I made this merieke deck about two months ago and it's just soooo fun to play. My friend just got a roon deck and wanted to play me in a 1v1. Now he hates me whenever I bring it out! Thank you again! Please more janky edh videos.
Thats EXACTLY why I built this deck, because my buddy built a Roon deck I hated! Thats awesome, I'm glad you like it. I'll try to make more EDH videos, but I definitely put more heart into them, meaning they take longer :/
Haha, Thanks! I try to catch people from the start! Yeah I love this deck, it is my only control EDH deck, but like I said I can't play it much because my playgroup HATES it. And the games take forever because no one wants to put anything on the board.
I've had the card for about a year now and I continually toy with making an EDH out of her. Watching your video has finally spurred me to do something about it, I had no idea about the stack scenario! Thanks a lot, you rock!
She is such a solid commander. It always amazes me how much she can pump the brakes on a game. I do very little for 5-6 turns, get my life cut in half from others, and then in one turn stabilize and shut down all other players.
King of Jank - All of the hexproof and shroud creatures that have been printed since 2011, and everyone using boots is a pain in the ass. Thankfully we have lighthouse, expedition map, and Tolaria West to find it. Disenchant effects also help kill boots. I see people play a lot of flicker/blink with her. What I love the most was how my win condition is whatever your win conditions are. I used a lot of theft effects, including spells which take control of other spells on the stack. You want to play Enter the Infinite? No now I will... and wpuld you look at that?!? I also have a labratory maniac in my deck... because I can play demonic consultation or Helm of Obediance+Rest in Peace combo to exile my own deck and win.
King of Jank - Yeah. I bought into those cards when they were cheap. That is always a factor. Cards which were once dollar bulk rares like Minamo, School at Waters Edge shot up to like 25 bucks and suddenly are no longer budget. Labratory maniac was a $2 rare for like 5 years I suggest looking up the pauper list on MTGSalvation. That is a great thread and deck by the user ZombieShakespear.
Good question! No, according to the rules on Gatherer it wouldn't. I think because her effect tracks whether she remains tapped or not, oppose to action of untapping like Merieke.
You'd do well to put some graveyard use in there like ashen powder, grimoire of the dead, or Liliana vess. There are going to be a lot of creatures in graveyards why not use them?
Thats a good idea. I already have some Graveyard decks, so I wasn't even thinking about that for this deck. I do clear the board a lot, so I should include some recursion. Thanks!
I always thought that once you untapped her, you could re-tap her for another creature before the destruction applies due to it being another instance of her ability.
Sorry for the late reply. I think if you have a creature under your control and untap her, that untap has triggered and the creature will be destroyed. But you could tap her in response to the destroy trigger, stealing something that could benefit from a creature dying.
I'm a little confused. When you untap her the creature should die, because its in the wording of the ability right? How could, you take all 3 bears and untap her, with none dead?
It is a confusing use of the stack, but it works because you don't have control of the bears when you untap her. If you target the bear and in response to the target, untap merieke, you have not gained control of the bear yet, at the moment you untap her. That "gain control of bear" effect is still on the stack. If you target the bear, let it resolve meaning the bear comes to your side of the battlefield, and then untap her, the bear will be destroyed. The trick is responding to your own effects, before they resolve. If you need any more explanation, just let me know!
King of Jank yeah haha, this type of control isnt like the obnoxiousness in modern. Its more my style of play, and i can see myself actually liking it. Yeah, you have counters in it. But, its not the theme of the deck. Creature control is my style of play. If you see the pauper deck im doing a video on itll make sense haha.
As it stands now, we don't have very strong bears unless we put a lot of enchants in the deck. We need some with interesting abilities other than just existing too.
In my experience the players that dont like stax/combo/control are generally novice or inexperienced. Decks without meaningful interaction shouldn't be playable. At its core mtg is a resource management strategy cardgame with fanasty flavor. Well constructed budget decks can function at near cedh levels. The challenge of deck building and piloting it in a competitive enviroment is the fun of mtg even in a casual setting. D&D is the space for collaborative gaming.

No please take your time! I love the your deck tech videos. Now I just gotta save up for that kruphix deck!
Best intros in the business! I loved my MRB deck! I miss pissing everyone off at the table.

No problem! Merieke has a bunch of weird interactions!
Yes, that was exactly the kind of deck I was looking for
Dude I love this video. Great job!
Thanks! I have more EDH planned, but they take a lot of editing.
She was my first commander back in 2007, when it was still called EDH, and I am happy to see people playing her now in 2018, some 11 years later.
She is such a solid commander. It always amazes me how much she can pump the brakes on a game. I do very little for 5-6 turns, get my life cut in half from others, and then in one turn stabilize and shut down all other players.

Your deck sounds alot more intense and expensive than mine, haha, but I like the sound of all that!

I'm thinking of trying Path of Peril in mine, since we don't want their tiny creatures anyway, we just want to keep them from going wide af.
I love your deck tech man please make plenty more!!
Thanks! I have more ones planned, but they take time to do, especially the EDH ones, but stay tuned!
Cool deck tech, thinking of making this for my wife's first commander. She has a player in mind that would despise all the control mwuahaha
Wait does the stax thing work with rubinia
Good question!
No, according to the rules on Gatherer it wouldn't. I think because her effect tracks whether she remains tapped or not, oppose to action of untapping like Merieke.
Ahhh ic!! thx I was wondering because i play rubinia over merieke mostly because i like BANT thx for he info tho
Would sundial of the infinite work with rubinia or just merieke?
Honestly I don't know if the returning of the creature goes on the stack. I feel like it wouldn't work, but I'm not sure. Sorry :/
Ahhh ic thats cool keep up the awesome videos!!! And you should try rubinia shes great!!!

You should look up the Merieke Pauper list on mtgsalvation. It has a lot of great ideas.
Wanna save on mana....illutionist's bracers

@@KingofJank Ohhhhh I understand, thanks!! That is going to make a ton of people mad tonight lmaooo
For an edh deck i like it alot bro! I just might have to test run it on mtgo and see how it goes.
Thanks!...Are you seriously going to run a BLUE control deck!?
King of Jank yeah haha, this type of control isnt like the obnoxiousness in modern. Its more my style of play, and i can see myself actually liking it. Yeah, you have counters in it. Bear edh will one day overcome all enemies!
We need a bear commander, and then the prophecy will be fulfilled.
As it stands now, we don't have very strong bears unless we put a lot of enchants in the deck. We need some with interesting abilities other than just existing too.
