If I am understand correctly the founding values of Leatherman were to make compact ready at hand tools for the average Joe and Jane who wanted to exercise their right to repair their stuff(like a car while in europe). These sprint runs, artificial scarcity tactics are not inline with those original values. The ploy to discourage scalpers was worth a shot though maybe not as well thought out as it should have been.
It is my thing. I paid for it. If I sell it and they, somehow, find out and delete my account... oh no! The account that I used to give them money for their things no longer exists! I guess I can't do that anymore. *Shrugs intensely*
It did say "limited" I like mine which I bought the minute it was available and I like having a tool that is somewhat rare. I have been using it and will continue using it. I also carried my Garage #5 for many months. It's what they are for!

In the description it said limited to 5,000 lol. I'm kinda surprised it lasted as long as it did. I came really close to getting one during the sale but didn't since I have the garage 005 and don't use it because of how valuable it is. I opted to get a fully customized arc instead. It's a 1 of 1 and I'm not afraid to use it.
I was a big collector of many things. I don't even want to mention how much $$ I had tied up in things that I wouldn't touch/use. Then in 2015 we had a house fire that burned to the slab. It was so hot that our stove and ovens were just vaporized with no trace, even granite counters were just gone. I lost swords and knives, couldn't even find dribbles of metal on what remained of the slab. The slab shattered as well. Of course the insurance company (who's not a good neighbor) said to show pictures or give receipts which were all ash or decades gone so not reimbursable. Ever since the fire I've said heck with it, if I like something I use it. Knives that would have gone in a display case are my edc now, I don't regret it. Yolo.
How come there's no clones of the Crunch yet? I carry vice grips every day along with a multitool, but I don't even have $500 in m account right now, nevermind $500 disposable income to spend on a Crunch.
No one cared about the Crunch until it got discontinued and became a collector's item. The handle tends to pop off and it's objectively not that good of a tool.
Leatherman has become a ridiculous company, forcing overpriced items and mistreating the customers when they decide to sell their property freely, if this is now the norm with them, if the cancellation culture is their new policy, they are not a respectable company anymore. Shame on Tim Leatherman.
I have already canceled them. When they decided they wouldn’t make warranty repairs on a Leatherman tool that was gifted to me, because I was not the original purchaser, which I stated in my email to them, that irritated me, but what really did it for me was that they wouldn’t even make the repair at MY expense, the final straw was that they also wouldn’t sell me the replacement part, their stated reason, “I’m not a factory trained & qualified assembler.” How arrogant of me, a lowly aerospace engineer that works for a small aerospace manufacturing company, well a couple hours in the tool room & then the machine shop and I got some pretty nice replacement parts, but then again I’m not qualified to loosen a couple of screws. I chose not to buy the Arc obsidian, I already have an Arc, I also have just about every other Leatherman multitool ever made. The arc was the last one I’m going to purchase. Leatherman is here by canceled. Bye Felicia.😂
No matter how perfect a multitool is, if it's as expensive as the Arc I'm not buying it. Period. There's a line in the sand financially, even for multitools. And the Arc has "we got you, suckers" written all over it.
I’m primarily a knife guy and when I saw the price of the ARC, I initially had the same thought as you, but for Magnacut blade steel, you’ll easily pay over $100 for just a knife, so it was worth it IMO since you’re getting all the additional functionality with the tools. Maybe for you it still doesn’t justify the purchase. Everyone is different.

i really like the arc. it's not perfect but it's great for what i need. other than just the fact that i want to be able to have a couple for different uses, i don't need any more leatherman products and their continual discontinuing of products makes me worry about any warranty support 10 years from now.
They sent me an email when it first came out that said it was a limited edition. They were available for several weeks. If you want one buy it when it comes out. Personally I like Leatherman tools I carry them. I buy them for my family and friends. And I like to collect them. They are fun and useful. Just enjoy this amazing American made product.

I got my Obsidian during the annual sale just recently and something told me to not even cut the seal, so now I just have it on my shelf which sucks because my favorite leatherman tools are the “murdered out” ones! I’m privileged to have a Charge in all black that I carry every day!
Wow did not expect this. Was able to buy when Leatherman had discounts and love Obsidian. I'm not leatherman person but the Arc changed my mind. Really appreciated it as a well made tool. Mine also has great action and I enjoy balisong with it. Has pretty decent fidget factor. Bought this as daily but this maybe changes my mind. Now thinking so lucky to own one but also that they will come out with another limited run, possibly sooner than later? And if so then collectors maybe want to snap up one of next run if that happens. 🔪

I was able to get the Obsidian for less than the original Arc thanks to the annual sale (that your video alerted me to at the time). I wasn't aware that it was that limited when I got it. Seeing the crazy eBay prices, maybe I would have left it sealed in the box! I haven't even touched the sheath and have no desire to since reviews indicate that its terrible.
I got one of those during this last sale and I had a 25% off coupon so it was $206 to me so I just couldn't pass on it. It is beautiful and I have been carrying it but I lost one ARC that I replaced and will now switch back to. I would be heartbroken if I lost the Obsidian ARC. I have never managed to get any garage or limited ed. of anything before and I didn't know about that clause. Thanks for the info on that! edit: I take back my statement that I never got anything limited. I got one of the last run of the Crunch and I got a Juice XE6. Both of those don't leave the house.
I’m not sure the requirement not to resell it is legal in all states. That could get them in trouble. I think it’s the Spyderco sales scheme. Let’s crate an artificial scarcity and use it to drive sales. However, they screwed that up by trying to limit resale. However, is running Leatherman marketing should really rethink this strategy. As you said it’s only going to cause hate and discontent. The only other thing I can think of is of is if the products were labeled incorrectly they have some other legal flaw in the USA.
Probably the made in USA stamp. No way in hell is the Arc USA made. I've had two. An original and an Obsidian. Both have crazy frame flex, a garbage heat treat on the blade, wire cutters break on wire that even my Gerber Center-Drive can cut, and the scissors and bottle opener on the Obsidian are totally useless. Thing reeks of china or pakistan

Well crap. I also really liked this variant. I just started using it as my edc tool and purchased a kydex holster for it as well. Now I guess I’ll be boxing it back up and figure out if I’m going to spring for a regular arc as an edc or downgrade and resurrect my wave or charge..
It *was* just another color, though. A limited colorway is still limited, but it's not like there was any added functionality or more-premium materials. I agree that Leatherman has really lost its way. Very sad.

At 225.00, for miniature tools .I'll stick to my gerber thank you, 3 inch blade, 3 inch saw, 3 inch file and basically a channel lock pliers, I did however get the curl and the rebar..but I won't spend that much on a multi tool
No account here and sent a 2004 Wave in. They replaced everything. Even the pliers. Leaving my engraved handles. I was amazed since the issue was a snapoed file. This was 2021 though.
Damn it,I wanted one cause they fixed the stiffening issue of the pliers on the Arc,but I can't get one,I'm ok with my Arc,I don't mind using my finger in-between the handle to open the tool while working. So sad I couldn't get my hands on one
Topic change: Crunch. The original Crunch, not Mr. Crunch. What's the deal with pricing? Other than a hiatus a few years ago, the Crunch had a more than 20 year production run. The pricing on these is nuts. It's not that long ago that you could buy as many as you wanted from just about any Leatherman dealer (or Leatherman itself).
So is there any difference in functionality or quality between the obsidian vs the standard arc? If not, I guess I'm missing why it matters of there is one that is a EDC versus another than is collectible. Who cares?

I love mine, but it's still a tool. I may use the original ARC a little more now, but I bought it to use it so that's what I'll do.

Tools are meant to be used. If i break it or lose it I’ll get another… it’s unfortunate though. It is a really nice unit.

Damn it,I wanted one cause they fixed the stiffening issue of the pliers on the Arc,but I can't get one,I'm ok with my Arc,I don't mind using my finger in-between the handle to open the tool while working. So sad I couldn't get my hands on one
Topic change: Crunch. The original Crunch, not Mr. Crunch. What's the deal with pricing? Other than a hiatus a few years ago, the Crunch had a more than 20 year production run. The pricing on these is nuts. It's not that long ago that you could buy as many as you wanted from just about any Leatherman dealer (or Leatherman itself).

Unfortunately, Canada is the only option for the country for it to be delivered in. There's no option to change it to the US.
So is there any difference in functionality or quality between the obsidian vs the standard arc? If not, I guess I'm missing why it matters of there is one that is a EDC versus another than is collectible. Who cares?
