This is speculation so take it with some salt:
In an artbook for GvK there was a cave painting that showed both Godzillas and Kongs fighting against some flying monster that resembled a Godzilla with wings. According to the artbook this creature was called “Zo-Zla-Halawa” and became evil after eating a star. Some speculate it could be hinting at a Monsterverse version of Spacegodzilla.

So, I'm think it's a Kong that's been hiding in the Hollow Earth, not drawing Godzilla's attention, since Godzilla controls all the exits from the Hollow Earth. The only land based exits were Skull Island and Antarctica. Skull Island's exit was destroyed, and the Antarctic isn't hospitable. It's probably been living off the Hollow Earth energy, explaining it's lack of musculature, and why it's eyes glow like Godzilla's.

Given that Godzilla has tussled with a gorilla looking creature called a "Gargantua" named "Gaira," you might be right. Hell this might be a reinterpreted version of Gaira.

Betting this is an ancient King of the Kong species and for Kong to become "King" Kong will have to defeat this potential threat. Assuming they are taking inspiration from the OG GvK where King Kong had electrical powers.
Those powers were a joke. It was only for few moments and gave him energy. Watch the fight here in you tube that toho kong was just on another level. Toho made that kong a lot more durable and stronger than even without the powers.
It’s actually really funny why kong had electrical powers to begin with. The movie was originally Frankenstein’s monster versus King Kong (he would have been kaiju size for some reason). King Kong would’ve been the underdog in the movie, and Frankenstein’s monster would’ve had electrical powers. When they switched it to King Kong versus Godzilla, Godzilla was changed into the underdog fighter. So king Kong got the electrical powers Frankenstein‘s monster was suppose to have. Really weird.
