Once again, this remind me the hard work of performer and stage director. There are big things had to rehearse, techniques of the performer and the stage props. The outcome of 2 hours, 20 minutes, and even 3 minutes is the result of hard work.

I think their performance at MAMA 2018 japan for fake love is so amazing. Thats the best fake love performance. Here, MMA 2018 is great but MAMA 2018 japan is better. You should find the full one as the original one uploaded in cuts so i afraid you gonna watch it not in order.

I think you gonna really like it. The only thing messed up was lighting as its too dark but overall its was such amazing performance!

Thank you for your expose on story-telling in music and musical performance. Human beings love music and song. They help us remember and they trigger our memories. They can evoke or even manipulate our emotions.
I also liked when you stated the boys "use every tool they have" when it comes to story-telling. Most only notice their presence on social media and how effectively they harness TH-cam, Twitter, and the like. Yet as you point out, they effectively utilize the tools of their trade: song, dance, facial expression, body language, costume, etc.

I was there and it was SO great! I have seen them now 2 times live and they are insanely good
BTS behind the scenes have always talked about narrative, story structure. Like the risk they took trying to build a 2.5 year story - the Love Yourself Series. They talk about how they discuss the different stories they want to include into a song. Which is why none of their songs have or have a single clear interpretation, but instead follow a general emotional moment or arc. They spend so much time on that, it reflects in their performances, even when more than a few of them have expressed that they would never be good actors, would never want to go into the acting business.

FUN FACT: you mentioned the importance of story line, this performance is during their promotion of the Love Yourself album and Fake Love but the intro is full of hints for their next project or album which is map of the soul: persona. One is the mask, it represents persona and notice the boxes where they are dancing individually it has a shape of a letter PERSONA seven letter, one for each member, they always plan what are they going to do way before and give some hints... that's the beauty of the BTS- army relationship you have to think and dig deeper.

Hello Dr Marc, thank you for taking time for sharing some informative pointers, knowledge and insights in your reaction videos, we really appreciate it. Let mo also add this some information about this performance in case you wanna know some specific detalis. The performance you've watched showed how BTS incorporates their performance to the Korean Tradition and Culture. If you noticed the music in Idol, you heard some background live playing korean traditional instruments which added more festivity atmosphere in their performance. The solo that was performed by the 3J (jhope, Jimin, jungkook) was also part of Korean traditional dance..
Jhope- traditional drum dance
Jimin- traditional fan dance
Jungkook- traditional mask dance.
Jimin even received an award from the cultural conservation society for his epic fan dance.
To add on, they're also wearing those "hanbok" a traditional korean attire being used in some festivals and ceremonies. This was actually one of their best performance in an award show, my second favorite is their MAMA 2016 full performance, I hope you can react on that too, it was also one of their legendary performance of all time.

Operatic is a good word for BTS's performance. Its storytelling is one of my favorite aspects of this band.
I love how even their albums structure in a way to tell a story. I wasn't the biggest fan of the album, LY: Her, until after analyzing it along with the other 2 albums in the same series. I wasn't really into the bright yet somewhat immature message of the first album until I realized that was the point. Each album even changes in musical tone as it journeys in the stages of finding true love, reflecting the different parts of the story. The trilogy, all together, tells the story of how love matures and where the foundation for true love should be: a love of one's own self. A beautiful message, I believe and another reason to adore their music.

Even the instruments used tell the story in this version of Idol they didn't just speaking back at all the 'haters' they are saying you can call use whatever you want it's not going to make us hate ourselves. The Korean dress, the fan and the sleeve dance traditional Korean as is the drum sound and the flute sound. This is because they'd received hate on the grounds they were too Westernised. Yes they tell a story their story. They rap and sing about things and concepts that are not the norm in music.

Like some other people have undoubtedly already told you, BTS actually has a fictional storyline that runs through their music videos and other content. They use the year end award shows to drop hints about the storyline or new albums as well.
