The Weapon Dragon is an phenomenal camera. Helium is still my favorite sensor they've made but that Dragon is a close second. Best skit tones IMO. It can also intercut really well with Alexa Mini footage. I've done pickups on Dragon when the rest of the project was Mini and matching in the grade was super easy. I love the DSMC2 body as well. So many amazing productions have used it, it's honestly a top tier purchase considering how affordable it is now.
I honestly can’t believe how well ive been able to grade the pdw-700 footage. It’s a camera a friend of mine and I found. Literally in a dumpster. But I thought it was worth taking home and seeing if it worked. DumpsterCam!
That is really Amazing. You got a crazy good deal. I am searching for GEMINI 5K nowadays, but I still need to be lucky that you are. But a lot of RED is now coming on eBay, and you will see more in the future as technology gets very advanced. Red has also gone with Nikon; people need to know what is next, and the Media is the most expensive part. But RED finally moved with CFexpress Type B that is so cheap and fast. And easly available, I am checking right now the 2TB Card on BH Photo cost just 400 dollars including tax. Yes, Red Ranger is the best right now; many of them are coming from eBay. And they are the best. And a fraction of the cost, as I see, is 9k or less. And accessories right now on ebay available.
I think you really nailed the audio in the 50’s flashbacks. I would love to know/learn how you did it. That’s probably the best version I have seen. Share? :)
Its actually just a plugin called Izotope Vinyl. Its free and super simple, but Ive been using it for a few years now. Crazy how good it is. And thanks for the comment Scott! Big fan!!
Before 5 years i spend 25.000€ for my RED Gemini. Before i had the Dragon X with Dragon sensor and sometime i miss the look from the dragon. The Gemini looks super clean and safe, i can shoot this camera the next 8 years and it would be top tier. Have fun with your camera ❤🎉
@@graphstyle true. I think my next Camera will a red dragon again. I upgraded my Dragon X to a Gemini for 5k$. I love the Dragon look more but it's not a everyday camera. 😊
Hello! Do you have any footage from this red dragon camera to share? I'm looking to upgrade my current BMPCC 6K OG to either BMCC 6K FF or Red Komodo, or this. I see that a lot of people say that dragon sensor beats komodo in terms of color science and image quality but I just don't understand how it's possible since you choose your pipeline in post. That's why I've been trying to get my hands on some footage so I can see for myself if it's worth it. Thank you!
Personally, I still take my Epic-MX further than most people can with Raptors. I am now looking at upgrading to this version. The value is absolutely nuts and I feel it is a straight up price mismatch in the market because people just think more money more new camera means their work will be more better. Their loss our gain.
I shot those (and different parts of the whole thing) on an old Sony PDW-700 2/3” hd broadcast camera (upscaled to 4k). The b&w part specifically on a very funky standard def lens from an even older Betacam SP camera. I was just trying to get as soft and imperfect an image as possible for the base look out of camera. Then did the black and white grade with the old version of Filmconvert from a few years ago, plus an overlay of really dirty film grain i found to finish it off.

nopeYOU MISSED 2 vv 8k Cf bodies tht came up for about 7 k total low hrs it not good also and I know how to service them but Weapon Bodies aka CF are / 6k dragons are great buys
Could be. Who knows! One thought i had is if it was bought as a backup body or something that never got used. Even the firmware when i got it was from 2017. So its just so many mysteries at once.
It’s subjective. I’d say the Red Raven is even cheaper than that... heck, even DSMC1 being cheaper than that. He scored a much better quality camera for a steal of a price.
The grain emulation your putting on the RED footage is way too much, I would tone it down, in my opinion. The backstage footage from the B-cam looks easier to the eye than the heavy contrasty grain filled thing
@@mortenjensen946 Grain is nice when its subtle, to add texture and dynamism to the image. But at this level its just destroying information. Also, that ammount of grain doesnt work well with TH-cam compression, it ends up looking chunky and mushy

Picked up a dsmc1 dragon 6k myself recently for $2,300 with only 300 hours and I thought that was a steel! but you take the cake with this!!!

To me grain is a thing of the past. Grain basically is a technical shortcoming of old camera tech. To me it does not look good. I want a clean image.
