@@matthewwindelspecht2559 I think its a minimum range of OHK. So all slug shots kill with one shot at 10m range but something like the romero can properly extend that range.
every other youtuber ive seen has said "slugs are trash" as they show a compilation of them sniping people at mosin range with a double barrel with sad music playing as they headshot people without killing them

Slugs aren’t going to be Meta, shotguns wont be meta. Rifles with high velocity ammo and *especially* Spitzer ammo will be, continuing the trend we have in game right now of long ammo being best. I just think me hitting a guy in the head with a 78s slug at 23 m with him surviving doesn’t make any sense. Slugs will probably be nerfed pretty soon anyway so you won’t be facing them a lot regardless, that’s all I’m gonna leave here.

@@Furymgs3 Well here's the deal, yes it would matter. The devs have said that they want the game to be pretty realistic in terms of gun performance. With that being said yes some stuff is kinda off for balance, but yes slugs should be slow and accuracy will decline at longer distances. But with this game having no bullet drop, you just lose damage essentially the farther you shoot. Bullets lose velocity over distance, in turn less penitration. The more mass you have on a bullet the more powder you need to push it faster. When your bullet takes up most of the shell(slug), you cant exactly have a lot of powder(velocity). I don't remember the reason for no bullet drop, but I feel like it was again for balance reasons. Maybe easier to modify it these circumstances?
Bear with me, I just want to say GG, and I've been struggling how to do it without sounding like I'm one of 'those' guys. As soon as I saw the Slug Ammo video pop up I thought, 'uh oh, am I in this?' And yup, there I am, getting slammed in the head by a Rival slug from 34m and then shooting back with my Winnie HV. That was a hell of a match, the one time I run into Psychoghost in and actual match, and not only that, but he's with Neenoh, and Jessica20 and Ifrit are in the team flanking us. Don't worry I'm not gloating, that Headhsot was in snapfire (I am really like the high velocity ammo though), and I think you got ROBBED, I went back in the vod and saw the headshot marker, but I don't think I took that much damage, I can't remember the exact series of events, but I can't remember if I healed first, i just remember Neenoh slamming me full in the chest with martini Explosive and having to take cover. All 4 teams spawned in that tiny corner, and we came out of it, one of the best fights I've had, a lot happening very quickly. I'm rambling a bit, but I was a bit stunned at first, finally meeting Psycho and get lucky with a Head shot at 34m, I mean I was aiming for your head but it wasn't some massive display of skill, I just happened to hit you after I already should have been dead. We should not have won that, but I am so pumped that we did, because that was a hell of a fight. All 4 teams and we were all that was left, and meeting our legends all makes for a memorable game. Incidentally met you again twice the next day too, pays to be on test server I guess :D Always GG's Psycho, thanks for being you, because you being you, is you being fantastic.

Romero (Regular buckshot + Slugs) / Lemat (Regular compacts on pistol mode + Slugs on shotty). Price is reasonable(ish?). Extra slugs for Remoro from Lemat (and vice versa). Can restore ammo from red boxes too, so you'll never find yourself entirely out of ammo and no need to bring an ammo box consumable - you'll always find a blue box even when not actively looking for it.
The rival with slugs is one of the most satisfying shotgun experiences I have ever had in a game. I have been gaming for over 20 years and shotguns have historically been my favorite weapon. Big ups.

You have to try dual LeMat slugs as a secondary with Quartermaster :D it's extremely consistent OHK's at short range, and lots of ammo + two shots is very forgiving.
Bruh. Finally. I'm so excited. My Romero Hatchet is going to be even more lethal. Now it has some actual range to it, making the axe all the more vital. This is going to be awesome.
I heard someone ask "when is the dolchening 2 happening?" and I was thinking, what if instead of a dolchening 2 you did the same thing but for a different weapon? Like an avtoning or a nitroing?
Actually, loved it. Headshot distance is not too long to replace normal rifles, and yet - a very decent upgrade for far too close-ranged default shotgun shells. This whole custom ammunition story still looks like one big fireworks show to me , but as you, Mike, said in the comments under the previous video, they are probably not going to be picked much, plus they might be changed after the test. So, given that, custom ammo may bring a looooot of variaty to your builds, playstyle, may even bring new meta, new tactics which we haven't seen before. Looking forward to how it will evolve. And thank you for the video, brilliant as usual :)

My friends and I fought the spider at Golden Acres and it got stuck in one of the silos, thankfully we could blast it; but I've seen this happen in Stillwater Bend as well with the spider getting stuck under the large stone raised area at the entrance under the big house/barn. Just curious if that's a known issue with the spider? Thanks for the awesome content, and I'm hella hyped for this update.
Just wanted to say that one downside of slugs (for some people) could be that you're almost required to use iron sights, due to unreliable hipfire accuracy (MORE RNG in this case). It was a bit of a surprise for me when I found out that most people use almost exclusively hipfire with shotguns. That would mean that they'd have to readjust their playstyle to use slugs. I, on the other hand, have always prefered iron sights, even on the shotguns, so I'm definitely looking forward to slugs.
Ammo combination Meta: Shoot someone with the fire bois (Either with Sparks or a pistol with fire), then leave one empty slot to use Normal rounds for the Sparks, you now have one shot capabilities for 8 seconds (pretty much anytime they still have burned health) up to 40 M, the more fire damage you do to someone the more time you have to one shot someone even if they were to Heal up all the way because of Burned health.
a friend is really disappointed by slugs. Because he wanted to use his favourite weapons IRL, shotguns, at longer range. But now I think that not the slugs are bad, but our Aim is.

I say, well, a Rival with slugs for 250 is half a Mosin, and in compunds it works in a similar way. You pay 250 more for range and penetration.
24:32 sorry going to be that guy but after 3 mouths of learning how to hunt I think I have some say. Psycho it's called a bead. Fun fact your not meant to look at it for aiming, it's there to let you know where the front of the barrel is. Unless your target is sitting still. Then it's ok to use it
Nice Slug review, that's what I was waiting for :) One question though, I'd like to have your opinion Mike about the fact that it makes no sense that you can open the Romeo to swap bullet type, but not with the Caldwell or Nitro while it's exactly the same mechanic. Sure it isn't all about realism I know, but balance-wise I don't think it would be bad as otherwise I can't really see myself using a Caldwell stuck with 1 ammo type while the cheaper Romeo would be far more versatile with say buck+slugs and higher damage/range. I do think that for the Nitro it would be a must as this weapon is straight garbage since the OHK nerf a while ago, and who's gonna spend even more for custom ammo which are far more limited than the already limited stock bullet AND lose all penetration, which is the whole point of the Nitro. It's like a straight downgrade to a gun that already sucks to a point I'd rather pick up a Romeo instead or use any shotgun with slugs over Nitro.
Tried all shotguns with slugs and Romero seems to be by far the most reliable. Everytime I hit an ennemy he die. Not the same with caldwell rivals and specter.
I will definitely be using Slug LeMat just for the awesomeness factor of actually being able to use the underbarrel shotty effectively. I don't use Uppercut anyway, so the pricepoint really doesn't matter to me - I wanna fan a guy down and then ala-ka-blam his buddy!
I think with the first shotgun you talked about at the end mixed ammo instead of just slugs is what the devs are thinking a little bit of both but if you want then you can do just one got your close-range one shot and a bit of mid-range so you are not absolutely f'ed out in the open

The derringer has 68m meter headshot and is almost shooting fireworks. I'd argue that a brick of lead should have a longer headshot range than 22m maybe have a high damage drop-off over distance but a really high headshot multiplier to make it so at 60m+ you can 1 shot headshot someone but otherwise, you deal less than 25dmg if not less. As they are right now, slugs are a fun novelty, but pointless in the end.

In this game where “testing” guns and ammunition is kinda difficult it would be super nice if the in game stats were accurate and extensive. I haven’t seen the UI for looking at ammo stats but I’m really hoping it can help us understand the new toys. I can only imagine there’s a lot on the team’s mind right now but JS.
One day there will be non-leathal bean bag shotgun ammo. May take some years, but hostage taking to negociate with trios has gotta come one day, realism wise!

Does using slugs currently change their closer range effectiveness compared to normal ammo? I am assuming you need to aim more precisely when you are in closer proximity?

My problem is that slugs in real life have huge penetration. Buckshot does not penetrate more than a slug. There are tests done showing a slug going through one car door and still exiting the other car door at range. This is a game and bullet drop doesn’t exist either. It’s just one of those things that break immersion to me even though I know it is about game balance.
I think for spectra compact with the slug are great Upgrade i play a lot on test and live the trick shooter (Carter) Build and i say the slug make this loadout so more competitive even more that high velocity for vandal dead eye IMO
Yes, with 1.5 there will be lots of concerina changes (e.g. you can now shoot through the gaps of the wire more reliably). I know the concertina wire breaking will change, but I don't know the details right now - pretty sure you now need something with slashing attacks to break it effectively (knife light attack, heavy knife, etc.)
Yes, the concertina is reworked in 1.5. Bigger weapons break it faster, small ones slower - fists ineffective completely. Also you can shoot through holes in the wire. Concertina is no longer an impenetrable wall.
Do different ammo types have different audio? Something thats been messing me up is not knowing my engage distances vs shotguns now due to not knowing if its buckshot or special ammo.
A good loadout with custom ammo for Romero 77, are Slugs and Pennys. Maybe you could make a video about it, and... “cough cough" show this comment. lol
don't agree with you mike on the headshot range. First death distance was 38m, so if twas about 35m where you shoot, and second death was at 34m. So you mean they need to increase it by 15m ... comon, from first clips you already one shooted people where usually rival will not do (these Avto squad there). 25 instead of 23, its ok!

I am really curious on flechette, in battlefield is my favourite ammo type cause the good balance on suppression and range. Maybe it's a match even here.
This feeling when 28 gram slug travelling at 400 m/s have less headshot range than 25 gram bolt travelling at 100 m/s (I know most ppl prefer balance over something like this but still)
The new ammo shouldn't cost that much if it's supposed to be an alternative and not an upgrade... or the normal bullets should cost some money too in my opinion
For 1 barrel shotguns at least I see no reason to use slugs due to there being a cheaper and arguably better option: Crossbow and hand crossbow. Only upside is that unless you use shotbolt you can't wallbang with the bows

Also slugs are supposed to be slower, larger mass. And less range due to larger mass. I think it seems fine.

a friend is really disappointed by slugs. Because he wanted to use his favourite weapons IRL, shotguns, at longer range. But now I think that not the slugs are bad, but our Aim is.

I say, well, a Rival with slugs for 250 is half a Mosin, and in compunds it works in a similar way. You pay 250 more for range and penetration.

Nice Slug review, that's what I was waiting for :) One question though, I'd like to have your opinion Mike about the fact that it makes no sense that you can open the Romeo to swap bullet type, but not with the Caldwell or Nitro while it's exactly the same mechanic. Sure it isn't all about realism I know, but balance-wise I don't think it would be bad as otherwise I can't really see myself using a Caldwell stuck with 1 ammo type while the cheaper Romeo would be far more versatile with say buck+slugs and higher damage/range.
I do think that for the Nitro it would be a must as this weapon is straight garbage since the OHK nerf a while ago, and who's gonna spend even more for custom ammo which are far more limited than the already limited stock bullet AND lose all penetration, which is the whole point of the Nitro. It's like a straight downgrade to a gun that already sucks to a point I'd rather pick up a Romeo instead or use any shotgun with slugs over Nitro.
It has something to do with game balance you know :)
Tried all shotguns with slugs and Romero seems to be by far the most reliable. Everytime I hit an ennemy he die. Not the same with caldwell rivals and specter.
I will definitely be using Slug LeMat just for the awesomeness factor of actually being able to use the underbarrel shotty effectively. I don't use Uppercut anyway, so the pricepoint really doesn't matter to me - I wanna fan a guy down and then ala-ka-blam his buddy!

I think with the first shotgun you talked about at the end mixed ammo instead of just slugs is what the devs are thinking a little bit of both but if you want then you can do just one got your close-range one shot and a bit of mid-range so you are not absolutely f'ed out in the open

The derringer has 68m meter headshot and is almost shooting fireworks. I'd argue that a brick of lead should have a longer headshot range than 22m maybe have a high damage drop-off over distance but a really high headshot multiplier to make it so at 60m+ you can 1 shot headshot someone but otherwise, you deal less than 25dmg if not less. As they are right now, slugs are a fun novelty, but pointless in the end.
You can't give them that headshot range. I agree regarding the realism thing. But game balance > realism imo.

In this game where “testing” guns and ammunition is kinda difficult it would be super nice if the in game stats were accurate and extensive. I haven’t seen the UI for looking at ammo stats but I’m really hoping it can help us understand the new toys. I can only imagine there’s a lot on the team’s mind right now but JS.

Fyi mike, that "ball" is called a bead. Bead sights were quite common and still are to some extent today on cheaper guns as far as i can tell

I think that special ammo types shouldn't cost more money. There is always a huge tradeoff to use them anyway. Why the cost?

My problem is that slugs in real life have huge penetration. Buckshot does not penetrate more than a slug. There are tests done showing a slug going through one car door and still exiting the other car door at range. This is a game and bullet drop doesn’t exist either. It’s just one of those things that break immersion to me even though I know it is about game balance.
Sometimes game balance is more important than realism
I think for spectra compact with the slug are great Upgrade i play a lot on test and live the trick shooter (Carter) Build and i say the slug make this loadout so more competitive even more that high velocity for vandal dead eye IMO

Yes, with 1.5 there will be lots of concerina changes (e.g. you can now shoot through the gaps of the wire more reliably). I know the concertina wire breaking will change, but I don't know the details right now - pretty sure you now need something with slashing attacks to break it effectively (knife light attack, heavy knife, etc.)
Yes, the concertina is reworked in 1.5. Bigger weapons break it faster, small ones slower - fists ineffective completely. Also you can shoot through holes in the wire. Concertina is no longer an impenetrable wall.

Do different ammo types have different audio? Something thats been messing me up is not knowing my engage distances vs shotguns now due to not knowing if its buckshot or special ammo.
Some guns do have different sounds when you are close enough / get shot with.
Slugs are just what this game needs. I feel the buckshot acts like birdshot some days

don't agree with you mike on the headshot range. First death distance was 38m, so if twas about 35m where you shoot, and second death was at 34m. So you mean they need to increase it by 15m ... comon, from first clips you already one shooted people where usually rival will not do (these Avto squad there). 25 instead of 23, its ok!

For 1 barrel shotguns at least I see no reason to use slugs due to there being a cheaper and arguably better option: Crossbow and hand crossbow. Only upside is that unless you use shotbolt you can't wallbang with the bows
