In 1973, when we had a hit with Sherman Kelly's Dancing on the Moonlight, it was unimaginable to think that four generations of listeners around the world would be enjoying the song 20 years into the next century!. Toploader brought Dancing in the Moonlight into the 21st century where it is now firmly established as one of the most successful songs to come out of the 70s. Kudos to them.
My Dad loved this song and it was played at his funeral service as the last song. And it still manages to make me smile, even though I thought it'd hurt to listen to it afterwards. It's a great song and my Dad had great taste in music.
There is something haunting yet wholesome about the end of the video 3:40 because the music pans out and its just empty rooms. It is like a subliminal "We were here, we had fun, now we're gone" crazy.
I remember me and my husband would always dance to this song every night when we would go to a bar. 3 years ago he past away with cancer, and everytime I hear this song I just want to remember him with me all the time. I miss him so much
I worked on this video. It was a mad shoot. We had to clear out an entire house in New Cross. It was about an 18 hour day if I remember. The video still looks great to this day. I remember the director loved those fairy lights and put them all over the place. I spent a lot of the time encouraging people to dance on the top floor to keep the vibe going :) Those were the days, hanging out with fashion models and going to wild parties - another lifetime :) This is the first time I have actually watched the whole video! I worked on so many back in the day but I remember this one.
I honestly have no idea what feeling this song gives me, it’s like a mix of happiness, regret, nostalgia, gratefulness, idk it’s just a rainbow feeling song.
This song played when I was 17 and my mom was dropping me to the bus that took me to what Americans would know as a dance my school has before "prom". Got fucked up, had a sick ass time with my boys and made great memories
This is exactly why it was written in the first place, in fact it's quite a sad story. Writer of the original, Sherman Kelly says; "On a trip to St. Croix in 1969, I was the first victim of a vicious gang who eventually murdered 8 American tourists. At that time, I suffered multiple facial fractures and wounds and was left for dead. While I was recovering, I wrote "Dancin In The Moonlight" in which I envisioned an alternate reality, the dream of a peaceful and joyful celebration of life."
That's the exact reason I listen to it, it takes me away not just from my anxiety, but quite frankly my PTSD, it's an amazing song, especially when their are positive memories linked to it
My brother turned the volume on when this song came up in his playlist. We were driving along a highway surrounded by mountains on both sides facing toward the sunset. It was so beautiful and for once in awhile, I felt like there’s nothing to worry about and I wanted to remember this moment as long as I can.
I lost my best friend Tom 2 years ago from a overdose, while going through some old boxes I found a few burned CDs that were his when we were in high school, he gave me them years back. Well the first song was this one. I'm going to give this CD to his sister, after I'm done crying like a little girl.
Hope your doing okay...I'm really sorry but at least you have memories to remember him by and if it has to be any song to remember it's great that it's this one. (:

song is very special to me. When I was in the fourth grade our school was participating in a field hockey tournament in the next town. I took the transport the school provided, seeing as my family hadn't owned a car at the time. After the tournament was finished me and 2 other of my teammates were the only ones taking the bus home. Our driver the coach took us to McDonald's and told us we could have anything we wanted. On our way back this song came on the radio and we sang and enjoyed ourselves very much.
This song reminds me of the feeling after a feel-good movie, when the credits start rolling up and you just sit there with the feeling that life is good and that everything will just turn out okay. I don't know how to describe that feeling of bliss, but this song is that explanation. I cannot express how much I love this song.
It's so amazing that such a traumatic event inspired such a beautiful song. Life's all about perspective I guess and you can literally make the best out of your worst moments too.
This song hits hard, I used to listen it with some friends in high school on our way to revise for exams at the library, then one of them died unexpectedly the year after I left. I listened to this on repeat the week of my friends funeral. She would have been in her 30s now, she was only 16. Be grateful for every day x
Yeah, then it ends and your problems continue. Sounds like alcoholics. Drink to forget, but as soon as you sober up, the problems are still there, so they constantly drink to be away rather than solving the problem to begin with.
So I used to work in this italian restaurant in Clapham Common, in London. I'm italian myself, and I wanted to work abroad for a while. I packed my things and left. The restaurant was busy and had this repeating playlist that basically shuffled 30 songs over and over. This was the BEST tune we had, I remember being so happy serving the customers with this music, it brings me happiness just to think about it again. Music is truly a great thing

I work in a bar (in Italy) and the boss always plays some kind of TH-cam playlist, but when the good song finally comes around you'll see me truly smiling, not just smiling to be nice with the costumers 😅 and I'll try to move and do everything following the rhythm ahah
This was the last song I listened to with my parents. I’m currently sobbing, because I can never get that feeling of pure bliss, listening to the radio, ever again. I love you Mami and Papi. Soon, we’ll be dancing together, dancing in the moonlight.

Heard a little piece of this song days ago on a Facebook short. It didn't say the name of the band or the song, nothing. It has been living rent free in my head since then. I just loved it.
I bet many here have no idea that this is a remake...crazy that when u put this title in TH-cam search it should always have the original as the very first choice to oick.
@@ossyable I completely agree about King Harvest - I think this Toploader version is missing the chorus harmonies (also enjoy the Orleans version - I think the bass player is from King Harvest).
Yeah. You can blame today’s music, often played more than these underrated songs. Btw, According to the original song, it was made for more than 10 years.
When this song came out I was partying and getting high in college and starting a family wasn’t even an option in my mind, now I’m listening to this on AirPods with my wife and son sleeping next to me, shits cray
I Remember first hearing this in the CBC radio channel in Canada Alberta. The channel would switch to different radios host at different times etc? I couldn’t get this song out of my head till that day over 12 years ago👍🏼
Due to my ageing memory, I didn't recognize it at first as one of the amazing songs of my teen years in the 70s but rewatching the original version, I realized this band performed it in a slower pace which I liked even more though the vibes of the 70's are obviously irreplaceble and the bitter-sweet memories of an era long gone too precious.
I swear this song helps you get through your day, if you are having a bad day listen to this and it changes you entire mood and energy towards the day. This song hits different😁
This song gives off the best vibes I have ever received from music. It’s just so happy. It’s something you play to drown out your problems, and drink a beer with peace of mind. Absolutely beautiful
Benji_Skywalker Gotta live with no regrets,I think we all have times in our lives that we miss,People. Thats what life is about tho. Listen to the song Cool change by Little rive band.
I'm 64 and due to my neuro issues I didn't recognize it at first as a song of my teen years. Although we'll always love the original version, this band sang it with a slower pace and I love it as we can enjoy the amazing vibes much better!
In this absurdly hot Italian summer night, I'm listening to this song, chills running through my body, bawling my eyes out because of this song and what it reminds me. When I was a kid, 10 years ago there was a tv ad about an Italian drink called estathè and this song played in the background. Everytime i watched it on tv I used to feel incredibly happy to be alive. It was about the first experiences of a lifetime and pictured the perfect Italian summer with you know vespa, friends, parties at the beach at night and so on. I don't know, it just felt the best time of one's life, it struck me deeply at the point that even today 10 years passed and when I hear this song i immediately remember those times, when being a kid with no trouble, no anxiety and when I lived those awesome moments. This song is so nostalgic that it actually hurts. Too many memories. It's so meaningful and will be my all time favorite summer song for the rest of my life.
I know right! It makes me so sad and teary eyed because I remember all the fun memories when I was younger with this song I made fun videos and everything!
Sherman Kelly released this, july 9, 1972 after the tragic events. Kelly and his girlfriend were jumped by a gang while they were trying to spend the night on a beach together. They were both severely beaten. Sherman Kelly is still alive as of this writing, 80 years old🫡 For those who don't know💛
Picture this: Your hanging out with your friends and you are all having a good time walking around laughing and enjoying the night while you are still young and living like there is no care in the world and this song just plays over and over it's such a good thought
Back during my first love, this was 'our song.' The original, anyway. That was 14 years ago. The song always hurt to listen to, even long after it felt like my heart healed. Hearing this version, it doesn't hurt anymore. It's just happy.
Toploader appeared at Dartford Festival yesterday , i was there earlier but i didn't get the chance to watch them unfortunately Loved this song growing up
What a GREAT wonderful tune! It’s hard to believe the original came out fifty one years ago. It’s Dec. 2023 today and I may be old, but this song always makes me smile, groove, and feel young!
the body may be getting older. but that heart of yours is still as full of passion and care as it always has been! make sure that flame never dies will ya?
"Dancing in the Moonlight" is a song originally recorded by the French-American rock group King Harvest. The song was written by Sherman Kelly, produced by Jack Robinson, originally recorded in 1970 by Kelly's band Boffalongo, and then released as a single by King Harvest in 1972, reaching number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2000 a cover by English band Toploader became a worldwide hit and achieved multi-Platinum status in the United Kingdom.
I don't know what the reason is but everytime I hear this song, it hits a certain spot in my heart and it makes me almost cry. beautiful song as always 🥰
This is a piece of art. The entire thing, video and music, lyrics.. it's just beautiful!! And it feels so happy and uplifting. I hope everyone is able to have a moment of joy listening to this.
They played this one of the years for my school's year end concert, before more dark stuff came into my life. I just remember dancing like an idiot with my buddy when this song came on. We were messing around, and I dunno if he remembers it, but i sure as hell do. Thanks for the memories, song.

Heard a little piece of this song days ago on a Facebook short. It didn't say the name of the band or the song, nothing. It has been living rent free in my head since then. I just loved it.
This song hits such a perfectly delicate balance between pumped up and chilled out.
I love the way you think
A perfect song for a dance before an apocalypse

Perfect
giulia thomas he’s talking about umbrella academy
LMAO HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
I understood that reference
This is one of the few songs I hear at work (I work in a grocery store, the music is terrible) that makes my day better and puts me in an upbeat mood.
:D
Heard this on the intercom for the first time in months today! Made my day.

This song gives off a nostalgic feel that you've never even experienced
Yeah nostalgic feel of when you used to play Premier League football then suddenly you find yourself in the Coca-Cola Football League... FML
It does but the original version gives all the feels
Probably cause it's a cover from the 70s
i can imagine any animated movie i have seen having this as the credits song
Really? Wow. Thats so interesting.
63 years old and reminiscing profusely. Adored the original. Lovin’ this one to the max. Memories galore. Hail the 70’s!
I bet many here have no idea that this is a remake...crazy that when u put this title in TH-cam search it should always have the original as the very first choice to oick.
Only just found this out last week. I like the king harvest version
@@ossyable I completely agree about King Harvest - I think this Toploader version is missing the chorus harmonies (also enjoy the Orleans version - I think the bass player is from King Harvest).
I am quite sure that they are copying Miley Cyrus - Flowers🤔

Absolutely, beautiful song .
Discovered this song past midnight whilst driving alone and ... It was such a perfect moment - just me and the radio . 💯💯💯
What? Where have you been for the past 10 years?
You hear it now but not back then??
Yeah. You can blame today’s music, often played more than these underrated songs.
Btw, According to the original song, it was made for more than 10 years.
Yeah you told me that yesterday.
Id rather have my picture taken with the the batmobile
When this song came out I was partying and getting high in college and starting a family wasn’t even an option in my mind, now I’m listening to this on AirPods with my wife and son sleeping next to me, shits cray

Due to my ageing memory, I didn't recognize it at first as one of the amazing songs of my teen years in the 70s but rewatching the original version, I realized this band performed it in a slower pace which I liked even more though the vibes of the 70's are obviously irreplaceble and the bitter-sweet memories of an era long gone too precious.
this song has made me cry multiple times because it genuine made me happy, something i've been lacking the past years

I remember that ad! Never forget it, it keeps things bright.
I know right! It makes me so sad and teary eyed because I remember all the fun memories when I was younger with this song I made fun videos and everything!
