The song has a fascinating history. It was written by Sherman Kelly in 1969 while he was recovering from a vicious gang attack. The lyrics were intended to create an alternate reality where everything was happy all the time. His group Boffalongo recorded it in 1970 and it went nowhere. Then Kelly’s brother Wells and another member Doc Robinson recorded it with their Paris based American band King Harvest. One year later, after King Harvest disbanded, it was released in the US and went to #13. King Harvest reunited to tour behind the song. They still do reunion shows today. Toploader had a hit with it in the late 90s. This version is based after the Toploader version.
