own memories... how many times do you refer to a memory or describe a scene to another person by the colors you saw". Spot on I think.
Bought the M246 Monochrome a few months ago. Did a shoot in Chicago last week, Q2, M Monochrome and M6. By far loved the M Monochrome the most. SUCH a great camera so if you love B&W and its "your thing" it really does make sense to get a dedicated Monochrome. Servus!
I enjoy watching you scout out the scene and look for interesting light. That is a good technique. I also like that you make black and white prints. It brings me back to my days in a high school darkroom. The idea of “less is more” is totally true, even more so today when it is technically possible to carry around gear that covers every type of photography and focal length all at once!
That taxi shot would've been nice with both hands in the air (with the back passenger). Totally agree on your sentiment on the Q2, the more you lock yourself in, the more you start seeing through the forest of potential shots and are free to lock in on what will work for you right in the moment.
Wow @ 11:20 is such a nice photo - great video as always! The oldschool intro was nice honestly man you have the best street photography TH-cam channel hands down just keep it up!
Wieder einmal so tolle Fotos von Dir.Mit der Entdeckung deines Kanals bin ich total fasziniert wie Du fotografierst und an Dinge rangehst.Sehr inspirierend
Hi Robin, great as usual. Thanks for sharing your videos. You are the one who influenced me to buy my dream camera, a leica (M10D). I got it one week ago and I'm so happy to use it. And your last photo is stunning !!
Very spooky, only the other day I was shooting with my Q2 plus a set of monochrome filers. Set the camera to jpgs only and mono hi contrast setting and a red filter which I found to contrasty so changed to an orange filter which I found much better. Was very quite impressed with the images although not as good as using a Q2M and Dng's. great video, thanks.
Such an inspirational video. I usually go to mexico in december to visiti family and i always take three film cameras and one digital and as you said i always double guess myself in regards to what film stock i use( color or b&w ) next time i got i think i’ll just take one film camera, with only b&w film, and the digital for everything else. I just found your channel yesterday and i’m enjoying it quite a lot.
Totally agree with you. B&W shots doesn’t limit you, it focuses your photography in a way. Nevertheless I‘m switching between b&w on film and color in digital. And even color on film using silbersalz35 if I‘m in the mood.. probably should stop switching 🤷🏼♂️
I love the last picture! I love watching your POVs to get excited to go shoot street. Got myself a new X100V finally (first one got stolen). Next week I'm gonna out shoot for longer.
Phenomenal video Robin - I really enjoyed the mixture of philosophy / making the active choice to shoot B&W and a single focal length plus the photo walk and the results. Great to see your chosen photos in print form at the end. I'm torn between #2 and #3, leaning slightly toward the latter. There were plenty of other photos that came close - this was a tough "contact sheet" to edit to the top 4. As for using a monochrome camera in a vivid country, after a few weeks using my new Q2M in Mexico, and comparing my previous GRIII colour/B&W conversions, I'm getting better compositions with the former because I'm not distracted by the colours. No, it doesn't suit every location and every scene, but my eye is starting to focus in on individual elements, shadows, and contrast, with (in my mind) more visually interesting results. It really helps using a monochrome viewfinder too - beats the old Wratten viewing filter by a mile!
i do agree or let’s say I do notice my growth as photographer since I bought my first 35mm lense several years ago. I think using/stick to a prime lense is definitely going help you understand this focal length comparing to using a zoom lense.
I sold my Q2 Mono regrettably and the dark tones are better with the Monochrome than B&W on my normal Q2. The man holding the bucket is an excellent photo. The tones are lush📷👍🏼
I agree less is more. I usually take one lens on my photo walks and stick with it for the day or trip. For pure B&W I use my M2 with TRI-X . Nice video and pictures hombre ✌🏼
I am enjoying your Mexico tour videos The monochrome Q is an attractive camera. I hesitate to get one only because I am not sure I would use it enough to justify the price and I would probably enjoy a 35mm lens more. I like the "cowboy" and morning market "bucket" pictures.
I traded my lumix S1R, 50 1.4, 70-200 f2.8, and 16-35 for the Q2 monochrom. now I have a leica q and a q2 monochrom. I love my setup so much now. I just explore, have fun and take pictures rather then luggin around 50 lbs of gear.
Is there going to be a zine (or maybe even a book?) with the photos from Mexico? I loved your other zines and I think that this trip wouold make for a really nice zine/book as well!
Amazing pictures loved them, the guy the lifting the bucket is outstanding. Do you have a particular technique for getting so up close to people and taking there shot without people know?? Enjoyed this, interesting with great shots!! Thanks for your hard work.
Not a question to me. What amuses me is the use of red filters via VF. I have seen John Free doing it with Nikon F3 and you. I prefer Leica Ms for it and/or external viewfinder. I like yours and others walking videos. Real life documentaries.
Hey Robin. Another great video. Really enjoying your channel. Thanks for all the tips, you make it all look so effortless! If you are ever coming to Ireland drop me a line - I'm in Cork, the south of the country
As always, great shots! To answer your question though, I see no benefit or edge to shooting with this particular camera or any other camera with a dedicated b&w sensor. I've shot with my Nikon D5600, Fuji X-E3, strictly in the B&W setting, and am disciplined enough to stick to one lens and to b&w whole shooting. Not that difficult to do. 🤔
@@therealsirrobin I always shoot RAW and edit and print my photos. But I honestly don't think the "magical" red dot on that camera is going to make anyone's images any better. Anyways, as I previously stated, great images. Thanks for sharing.
@@atroche1978 a monochrome sensor will give you better dynamic range and low light performance since it is more sensible to light without having the color sensors taking up space. Also you get a great variety of grey tones than with a color sensor and converting to b&w digitally. Is it worth getting and use (hopefully) a 6000 Euro camera?? I'd say no but if there is a market for it, Leica would be stupid not to make a product for it. I appreciate your work, Sir Robin ;)

Apologies sir robin I thought I had won a print, I didn't have my glasses on.

Welcome back to my city! It's great to see you photograph things I see daily. Very inspiring
finally a actual photographer talking about a q2 monochrome !
I love that shot with the hand resting on top of the car. I wouldn't have thought to frame it from that perspective. Well done!

When shooting, whether its colour or black and white its all about the light, the tones and the composition. Colour is mostly often secondary.
My favorite is the 4 cowboys, it's the not knowing the reasoning for their posture. As well as the contrast in certain areas.
