A lot of people prefer " got you" however, I saw a lot of native speakers say " I understand" Frankly speaking, there is no right or wrong, it absolutely depends on the person's style, or habit. Different people have different expressions.

Yes, it's a matter of the social context. When you boss explains something to you, "I understand the situation better now".
At a meeting or with a colleague, "Yes, I got that point. My point is about another aspect of....."

If I hear someone say "I realize that" or "I'm aware of that" instead of just saying "I know", my first thought as a native English speaker is to think they are upset with me for something I did or said. I hope your students don't encounter that problem.

You mean with someone you know well, don't you? What about a person you've never been with? Wouldn't it be a more polite way to approach this person?
I'm not English. And the equivalence in my language "of aware of" or "I realize" would have the same "upset" to me even more, I'd expect a curious excuse from whom is saying aware/realize. Literaly translate into English would be "badly paid people excuses". Maybe you can make up these kind of excuses and tell me the equivalence in English. Thanks a lot.
May I answer sth to you: You write Realize and Lucy Realise. More words: regconize/recognise, apologize/apologise. Could you tell which, maybe why. I don't know., whatever you feel. Thanks a lot.

The advice to listen-while-we-read works for me. When I pick up something difficult like Shakespeare, after years away from it. It helps me create the scene, in my mind. as well as help me with some of The Bard's obscure wording.

There's nothing wrong with saying 'I know' or 'I understand ' Lucy. As a native English speaker, I use most of your alternative suggestions, but in some circumstances they can appear overly formal, or even make some people feel you're talking down to them.

For some reason in America “ whilst “ is replaced with the word “ while “. Whilst is rarely ever used in American English. The same with “ surname “ is replaced with the two words “ last name “.

Regarding the usage of “like”, it would be nice to hear a lot of people be more authentic. I was like...so she was like...and then we were all totally like.... The usage of “Perfect” is another. Is it working a little better now? Yes, it is working a little better than it was. Perfect! Is the food hotter now? Yes. Perfect!

I am with Lucy that Audible is really an amazing platform. but I want to recommend a way that I follow similar to it if you can't use the platform for any reason . first I download any book or short stories from the store ,after that I copy what I have to read and translate it on google ,I listen to the story with any accent I want and finally I try to imitate pronouncing the new words and that's it . since I did that, my English has apparently been way better 💜
